AutoFyn Technical Report: Non-Parametric Expert Iteration for Long-Horizon Agents

We introduce AutoFyn, an agent harness inspired by the Expert Iteration algorithm, adapting a frozen model across many rounds by updating persistent state from verified reward signals rather than model weights. Each round begins from a fresh model session, and durable information is reintroduced only through explicit interfaces such as persistent memory files, reports, and repository state. Within a round, an orchestrator explores, plans and builds many alternative approaches with specialized agents, while a task-grounded verifier verifies the work and supplies an objective reward for measuring progress. This reward is distilled back into the persistent state, which updates the effective policy for the next round. In this technical report, we formalize this loop and describe its persistent state and verification interfaces. We then demonstrate its use in three domains, namely olympiad mathematics, data science, and cybersecurity. On the six fresh problems of the 2026 International Mathematical Olympiad, every model with room to improve scores higher under AutoFyn than in its provider's own coding agent. AutoFyn also built the top-ranked agent on the Spider 2.0 dbt benchmark, and has produced $16$ maintainer-confirmed vulnerability advisories in Next.js, MetaMask, pnpm, Warp, LiteLLM, Langflow, and Open WebUI.

Improved lower bounds for Queen's Domination via an exactly-solvable relaxation

The Queen's Domination problem, studied for over 160 years, poses the following question: What is the least number of queens that can be arranged on a $m \times n$ chessboard so that they either attack or occupy every cell? We propose a novel relaxation of the Queen's Domination problem and show that it is exactly solvable on both square and rectangular chessboards. As a consequence, we improve on the best known lower bound for rectangular chessboards in $\approx 12.5\%$ of the non-trivial cases. As another consequence, we simplify and generalize the proofs for the best known lower-bounds for Queen's Domination of square $n \times n$ chessboards for $n \equiv \{0,1,2\} \mod 4$ using an elegant idea based on a convex hull. Finally, we show some results and make some conjectures towards the goal of simplifying the long complicated proof for the best known lower-bound for square boards when $n \equiv 3 \mod 4$ (and $n > 11$). These simple-to-state conjectures may also be of independent interest.

A simple online competitive adaptation of Lempel-Ziv compression with efficient random access support

We present a simple adaptation of the Lempel Ziv 78' (LZ78) compression scheme ({\em IEEE Transactions on Information Theory, 1978}) that supports efficient random access to the input string. Namely, given query access to the compressed string, it is possible to efficiently recover any symbol of the input string. The compression algorithm is given as input a parameter $\eps >0$, and with very high probability increases the length of the compressed string by at most a factor of $(1+\eps)$. The access time is $O(\log n + 1/\eps^2)$ in expectation, and $O(\log n/\eps^2)$ with high probability. The scheme relies on sparse transitive-closure spanners. Any (consecutive) substring of the input string can be retrieved at an additional additive cost in the running time of the length of the substring. We also formally establish the necessity of modifying LZ78 so as to allow efficient random access. Specifically, we construct a family of strings for which $\Omega(n/\log n)$ queries to the LZ78-compressed string are required in order to recover a single symbol in the input string. The main benefit of the proposed scheme is that it preserves the online nature and simplicity of LZ78, and that for {\em every} input string, the length of the compressed string is only a small factor larger than that obtained by running LZ78.
