Quasilinear Liouville equation on manifolds with nonnegative Ricci curvature

We prove rigidity and classification results for the quasilinear Liouville equation associated with the $n$-Laplacian on complete noncompact Riemannian manifolds with nonnegative Ricci curvature. Our first result shows that, under a sharp logarithmic lower bound, the ambient manifold must be isometric to the Euclidean space and the solution must be one of the standard bubbles. We also prove a finite-mass rigidity theorem under the corresponding sharp asymptotic lower bound. We show that any logarithmic lower bound forces positive asymptotic volume ratio and one-endedness of the manifold. Finally, we construct solutions on nonflat manifolds with nonnegative Ricci curvature showing the sharpness of our hypotheses.

Gradient estimates for the Green kernel under spectral Ricci bounds, and the stable Bernstein theorem in $\mathbb{R}^4$

We describe a method to prove new integral inequalities for stable minimal hypersurfaces in Euclidean space. As an application, we give a simple proof that complete, two sided, stable minimal hypersurfaces in $\mathbb{R}^4$ are hyperplanes. A core part of the argument hinges on the fact that stable minimal hypersurfaces in non-negatively curved spaces are examples of manifolds with a spectral Ricci curvature lower bound; in particular, we prove a sharp pointwise gradient estimate for the Green kernel on non-parabolic manifolds with spectral Ricci lower bounds, extending previous work by Colding.

Rigidity for the heat equation with density on Riemannian manifolds through a conformal change

We investigate uniqueness of solution to the heat equation with a density $\rho$ on complete, non-compact weighted Riemannian manifolds of infinite volume. Our main goal is to identify sufficient conditions under which the solution $u$ vanishes identically, assuming that $u$ belongs to a certain weighted Lebesgue space with exponential or polynomial weight, $L^p_{\phi}$. We distinguish between the cases $p > 1$ and $p = 1$ which required stronger assumptions on the manifold and the density function $\rho$. We develop a unified method based on a conformal transformation of the metric, which allows us to reduce the problem to a standard heat equation on a suitably weighted manifold. In addition, we construct explicit counterexamples on model manifolds which demonstrate optimality of our assumptions on the density $\rho$.

Rigidity of solutions to singular/degenerate semilinear critical equations

This paper deals with singular/degenerate semilinear critical equations which arise as the Euler-Lagrange equation of Caffarelli-Kohn-Nirenberg inequalities in $\mathbb{R}^d$, with $d\geq 2$. We prove several rigidity results for positive solutions, in particular we classify solutions with possibily infinite energy when the intrinsic dimension $n$ satisfies $2<n<4$.

Criticality, splitting theorems under spectral Ricci bounds and the topology of stable minimal hypersurfaces

In this paper we prove general criticality criteria for operators $\Delta + V$ on manifolds with more than one end, where $V$ bounds the Ricci curvature, and a related spectral splitting theorem extending Cheeger-Gromoll's one. Our results give new insight on Li-Wang's theory of manifolds with a weighted Poincar\'e inequality. We apply them to study stable and $\delta$-stable minimal hypersurfaces in manifolds with non-negative bi-Ricci or sectional curvature, in ambient dimension up to $5$ and $6$, respectively. In the special case where the ambient space is $\mathbb{R}^4$, we prove that a $1/3$-stable minimal hypersurface must either have one end or be a catenoid, and that proper, $\delta$-stable minimal hypersurfaces with $\delta > 1/3$ must be hyperplanes.

Liouville Theorems on pseudohermitian manifolds with nonnegative Tanaka-Webster curvature

In this paper we study positive solutions to the CR Yamabe equation in noncompact $(2n+1)$-dimensional Sasakian manifolds with nonnegative curvature. In particular, we show that the Heisenberg group $\mathbb{H}^1$ is the only (complete) Sasakian space with nonnegative Tanaka-Webster scalar curvature admitting a (nontrivial) positive solution. Moreover, under some natural assumptions, we prove this strong rigidity result in higher dimensions, extending the celebrated Jerison-Lee's result to curved manifolds.

Brezis-Nirenberg-type results for the anisotropic $p$-Laplacian

In this paper we consider a quasilinear elliptic and critical problem with Dirichlet boundary conditions in presence of the anisotropic $p$-Laplacian. The critical exponent is the usual $p^{\star}$ such that the embedding $W^{1,p}_{0}(\Omega) \subset L^{p^{\star}}(\Omega)$ is not compact. We prove the existence of a weak positive solution in presence of both a $p$-linear and a $p$-superlinear perturbation. In doing this, we have to perform several precise estimates of the anisotropic Aubin-Talenti functions which can be of interest for further problems. The results we prove are a natural generalization to the anisotropic setting of the classical ones by Brezis-Nirenberg \cite{BN}.

A Liouville theorem in the Heisenberg group

In this paper we classify positive solutions to the critical semilinear elliptic equation in $\mathbb{H}^n$. We prove that they are the Jerison-Lee's bubbles, provided $n=1$ or $n\geq 2$ and a suitable control at infinity holds. The proofs are based on a classical Jerison-Lee's differential identity and on pointwise/integral estimates recently obtained for critical semilinear and quasilinear elliptic equations in $\mathbb{R}^n$. In particular, the result in $\mathbb{H}^1$ can be seen as the analogue of the celebrated Caffarelli-Gidas-Spruck classification theorem.

