A pure Dirac's method for Yang-Mills expressed as a constrained BF-like theory

A pure Dirac's method of Yang-Mills expressed as a constrained BF-like theory is performed. In this paper we study an action principle composed by the coupling of two topological BF-like theories, which at the Lagrangian level reproduces Yang-Mills equations. By a pure Dirac's method we mean that we consider all the variables that occur in the Lagrangian density as dynamical variables and not only those ones that involve temporal derivatives. The analysis in the complete phase space enable us to calculate the extended Hamiltonian, the extended action, the constraint algebra, the gauge transformations and then we carry out the counting of degrees of freedom. We show that the constrained BF-like theory correspond at classical level to Yang-Mills theory. From the results obtained, we discuss briefly the quantization of the theory. In addition we compare our results with alternatives models that have been reported in the literature

Hamiltonian Dynamics for an alternative action describing Maxwell's equations

We develop a complete Dirac's canonical analysis for an alternative action that yields Maxwell's four-dimensional equations of motion. We study in detail the full symmetries of the action by following all steps of Dirac's method in order to obtain a detailed description of symmetries. Our results indicate that such an action does not have the same symmetries than Maxwell theory, namely, the model is not a gauge theory and the number of physical degrees of freedom are different.

Hamiltonian analysis for topological and Yang-Mills theories expressed as a constrained BF-like theory

The Hamiltonian analysis for the Euler and Second-Chern classes is performed. We show that, in spite of the fact that the Second-Chern and Euler invariants give rise to the same equations of motion, their corresponding symplectic structures on the phase space are different, therefore, one can expect different quantum formulations. In addition, the symmetries of actions written as a BF-like theory that lead to Yang-Mills equations of motion are studied. A close relationship with the results obtained in previous works for the Second-Chern and Euler classes is found.

Hamiltonian dynamics for Einstein's action in G$\rightarrow$0 limit

The Hamiltonian analysis for the Einstein's action in $ G\to 0 $ limit is performed. Considering the original configuration space without involve the usual $ADM$ variables we show that the version $ Gto 0 $ for Einstein's action is devoid of physical degrees of freedom. In addition, we will identify the relevant symmetries of the theory such as the extended action, the extended Hamiltonian, the gauge transformations and the algebra of the constraints. As complement part of this work, we develop the covariant canonical formalism where will be constructed a closed and gauge invariant symplectic form. In particular, using the geometric form we will obtain by means of other way the same symmetries that we found using the Hamiltonian analysis.

A pure Dirac's canonical analysis for four-dimensional BF theories

We perform Dirac's canonical analysis for a four-dimensional $BF$ and for a generalized four-dimensional $BF$ theory depending on a connection valued in the Lie algebra of SO(3,1). This analysis is developed by considering the corresponding complete set of variables that define these theories as dynamical, and we find out the relevant symmetries, the constraints, the extended Hamiltonian, the extended action, gauge transformations and the counting of physical degrees of freedom. The results obtained are compared with other approaches found in the literature.

Hamiltonian study for Chern-Simons and Pontryagin theories

The Hamiltonian analysis for the Chern-Simons theory and Pontryagin invariant, which depends of a connection valued in the Lie algebra of SO(3,1), is performed. By applying a pure Dirac's method we find for both theories the extended Hamiltonian, the extended action, the constraint algebra, the gauge transformations and we carry out the counting of degrees of freedom. From the results obtained in the present analysis, we will conclude that the theories under study have a closed relation among its constraints and defines a topological field theory. In addition, we extends the configuration space for the Pontryagin theory and we develop the Hamiltonian analysis for this modified version, finding a best description of the results previously obtained.

Poincaré charges for chiral membranes

Using basic ideas of simplectic geometry, we find the covariant canonically conjugate variables, the commutation relations and the Poincaré charges for chiral superconducting membranes (with null currents), as well as we find the stress tensor for the theory under study.

Simplectic geometry and the canonical variables for Dirac-Nambu-Goto and Gauss-Bonnet system in string theory

Using a strongly covariant formalism given by Carter for the deformations dynamics of p-branes in a curved background and a covariant and gauge invariant geometric structure constructed on the corresponding Witten's phase space, we identify the canonical variables for Dirac-Nambu-Goto [DNG] and Gauss-Bonnet [GB] system in string theory. Future extensions of the present results are outlined.

Covariant canonical formalism for Dirac-Nambu-Goto bosonic p-branes and the Gauss-Bonnet topological term in string theory

Using a covariant and gauge invariant geometric structure constructed on the Witten covariant phase space for Dirac-Nambu-Goto bosonic p-branes propagating in a curved background, we find the canonically conjugate variables, and the relevant commutation relations are considered, as well as, we find the canonical variables for the Gauss-Bonnet topological term in string theory.

Deformation dynamics and the Gauss-Bonnet topological term in string theory

We show that there exist a nontrivial contribution on the Witten covariant phase space when the Gauss-Bonnet topological term is added to the Dirac-Nambu Goto action describing strings, because of the geometry of deformations is modified, and on such space we construct a symplectic structure. Future extensions of the present results are outlined.

Basic symplectic geometry for p-branes with thickness in a curved background

We show that the Witten covariant phase space for p-branes with thickness in an arbitrary background is endowed of a symplectic potential, which although is not important to the dynamics of the system, plays a relevant role on the phase space, allowing us to generate a symplectic structure for the theory and therefore give a covariant description of canonical formalism for quantization.
