A generalized cluster structure on $GL_n$ via birational Poisson maps

In a recent work, we constructed a rational map from a simple Lie group $\mathcal G$ to itself that intertwines the standard Poisson--Lie structure on $\mathcal G$ with a Poisson homogeneous one defined by a pair of quasi-triangular solutions to the classical Yang--Baxter equation (CYBE) known as R-matrices. We also showed, in the case of $SL_n$, that if the combinatorial Belavin--Drinfeld data associated with these R-matrices satisfies certain aperiodicity conditions, the map is, in fact, birational and can be used to obtain an initial cluster for an exotic cluster structure on $SL_n$ via the pullback of Berenstein--Fomin--Zelevinsky cluster variables. The same strategy was later used by the first author and D.~Voloshyn to describe generalized cluster structures compatible with the Poisson dual of the Poisson--Lie bracket defined by a quasi-triangular R-matrix. In this paper we further promote the use of birational Poisson maps in constructing generalized cluster structures by applying it in the situation when the aperiodicity condition is not satisfied. To this end, we describe a generalized cluster structure on $GL_n$ compatible with the Poisson homogeneous bracket defined by two Cremmer--Gervais solutions to the CYBE related via conjugation by the longest element of the Weyl group. The key ingredient to our construction is a birational map that connects the bracket under consideration with two other Poisson brackets: the Poisson dual to Cremmer--Gervais Poisson--Lie bracket on $GL_{n-1}$ and the bracket on a certain space of complex rational functions of one variable closely related to cluster algebraic interpretation of Coxeter--Toda flows. New notions of a regular pullback of a seed and of an almost-cluster structure whose detailed description are given in a separate note also play an important role in our construction.

Regular pullback of generalized cluster structures

We consider the problem of lifting a regular cluster structure on a quasi-affine variety to the ambient affine space and a similar problem of defining a regular pullback of a regular cluster structure under a dominant rational map between affine spaces. We provide sufficient conditions for the existence of the corresponding object, called an almost-cluster structure, study its combinatorics, compatible Poisson bracket and the corresponding upper cluster algebra.

A unified approach to exotic cluster structures on simple Lie groups

We propose a new approach to building log-canonical coordinate charts for any simply-connected simple Lie group $\G$ and arbitrary Poisson-homogeneous bracket on $\G$ associated with Belavin--Drinfeld data. Given a pair of representatives $r, r'$ from two arbitrary Belavin--Drinfeld classes, we build a rational map from $\G$ with the Poisson structure defined by two appropriately selected representatives from the standard class to $\G$ equipped with the Poisson structure defined by the pair $r, r'$. In the $A_n$ case, we prove that this map is invertible whenever the pair $r, r'$ is drawn from aperiodic Belavin--Drinfeld data, as defined in~\cite{GSVple}. We further apply this construction to recover the existence of a regular complete cluster structure compatible with the Poisson structure associated with the pair $r, r'$ in the aperiodic case.

Generalized Cluster Structures Related to the Drinfeld Double of $GL_n$

We prove that the regular generalized cluster structure on the Drinfeld double of $GL_n$ constructed in arXiv:1912.00453 is complete and compatible with the standard Poisson--Lie structure on the double. Moreover, we show that for $n=4$ this structure is distinct from a previously known regular generalized cluster structure on the Drinfeld double, even though they have the same compatible Poisson structure and the same collection of frozen variables. Further, we prove that the regular generalized cluster structure on band periodic matrices constructed in arXiv:1912.00453 possesses similar compatibility and completeness properties.

Periodic staircase matrices and generalized cluster structures

As is well-known, cluster transformations in cluster structures of geometric type are often modeled on determinant identities, such as short Plucker relations, Desnanot--Jacobi identities and their generalizations. We present a construction that plays a similar role in a description of generalized cluster transformations and discuss its applications to generalized cluster structures in GL_n compatible with a certain subclass of Belavin--Drinfeld Poisson--Lie brackets, in the Drinfeld double of GL_n, and in spaces of periodic difference operators.

Plethora of cluster structures on $GL_n$

We continue the study of multiple cluster structures in the rings of regular functions on $GL_n$, $SL_n$ and $\operatorname{Mat}_n$ that are compatible with Poisson-Lie and Poisson-homogeneous structures. According to our initial conjecture, each class in the Belavin-Drinfeld classification of Poisson--Lie structures on a semisimple complex group $\mathcal G$ corresponds to a cluster structure in $\mathcal O(\mathcal G)$. Here we prove this conjecture for a large subset of Belavin-Drinfeld (BD) data of $A_n$ type, which includes all the previously known examples. Namely, we subdivide all possible $A_n$ type BD data into oriented and non-oriented kinds. In the oriented case, we single out BD data satisfying a certain combinatorial condition that we call aperiodicity and prove that for any BD data of this kind there exists a regular cluster structure compatible with the corresponding Poisson-Lie bracket. In fact, we extend the aperiodicity condition to pairs of oriented BD data and prove a more general result that establishes an existence of a regular cluster structure on $SL_n$ compatible with a Poisson bracket homogeneous with respect to the right and left action of two copies of $SL_n$ equipped with two different Poisson-Lie brackets. If the aperiodicity condition is not satisfied, a compatible cluster structure has to be replaced with a generalized cluster structure. We will address this situation in future publications.

