A positive version of Miljutin's Theorem

In this paper we provide a positive version of Miljutin's theorem. Namely, we show that for any uncountable compact metric spaces $K$ and $L$ there exists a positive isomorphism $T:C(K)\longrightarrow C(L)$. Moreover, the inverse of $T$ is a regular operator, and $T$ may be chosen so that $\|T\|_\mathrm{r} \cdot \|T^{-1}\|_\mathrm{r} \leq 9+6\sqrt3$. The method also gives positive versions of classical nonmetrizable results for Miljutin and Dugundji compacta. In particular, if $G$ and $H$ are infinite compact groups of the same weight, then $C(G)$ and $C(H)$ are positively and regularly isomorphic with the same uniform quantitative estimate.

New results on Fourier multipliers on $L^p$: a perspective through unimodular symbols

The paper focuses on the behaviour of unimodular Fourier multipliers with exponential growth in the context of weighted $L^p$-spaces. Our main result shows that much of the general theory of multipliers is approachable through the theory of unimodular multipliers. Indeed, we show that a bounded measurable function $m$ is a multiplier on $L^p$ for $1\leq p<\infty$ provided that $e^{itm}$ is a multiplier on $L^p$ and its multiplier norm admits an exponential bound of the form $e^{c|t|^s}$ for suitable $c>0$ and $0<s<1$. We then apply this principle to obtain new results related to the boundedness of homogeneous rough operators, singular operators along curves and oscillatory integrals. A key ingredient in our study is an extension of the classical Stein's theorem on analytic families of operators that studies the behaviour of the derivative operator when $θ\to 0$.

On the three space property for $C(K)$-spaces

Assuming $\mathfrak p=\mathfrak c$, we show that for every Eberlein compact space $L$ of weight $\mathfrak c$ there exists a short exact sequence $0\to c_0\to X\to C(L)\to 0$, where the Banach space $X$ is not isomorphic to a $C(K)$-space.

The behaviour of quasi-linear maps on $C(K)$-spaces

In this paper we combine topological and functional analysis methods to prove that a non-locally trivial quasi-linear map defined on a $C(K)$ must be nontrivial on a subspace isomorphic to $c_0$. We conclude the paper with a few examples showing that the result is optimal, and providing an application to the existence of nontrivial twisted sums of $\ell_1$ and $c_0$.

Free quasi-Banach lattices

We study different versions of \emph{free objects} in the setting of quasi-Banach spaces and quasi-Banach lattices. Special attention is devoted to the free $p$-convex $p$-Banach lattice $\operatorname{FpBL}^{(p)}[E]$ generated by a $p$-natural quasi-Banach space $E$, for which we provide a functional representation by means of operators into $L_p[0,1]$. This representation yields, among other consequences: (1) Operators from a Banach space $E$ to any $p$-convex $(0<p<1)$ quasi-Banach lattice $X$ can be extended to lattice homomorphisms $\operatorname{FBL}[E] \to X$ with control of the norm. (2) The space $\ell_p(Γ)$ $(0<p<1)$ is a projective $p$-Banach lattice precisely when $Γ$ is countable. (3) The free vector lattice generated by $E$ sits inside $\operatorname{FpBL}^{(p)}[E]$ as a dense sublattice.

When Kalton and Peck met Fourier

The paper studies short exact sequences of Banach modules over the convolution algebra $L_1=L_1(G)$, where $G$ is a compact abelian group. The main tool is the notion of a nonlinear $L_1$-centralizer, which in combination with the Fourier transform, is used to produce sequences of $L_1$-modules $0\rightarrow L_q \rightarrow Z \rightarrow L_p \rightarrow 0$ that are nontrivial as long as the general theory allows it, namely for $p\in (1,\infty], q\in[1,\infty)$. Concrete examples are worked in detail for the circle group, with applications to the Hardy classes, and the Cantor group.

Sailing over three problems of Koszmider

We discuss three problems of Koszmider on the structure of the spaces of continuous functions on the Stone compact $K_{\mathcal A}$ generated by an almost disjoint family $\mathcal A$ of infinite subsets of $ω$ -- we present a solution to two problems and develop a previous results of Marciszewski and Pol answering the third one. We will show, in particular, that assuming Martin's axiom the space $C(K_{\mathcal A})$ is uniquely determined up to isomorphism by the cardinality of $\mathcal A$ whenever $|{\mathcal A}|<{\mathfrak c}$, while there are $2^{\mathfrak c}$ nonisomorphic spaces $C(K_{\mathcal A})$ with $|{\mathcal A}|= {\mathfrak c}$. We also investigate Koszmider's problems in the context of the class of separable Rosenthal compacta and indicate the meaning of our results in the language of twisted sums of $c_0$ and some $C(K)$ spaces.
