Products of Idempotents in Banach Algebras of Operators

Let $X$ be a Banach space and $\mathcal A$ be the Banach algebra $B(X)$ of bounded (i.e. continuous) linear transformations (to be called operators) on $X$ to itself. Let $\mathcal E$ be the set of idempotents in $\mathcal A$ and $\mathcal S$ be the semigroup generated by $\mathcal E$ under composition as multiplication. If $T\in \mathcal S$ with $0\ne T\ne I_{X}$ then $T$ has a local block representation of the form $\begin{pmatrix} T_1 & T_2 0 & 0 \end{pmatrix}$ on $X=Y\oplus Z$, a topological sum of non-zero closed subspaces $Y$ and $Z$ of $X$, and any $A\in \mathcal A$ has the form $\begin{pmatrix} A_1 & A_2 A_3 & A_4 \end{pmatrix}$ with $T_1,A_1 \in \mathcal B(Y)$, $T_2,A_2\in B(Z,Y), A_3\in B(Y,Z)$, and $A_4 \in \mathcal B(Z)$. The purpose of this paper is to study conditions for $T$ to be in $\mathcal{S}$.

Useful variants and perturbations of completely entangled subspaces and spans of unextendible product bases

Finite dimensional entanglement for pure states has been used extensively in quantum information theory. Depending on the tensor product structure, even set of separable states can show non-intuitive characters. Two situations are well studied in the literature, namely the unextendible product basis by Bennett et al. [Phys. Rev. Lett. 82, 5385, (1999)], and completely entangled subspaces explicitly given by Parthasarathy in [Proc. Indian Acad. Sci. Math. Sci. 114, 4 (2004)]. More recently, Boyer, Liss, and Mor [Phys. Rev. A 95, 032308 (2017)]; Boyer and Mor [Preprints 2023080529, (2023)]; and Liss, Mor, and Winter [Lett. Math. Phys, 114, 86 (2024)] have studied spaces which have only finitely many pure product states. We carry this further and consider the problem of perturbing different spaces, such as the orthogonal complement of an unextendible product basis and also Parthasarathy's completely entangled spaces, by taking linear spans with specified product vectors. To this end, we develop methods and theory of variations and perturbations of the linear spans of certain unextendible product bases, their orthogonal complements, and also Parthasarathy's completely entangled sub-spaces. Finally, we give examples of perturbations with infinitely many pure product states.

Polynomial representation for multipartite entanglement of resonating valence bond ladders

A resonating valence bond (RVB) state of a lattice of quantum systems is a potential resource for quantum computing and communicating devices. It is a superposition of singlet, i.e., dimer, coverings - often restricted to nearest-neighbour ones - of the lattice. We develop a polynomial representation of multipartite quantum states to prove that RVB states on ladder lattices possess genuine multipartite entanglement. The multipartite entanglement of doped RVB states and RVB states that are superposed with varying weights for singlet coverings of ladder lattices can both be detected by using this technique.

Optimal quantum tomography with constrained elementary measurements arising from unitary bases

The purpose of this paper is to introduce techniques of obtaining optimal ways to determine a d-level quantum state or distinguish such states. It entails designing constrained elementary measurements extracted from maximal abelian subsets of a unitary basis U for the operator algebra B(H) of a Hilbert space H of finite dimension d > 3 or, after choosing an orthonormal basis for H, for the *-algebra Md of complex matrices of order d > 3. Illustrations are given for the techniques. It is shown that the Schwinger basis U of unitary operators can give for d, a product of primes p and a, the ideal number d^2 of rank one projectors that have a few quantum mechanical overlaps (or, for that matter, a few angles between the corresponding unit vectors). We also give a combination of the tensor product and constrained elementary measurement techniques to deal with all d. A comparison is drawn for different forms of unitary bases for the Hilbert space and also for different Hilbert space factors of the tensor product. In the process we also study the equivalence relation on unitary bases defined by R. F. Werner [J. Phys. A: Math. Gen. 34 (2001) 7081], connect it to local operations on maximally entangled vectors bases, find an invariant for equivalence classes in terms of certain commuting systems, called fan representations, and, relate it to mutually unbiased bases and Hadamard matrices. Illustrations are given in the context of latin squares and projective representations as well.

