Formal symplectic realizations

We study the relationship between several constructions of symplectic realizations of a given Poisson manifold. Our main result is a general formula for a formal symplectic realization in the case of an arbitrary Poisson structure on $\R^n$. This formula is expressed in terms of rooted trees and elementary differentials, building on the work of Butcher, and the coefficients are shown to be a generalization of Bernoulli numbers appearing in the linear Poisson case. We also show that this realization coincides with a formal version of the original construction of Weinstein, when suitably put in global Darboux form, and with the realization coming from tree-level part of Kontsevich's star product. We provide a simple iterated integral expression for the relevant coefficients and show that they coincide with underlying Kontsevich weights.

Dirac Geometry of the Holonomy Fibration

In this paper, we solve the problem of giving a gauge-theoretic description of the natural Dirac structure on a Lie Group which plays a prominent role in the theory of D- branes for the Wess-Zumino-Witten model as well as the theory of quasi-Hamiltonian spaces. We describe the structure as an infinite-dimensional reduction of the space of connections over the circle. Our insight is that the formal Poisson structure on the space of connections is not an actual Poisson structure, but is itself a Dirac structure, due to the fact that it is defined by an unbounded operator. We also develop general tools for reducing Courant algebroids and morphisms between them, allowing us to give a precise correspondence between Hamiltonian loop group spaces and quasi- Hamiltonian spaces.

Vector bundles over Lie groupoids and algebroids

We study VB-groupoids and VB-algebroids, which are vector bundles in the realm of Lie groupoids and Lie algebroids. Through a suitable reformulation of their definitions, we elucidate the Lie theory relating these objects, i.e., their relation via differentiation and integration. We also show how to extend our techniques to describe the more general Lie theory underlying double Lie algebroids and LA-groupoids.

Multisymplectic geometry and Lie groupoids

We study higher-degree generalizations of symplectic groupoids, referred to as {\em multisymplectic groupoids}. Recalling that Poisson structures may be viewed as infinitesimal counterparts of symplectic groupoids, we describe "higher'' versions of Poisson structures by identifying the infinitesimal counterparts of multisymplectic groupoids. Some basic examples and features are discussed.

AKSZ construction from reduction data

We discuss a general procedure to encode the reduction of the target space geometry into AKSZ sigma models. This is done by considering the AKSZ construction with target the BFV model for constrained graded symplectic manifolds. We investigate the relation between this sigma model and the one with the reduced structure. We also discuss several examples in dimension two and three when the symmetries come from Lie group actions and systematically recover models already proposed in the literature.

Multiplicative forms at the infinitesimal level

We describe arbitrary multiplicative differential forms on Lie groupoids infinitesimally, i.e., in terms of Lie algebroid data. This description is based on the study of linear differential forms on Lie algebroids and encompasses many known integration results related to Poisson geometry. We also revisit multiplicative multivector fields and their infinitesimal counterparts, drawing a parallel between the two theories.

Symmetries and reduction of multiplicative 2-forms

This paper is concerned with symmetries of closed multiplicative 2-forms on Lie groupoids and their infinitesimal counterparts. We use them to study Lie group actions on Dirac manifolds by Dirac diffeomorphisms and their lifts to presymplectic groupoids, building on recent work of Fernandes-Ortega-Ratiu \cite{FOR} on Poisson actions.

Linear and multiplicative 2-forms

We study the relationship between multiplicative 2-forms on Lie groupoids and linear 2-forms on Lie algebroids, which leads to a new approach to the infinitesimal description of multiplicative 2-forms and to the integration of twisted Dirac manifolds.

Base-controlled mechanical systems and geometric phases

In this paper, we carry a detailed study of mechanical systems with configuration space $Q\longrightarrow Q/G$ for which the base $Q/G$ variables are being controlled. The overall system's motion is considered to be induced from the base one due to the presence of general non-holonomic constraints. It is shown that the solution can be factorized into dynamical and geometrical parts. Moreover, under favorable kinematical circumstances, the dynamical part admits a further factorization since it can be reconstructed from an intermediate (body) momentum solution, yielding a reconstruction phase formula. Finally, we apply this results to the study of concrete mechanical systems.

Some geometric features of Berry's phase

In this letter, we elaborate on the identification and construction of the differential geometric elements underlying Berry's phase. Berry bundles are built generally from the physical data of the quantum system under study. We apply this construction to typical and recently investigated systems presenting Berry's phase to explore their geometric features.

A Generalized Montgomery Phase Formula for Rotating Self Deforming Bodies

We study the motion of self deforming bodies with non zero angular momentum when the changing shape is known as a function of time. The conserved angular momentum with respect to the center of mass, when seen from a rotating frame, describes a curve on a sphere as it happens for the rigid body motion, though obeying a more complicated non-autonomous equation. We observe that if, after time $ΔT$, this curve is simple and closed, the deforming body \'{}s orientation in space is fully characterized by an angle or phase $θ_{M}$. We also give a reconstruction formula for this angle which generalizes R. Montgomery\'{}s well known formula for the rigid body phase. Finally, we apply these techniques to obtain analytical results on the motion of deforming bodies in some concrete examples.
