Level dynamics and the ten-fold way

We investigate the parameter dynamics of eigenvalues of Hamiltonians ('level dynamics') defined on symmetric spaces relevant for condensed matter and particle physics. In particular we: 1) identify appropriate reduced manifold on which the motion takes place, 2) identify the correct Poisson structure ensuring the Hamiltonian character of the reduced dynamics, 3) determine the canonical measure on the reduced space, 4) calculate the resulting eigenvalue density.

Injectivity of the Double Fibration Transform for Cycle Spaces of Flag Domains

The basic setup consists of a complex flag manifold $Z=G/Q$ where $G$ is a complex semisimple Lie group and $Q$ is a parabolic subgroup, an open orbit $D = G_0(z) \subset Z$ where $G_0$ is a real form of $G$, and a $G_0$--homogeneous holomorphic vector bundle $\mathbb E \to D$. The topic here is the double fibration transform ${\cal P}: H^q(D;{\cal O}(\mathbb E)) \to H^0({\cal M}_D;{\cal O}(\mathbb E'))$ where $q$ is given by the geometry of $D$, ${\cal M}_D$ is the cycle space of $D$, and $\mathbb E' \to {\cal M}_D$ is a certain naturally derived holomorphic vector bundle. Schubert intersection theory is used to show that ${\cal P}$ is injective whenever $\mathbb E$ is sufficiently negative.

Group Actions on S^6 and complex structures on P_3

It is proved that if S^6 possesses an integrable complex structure, then there exists a 1-dimensional family of pairwise different exotic complex structures on P_3(C). This follows immediately from the main result of the paper: S^6 is not the underlying differentiable manifold of an almost homogeneous complex manifold X. Via elementary Lie theoretic techniques this is reduced to ruling out the possibility of a C^*-action on a certain non-normal surface E in X. A contradiction is reached by analyzing combinatorial aspects of the non-normal locus N of E and its preimage in the normalization of E.