Optimal quantitative stability for a Serrin-type problem in convex cones

We consider a Serrin-type problem in convex cones in the Euclidean space and motivated by recent rigidity results we study the quantitative stability issue for this problem. In particular, we prove both sharp Lipschitz estimates for an $L^2-$pseudodistance and estimates in terms of the Hausdorff distance.

A note on Serrin's type problem on Riemannian manifolds

In this paper, we deal with Serrin-type problems in Riemannian manifolds. First, we obtain a Heintze-Karcher inequality and a Soap Bubble result, with its respective rigidity, when the ambient space has a Ricci tensor bounded below. After, we approach a Serrin problem in bounded domains of manifolds endowed with a closed conformal vector field. Our primary tool, in this case, is a new Pohozaev identity, which depends on the scalar curvature of the manifold. Applications involve Einstein and constant scalar curvature spaces.

A closure result for globally hyperbolic spacetimes

In this paper we prove a closure result for globally hyperbolic spacetimes satisfying, at a certain time, natural assumptions on the deceleration, the pressure and the Hubble constant. The main tool that we use is a general Bonnet-Myers type result.

Non-existence of patterns for a class of weighted degenerate operators

A classical result by Casten-Holland and Matano asserts that constants are the only positive and stable solutions to semilinear elliptic PDEs subject to homogeneous Neumann boundary condition in bounded convex domains. In other terms, this result asserts that stable patterns do not exist in convex domains. In this paper we consider a weighted version of the Laplace operator, where the weight may be singular or degenerate at the origin, and prove the nonexistence of patterns, extending the results by Casten-Holland and Matano to general weak solutions (not necessarily stable) and under a suitable assumption on the nonlinearity and the domain. Our results exhibit some intriguing behaviour of the problem according to the weight and the geometry of the domain. Indeed, our main results follow from a geometric assumption on the second fundamental form of the boundary in terms of a parameter which describes the degeneracy of the operator. As a consequence, we provide some examples and show that nonexistence of patterns may occurs also for non convex domains whenever the weight is degenerate.

Uniqueness in weighted Lebesgue spaces for an elliptic equation with drift on manifolds

We investigate the uniqueness, in suitable weighted Lebesgue spaces, of solutions to a class of elliptic equations with a drift posed on a complete, noncompact, Riemannian manifold $M$ of infinite volume and dimension $N\ge2$. Furthermore, in the special case of a model manifold with polynomial volume growth, we show that the conditions on the drift term are sharp.

Two rigidity results for stable minimal hypersurfaces

The aim of this paper is to prove two results concerning the rigidity of complete, immersed, orientable, stable minimal hypersurfaces: we show that they are hyperplane in $\mathbb{R}^4$, while they do not exist in positively curved closed Riemannian $(n+1)$-manifold when $n\leq 5$; in particular, there are no stable minimal hypersurfaces in $\mathbb{S}^{n+1}$ when $n\leq 5$. The first result was recently proved also by Chodosh and Li, and the second is a consequence of a more general result concerning minimal surfaces with finite index. Both theorems rely on a conformal method, inspired by a classical work of Fischer-Colbrie.

An overview on extremals and critical points of the Sobolev inequality in convex cones

In this survey, we consider the sharp Sobolev inequality in convex cones. We also prove it by using the optimal transport technique. Then we present some results related to the Euler-Lagrange equation of the Sobolev inequality: the so-called critical p-Laplace equation. Finally, we discuss some stability results related to the Sobolev inequality.

On the critical $p$-Laplace equation

In this paper we provide the classification of positive solutions to the critical $p-$Laplace equation on $\mathbb{R}^n$, for $1<p<n$, possibly having infinite energy. If $n=2$, or if $n=3$ and $\frac 32<p<2$ we prove rigidity without any further assumptions. In the remaining cases we obtain the classification under energy growth conditions or suitable control of the solutions at infinity. Our assumptions are much weaker than those already appearing in the literature. We also discuss the extension of the results to the Riemannian setting.

Sobolev-type inequalities on Cartan-Hadamard manifolds and applications to some nonlinear diffusion equations

We investigate the validity, as well as the failure, of Sobolev-type inequalities on Cartan-Hadamard manifolds under suitable bounds on the sectional and the Ricci curvatures. We prove that if the sectional curvatures are bounded from above by a negative power of the distance from a fixed pole (times a negative constant), then all the $ L^p $ inequalities that interpolate between Poincaré and Sobolev hold for radial functions provided the power lies in the interval $ (-2,0) $. The Poincaré inequality was established by H.P. McKean under a constant negative bound from above on the sectional curvatures. If the power is equal to the critical value $ -2 $ we show that $ p $ must necessarily be bounded away from $ 2 $. Upon assuming that the Ricci curvature vanishes at infinity, the nonradial version of such inequalities turns out to fail, except in the Sobolev case. Finally, we discuss applications of the here-established Sobolev-type inequalities to optimal smoothing effects for radial porous medium equations.

Classification and non-existence results for weak solutions to quasilinear elliptic equations with Neumann or Robin boundary conditions

We classify positive solutions to a class of quasilinear equations with Neumann or Robin boundary conditions in convex domains. Our main tool is an integral formula involving the trace of some relevant quantities for the problem. Under a suitable condition on the nonlinearity, a relevant consequence of our results is that we can extend to weak solutions a celebrated result obtained for stable solutions by Casten and Holland and by Matano.
