D0-brane description of the charged black hole

The charged black hole is considered from the viewpoint of D0-brane in the Matrix theory. It can be obtained from the Kaluza-Klein mechanism by boosting the Schwarzschild black hole in a circle, which is the compactified one dimensional space. Especially, how the extremal limit is realized by the Boltzmann gas of D0-brane, has been shown. In the course of our discussion, the Virial theorem for the statistical average plays an important role.

Baryon asymmetry and neutron EDM

Baryon asymmetry of the universe can be generated by new sources of $CP$ violation intrinsic in supersymmetric extension of the standard model. This scenario predicts the neutron electric dipole moment to be not much smaller than its present experimental upper bound.

Current constraints on squark production scenarios for the excess of high $Q^2$ events at HERA

We examine the stop production scenario for the anomalous excess of high $Q^2$ events observed at HERA, by taking into account the constraints coming from the leptoquark search at Tevatron and the atomic parity violation experiments. This scenario is shown to survive persistently even under the severe constraints from the other experiments. In the analysis, the branching ratios $B_{\stp_j}$ of the decay modes $\stp_j\to ed$ $(j=1,2)$ are found to be useful parameters, representing a number of unknown parameters in the SUSY models. By expressing the stop contribution to the cross section of deep inelastic $ep$ scattering $σ(ep\to eX)$ in terms of $B_{\stp_1}$ and $B_{\stp_2}$, the allowed region is successfully identified in the parameter space of $B_{\stp_1}$ and $B_{\stp_2}$.

CP-odd Anomalous W-boson Couplings from Supersymmety

The supersymmetric standard model contains a new CP-violating phase in the mass matrices for charginos and neutralinos, which could induce CP-odd anomalous couplings for the WWZ and WWγvertices at the one-loop level. We study these couplings, paying attention to the model-parameter and q^2 dependencies. It is shown that the CP-odd form factors could have values of order 10^{-3}-10^{-4}, which are much larger than those predicted by the standard model. We also discuss the possibility of examining these form factors in experiments.

Intermediate psuedoscalar resonance contributions to B->X_s photon photon

We calculate the decay rate B-> X_s photon photon via intermediate psuedoscalar charmonium eta_c. This process is thought to be the main long-distance contribution which dominates the corresponding inclusive rare B decay. We point out that once the momentum dependence of eta_c-> photon photon conversion strength, due to off-shellness of the intermediate eta_c, is taken into account, the rate of this decay mode is reduced. The change in differential decay rate in region of spectrum immediately below m_{eta_c} is more significant. On the other hand, we point out that the unexpectedly large branching ratio for B-> X_s eta' which is recently observed by CLEO could indicate a potentially larger long-distance contribution via eta' resonance.

Study of CP Violation: Electroweak Baryogenesis and Anomalous W-Boson Couplings

The contributions from the Ochanomizu CP Study Group to the KEK meetings on "CP violation and its origin" (1993-1997) are summarized on electroweak baryogenesis and anomalous W-boson couplings. We survey planned new experiments which could examine some aspects studied in our contributions. We also discuss several issues on baryogenesis. Ten problems are presented for further studies.

Electric Dipole Moments of Neutron and Electron in Supersymmetric Model

The electric dipole moments (EDMs) of the neutron and the electron are reviewed within the framework of the supersymmetric standard model (SSM) based on grand unified theories coupled to N=1 supergravity. Taking into account one-loop and two-loop contributions to the EDMs, we explore SSM parameter space consistent with experiments and discuss predicted values for the EDMs. Implications of baryon asymmetry of our universe for the EDMs are also discussed.

Implications of baryon asymmetry for the electric dipole moment of the neutron

We study baryogenesis at the electroweak phase transition of the universe within the framework of the supersymmetric standard model (SSM) based on N=1 supergravity. This model contains a new source of CP violation in the mass-squared matrices for squarks, which could enable $t$ squarks to mediate the charge transport mechanism for generating baryon asymmetry. The same CP-violating source also induces the electric dipole moment (EDM) of the neutron at the one-loop level. If the new CP-violating phase is not suppressed, it is shown, the $t$-squark transport can lead to baryon asymmetry consistent with its observed value within reasonable ranges of SSM parameters. For these parameter ranges the magnitude of the neutron EDM is predicted to be not much smaller than its present experimental upper bound.

