Divisibility of certain $\ell$-regular partitions by $2$

For a positive integer $\ell$, let $b_{\ell}(n)$ denote the number of $\ell$-regular partitions of a nonnegative integer $n$. Motivated by some recent conjectures of Keith and Zanello, we establish infinite families of congruences modulo $2$ for $b_3(n)$ and $b_{21}(n)$. We prove a specific case of a conjecture of Keith and Zanello on self-similarities of $b_3(n)$ modulo $2$. We next prove that the series $\sum_{n=0}^{\infty}b_9(2n+1)q^n$ is lacunary modulo arbitrary powers of $2$. We also prove that the series $\sum_{n=0}^{\infty}b_9(4n)q^n$ is lacunary modulo $2$.

Proof of some conjectural congruences of da Silva and Sellers

Let $p_{\{3, 3\}}(n)$ denote the number of $3$-regular partitions in three colours. In a very recent paper, da Silva and Sellers studied certain arithmetic properties of $p_{\{3, 3\}}(n)$. They further conjectured four Ramanujan-like congruences modulo $5$ satisfied by $p_{\{3, 3\}}(n)$. In this article, we confirm the conjectural congruences of da Silva and Sellers using the theory of modular forms.

Eta-quotients and divisibility of certain partition functions by powers of primes

Andrews' $(k, i)$-singular overpartition function $\overline{C}_{k, i}(n)$ counts the number of overpartitions of $n$ in which no part is divisible by $k$ and only parts $\equiv \pm i\pmod{k}$ may be overlined. In recent times, divisibility of $\overline{C}_{3\ell, \ell}(n)$, $\overline{C}_{4\ell, \ell}(n)$ and $\overline{C}_{6\ell, \ell}(n)$ by $2$ and $3$ are studied for certain values of $\ell$. In this article, we study divisibility of $\overline{C}_{3\ell, \ell}(n)$, $\overline{C}_{4\ell, \ell}(n)$ and $\overline{C}_{6\ell, \ell}(n)$ by primes $p\geq 5$. For all positive integer $\ell$ and prime divisors $p\geq 5$ of $\ell$, we prove that $\overline{C}_{3\ell, \ell}(n)$, $\overline{C}_{4\ell, \ell}(n)$ and $\overline{C}_{6\ell, \ell}(n)$ are almost always divisible by arbitrary powers of $p$. For $s\in \{3, 4, 6\}$, we next show that the set of those $n$ for which $\overline{C}_{s\cdot\ell, \ell}(n) \not\equiv 0\pmod{p_i^k}$ is infinite, where $k$ is a positive integer satisfying $p_i^{k-1}\geq \ell$. We further improve a result of Gordon and Ono on divisibility of $\ell$-regular partitions by powers of certain primes. We also improve a result of Ray and Chakraborty on divisibility of $\ell$-regular overpartitions by powers of certain primes.

On Mex-related partition functions of Andrews and Newman

The minimal excludant, or "mex" function, on a set $S$ of positive integers is the least positive integer not in $S$. In a recent paper, Andrews and Newman extended the mex-function to integer partitions and found numerous surprising partition identities connected with these functions. Very recently, da Silva and Sellers present parity considerations of one of the families of functions Andrews and Newman studied, namely $p_{t,t}(n)$, and provide complete parity characterizations of $p_{1,1}(n)$ and $p_{3,3}(n)$. In this article, we study the parity of $p_{t,t}(n)$ when $t=2^α, 3\cdot 2^α$ for all $α\geq 1$. We prove that $p_{2^α,2^α}(n)$ and $p_{3\cdot2^α, 3\cdot2^α}(n)$ are almost always even for all $α\geq 1$. Using a result of Ono and Taguchi on nilpotency of Hecke operators, we also find infinite families of congruences modulo $2$ satisfied by $p_{2^α,2^α}(n)$ and $p_{3\cdot2^α, 3\cdot2^α}(n)$ for all $α\geq 1$.

Mex-related partitions and relations to ordinary partition and singular overpartitions

In a recent paper, Andrews and Newman introduced certain families of partition functions using the minimal excludant or "mex" function. In this article, we study two of the families of functions Andrews and Newman introduced, namely $p_{t,t}(n)$ and $p_{2t,t}(n)$. We establish identities connecting the ordinary partition function $p(n)$ to $p_{t,t}(n)$ and $p_{2t,t}(n)$ for all $t\geq 1$. Using these identities, we prove that the Ramanujan's famous congruences for $p(n)$ are also satisfied by $p_{t,t}(n)$ and $p_{2t,t}(n)$ for infinitely many values of $t$. Very recently, da Silva and Sellers provide complete parity characterizations of $p_{1,1}(n)$ and $p_{3,3}(n)$. We prove that $p_{t,t}(n)\equiv \overline{C}_{4t,t}(n) \pmod{2}$ for all $n\geq 0$ and $t\geq 1$, where $\overline{C}_{4t,t}(n)$ is the Andrews' singular overpartition function. Using this congruence, the parity characterization of $p_{1,1}(n)$ given by da Silva and Sellers follows from that of $\overline{C}_{4,1}(n)$. We also give elementary proofs of certain congruences already proved by da Silva and Sellers.

Parallelizing Windowed Stream Joins in a Shared-Nothing Cluster

The availability of large number of processing nodes in a parallel and distributed computing environment enables sophisticated real time processing over high speed data streams, as required by many emerging applications. Sliding window stream joins are among the most important operators in a stream processing system. In this paper, we consider the issue of parallelizing a sliding window stream join operator over a shared nothing cluster. We propose a framework, based on fixed or predefined communication pattern, to distribute the join processing loads over the shared-nothing cluster. We consider various overheads while scaling over a large number of nodes, and propose solution methodologies to cope with the issues. We implement the algorithm over a cluster using a message passing system, and present the experimental results showing the effectiveness of the join processing algorithm.

Development of mechanism for enhancing data security in quantum cryptography

Nowadays security in communication is increasingly important to the network communication because many categories of data are required restriction on authorization of access, modify, delete and insert. Quantum cryptography is one of the solutions that use property of polarization to ensure that transmitted data is not tampered. The research paper provides the mechanism that enhances the data security in quantum cryptography during exchange of information. In first phase detailed explanation of Quantum key distribution's BB84 protocol is given. BB84 protocol is used as the basis for the mechanism. In next phase the proposed mechanism is explained. The proposed mechanism combines BB84 protocol at two levels, from sender to receiver and then from receiver to sender. Moreover, a logic circuit is used to combine the bits hence to reduce the probability of eavesdropping. The key obtained can be used to exchange the information securely further it can help in encryption and decryption of crucial data. Double level BB84 mechanism will help in information reconciliation as well as privacy amplification. In future the proposed mechanism will be very beneficial where unconditional security is required during key and other secret information exchange