Ramsey theory for hypergroups

In this paper, Ramsey theory for discrete hypergroups is introduced with emphasis on polynomial hypergroups, discrete orbit hypergroups and hypergroup deformations of semigroups. In this context, new notions of Ramsey principle for hypergroups and $α$-Ramsey hypergroup, $0 \leq α<1,$ are defined and studied.

Hypergroup Deformations of Semigroups

We view the well-known example of the dual of a countable compact hypergroup, motivated by the orbit space of p-adic integers by Dunkl and Ramirez (1975), as hypergroup deformation of the max semigroup structure on the linearly ordered set $\mathbb{Z}_+$ of the non-negative integers along the diagonal. This works as motivation for us to study hypergroups or semi convolution spaces arising from "max" semigroups or general commutative semigroups via hypergroup deformation on idempotents.

Linear Hahn Banach Type Extension Operators in Banach Algebras of Operators

The notion of linear Hahn-Banach extension operator was first studied in detail by Heinrich and Mankiewicz (1982). Previously, J. Lindenstrauss (1966) studied similar versions of this notion in the context of non separable reflexive Banach spaces. Subsequently, Sims and Yost (1989) proved the existence of linear Hahn-Banach extension operators via interspersing subspaces in a purely Banach space theoretic set up. In this paper, we study similar questions in the context of Banach modules and module homomorphisms, in particular, Banach algebras of operators on Banach spaces. Based on Dales, Kania, Kochanek, Kozmider and Laustsen(2013), and also Kania and Laustsen (2017), we give complete answers for reflexive Banach spaces and the non-reflexive space constructed by Kania and Laustsen from the celebrated Argyros-Haydon's space with few operators.

Role of Partial Transpose and Generalized Choi maps in Quantum Dynamical Semigroups involving Separable and Entangled States

Power symmetric matrices defned and studied by R. Sinkhorn (1981) and their generalization by R.B. Bapat, S.K. Jain and K. Manjunatha Prasad (1999) have been utilized to give positive block matrices with trace one possessing positive partial transpose, the so-called PPT states. Another method to construct such PPT states is given, it uses the form of a matrix unitarily equivalent to its transpose obtained by S.R. Garcia and J.E. Tener (2012). Evolvement or suppression of separability or entanglement of various levels for a quantum dynamical semigroup of completely positive maps has been studied using Choi-Jamiolkowsky matrix of such maps and the famous Horodecki's criteria (1996). A Trichotomy Theorem has been proved, and examples have been given that depend mainly on generalized Choi maps and clearly distinguish the levels of entanglement breaking.

Entanglement properties of positive operators with ranges in completely entangled subspaces

We prove that the projection on a completely entangled subspace S of maximum dimension in a multipartite quantum system obtained by Parthasarathy is not positive under partial transpose. We next show that several positive operators with range in S also have the same property. In this process we construct an orthonormal basis of S and provide a linking theorem to link the constructions of completely entangled subspaces due to Parthasarthy, Bhat and Johnston.

Involutions and Trivolutions in Algebras Related to Second Duals of Group Algebras

We define a trivolution on a complex algebra $A$ as a non-zero conjugate-linear, anti-homomorphism $τ$ on $A$, which is a generalized inverse of itself, that is, $τ^3=τ$. We give several characterizations of trivolutions and show with examples that they appear naturally on many Banach algebras, particularly those arising from group algebras. We give several results on the existence or non-existence of involutions on the dual of a topologically introverted space. We investigate conditions under which the dual of a topologically introverted space admits trivolutions.