Electroweak baryogenesis from chargino transport in the supersymmetric model

We study the baryon asymmetry of the universe in the supersymmetric standard model (SSM). At the electroweak phase transition, the fermionic partners of the charged SU(2) gauge bosons and Higgs bosons are reflected from or transmitted to the bubble wallof the broken phase. Owing to a physical complex phase in their mass matrix, these reflections and transmissions have asymmetries between CP conjugate processes. Equilibrium conditions in the symmetric phaseare then shifted to favor a non-vanishing value for the baryon number density, which is realized through electroweak anomaly. We show that the resultant ratio of baryon number to entropy is consistent with its present observed value within reasonable ranges of SSM parameters, provided that the CP-violating phase intrinsic in the SSM is not much suppressed. The compatibility with the constraints on the parameters from the electric dipole moment of the neutron is also discussed.

Old-fashioned dualities revisited

In the lectures given at '96 Kashikojima Summer Institute, Amagi-Highland Seminars, and Yukawa Institute Workshop, the old-fashioned dualities and the theory of extended objects are reviewed, starting from 't Hooft-Mandelstam duality and following the author's old works. Application of the old-fashioned dualities to new issues are also given on the D-branes, on the phase transition of B-F theory to Einstein gravity and on the swimming of microorganisms.

Baryogenesis with vector-like quark model in charge transport mechanism

The electroweak baryogenesis is studied in the charge transport mechanism with the vector-like quark model. Introducing an extra vector-like up-type quark and a singlet Higgs scalar with the mass of the order of a few hundred GeV, the baryon number generation from the bubble wall is estimated. We show that this scenario is consistent with the measurement of the present baryon to entropy ratio of our universe, if the parameters are in the right region.

Stringy and Membranic Theory of Swimming of Micro-organisms

When the swimming of micro-organisms is viewed from the string and membrane theories coupled to the velocity field of the fluid, a number of interesting results are derived; 1) importance of the area (or volume) preserving algebra, 2) usefulness of the $N$-point Reggeon (membranic) amplitudes, and of the gas to liquid transition in case of the red tide issues, 3) close relation between the red tide issue and the generation of Einstein gravity, and 4) possible understanding of the three different swimming ways of micro-organisms from the singularity structure of the shape space.

Collective Motion of Micro-organisms from Field Theoretical Viewpoint

We analyze the collective motion of micro-organisms in the fluid and consider the problem of the red tide. The red tide is produced by the condensation of the micro-organisms, which might be a similar phenomenon to the condensation of the strings. We propose a model of the generation of the red tide. By considering the interaction between the micro- organisms mediated by the velocity fields in the fluid, we derive the Van der Waals type equation of state, where the generation of the red tide can be regarded as a phase transition from the gas of micro-organisms to the liquid. (The number density of micro-organisms which generates the red tide is order estimated.)

Baryon Asymmetry: Evidence of CP Violation and Phase Transition in the Early Universe ?

A talk was given on the baryon asymmetry of our universe within the electroweak energy scale which was the theme for the 23rd INS Symposium. It was intended for non-experts by a non-expert speaker. A model is analized explicitly in which the lepton number produced from the bubble walls is converted afterwards to the baryon asymmetry.Phase transition dynamics is simulated, including the temporal develpment and the fusion effect of the nucleated bubbles.

Quantum Mechanics for the Swimming of Micro-Organism in Two Dimensions

In two dimensional fluid, there are only two classes of swimming ways of micro-organisms, {\it i.e.}, ciliated and flagellated motions. Towards understanding of this fact, we analyze the swimming problem by using $w_{1+\infty}$ and/or $W_{1+\infty}$ algebras. In the study of the relationship between these two algebras, there appear the wave functions expressing the shape of micro-organisms. In order to construct the well-defined quantum mechanics based on $W_{1+\infty}$ algebra and the wave functions, essentially only two different kinds of the definitions are allowed on the hermitian conjugate and the inner products of the wave functions. These two definitions are related with the shapes of ciliates and flagellates. The formulation proposed in this paper using $W_{1+\infty}$ algebra and the wave functions is the quantum mechanics of the fluid dynamics where the stream function plays the role of the Hamiltonian. We also consider the area-preserving algebras which arise in the swimming problem of micro-organisms in the two dimensional fluid. These algebras are larger than the usual $w_{1+\infty}$ and $W_{1+\infty}$ algebras. We give a free field representation of this extended $W_{1+\infty}$ algebra.