Exotic cluster structures on $SL_n$: the Cremmer-Gervais case

This is the second paper in the series of papers dedicated to the study of natural cluster structures in the rings of regular functions on simple complex Lie groups and Poisson-Lie structures compatible with these cluster structures. According to our main conjecture, each class in the Belavin-Drinfeld classification of Poisson-Lie structures on $\G$ corresponds to a cluster structure in $Ø(\G)$. We have shown before that this conjecture holds for any $\G$ in the case of the standard Poisson-Lie structure and for all Belavin-Drinfeld classes in $SL_n$, $n<5$. In this paper we establish it for the Cremmer-Gervais Poisson-Lie structure on $SL_n$, which is the least similar to the standard one.

Drinfeld double of $GL_n$ and generalized cluster structures

We construct a generalized cluster structure compatible with the Poisson bracket on the Drinfeld double of the standard Poisson-Lie group $GL_n$ and derive from it a generalized cluster structure on $GL_n$ compatible with the push-forward of the Poisson bracket on the dual Poisson--Lie group.

On the properties of the exchange graph of a cluster algebra

We prove a conjecture about the vertices and edges of the exchange graph of a cluster algebra $\A$ in two cases: when $\A$ is of geometric type and when $\A$ is arbitrary and its exchange matrix is nondegenerate. In the second case we also prove that the exchange graph does not depend on the coefficients of $\A$. Both conjectures were formulated recently by Fomin and Zelevinsky.

Integrable cluster dynamics of directed networks and pentagram maps

The pentagram map was introduced by R. Schwartz more than 20 years ago. In 2009, V. Ovsienko, R. Schwartz and S. Tabachnikov established Liouville complete integrability of this discrete dynamical system. In 2011, M. Glick interpreted the pentagram map as a sequence of cluster transformations associated with a special quiver. Using compatible Poisson structures in cluster algebras and Poisson geometry of directed networks on surfaces, we generalize Glick's construction to include the pentagram map into a family of discrete integrable maps and we give these maps geometric interpretations. This paper expands on our research announcement arXiv:1110.0472

Cremmer--Gervais cluster structure on $SL_n$

We study natural cluster structures in the rings of regular functions on simple complex Lie groups and Poisson-Lie structures compatible with these cluster structures. According to our main conjecture, each class in the Belavin-Drinfeld classification of Poisson-Lie structures on $\G$ corresponds to a cluster structure in $Ø(\G)$. We have shown before that this conjecture holds for any $\G$ in the case of the standard Poisson--Lie structure and for all Belavin-Drinfeld classes in $SL_n$, $n<5$. In this paper we establish it for the Cremmer-Gervais Poisson-Lie structure on $SL_n$, which is the least similar to the standard one. Besides, we prove that on $SL_3$ the cluster algebra and the upper cluster algebra corresponding to the Cremmer-Gervais cluster structure do not coincide, unlike the case of the standard cluster structure. Finally, we show that the positive locus with respect to the Cremmer-Gervais cluster structure is contained in the set of totally positive matrices.

Higher pentagram maps, weighted directed networks, and cluster dynamics

The pentagram map that associates to a projective polygon a new one formed by intersections of short diagonals was introduced by R. Schwartz and was shown to be integrable by V. Ovsienko, R. Schwartz and S. Tabachnikov. Recently, M. Glick demonstrated that the pentagram map can be put into the framework of the theory of cluster algebras. In this paper, we extend and generalize Glick's work by including the pentagram map into a family of discrete completely integrable systems. Our main tool is Poisson geometry of weighted directed networks on surfaces developed by M. Gekhtman, M. Shapiro, and A. Vainshtein. The ingredients necessary for complete integrability -- invariant Poisson brackets, integrals of motion in involution, Lax representation -- are recovered from combinatorics of the networks. Our integrable systems depend on one discrete parameter $k>1$. The case $k=3$ corresponds to the pentagram map. For $k>3$, we give our integrable systems a geometric interpretation as pentagram-like maps involving deeper diagonals. If $k=2$ and the ground field is $\C$, we give a geometric interpretation in terms of circle patterns.

Cluster structures on simple complex Lie groups and the Belavin-Drinfeld classification

We prove a reduction theorem explaining how different parts of the conjecture are related to each other. The conjecture is established for $SL_n$, $n<5$, and for any $\G$ in the case of the standard Poisson-Lie structure.

Poisson Geometry of Directed Networks in an Annulus

As a generalization of Postnikov's construction (see arXiv: math/0609764), we define a map from the space of edge weights of a directed network in an annulus into a space of loops in the Grassmannian. We then show that universal Poisson brackets introduced for the space of edge weights in arXiv: 0805.3541 induce a family of Poisson structures on rational-valued matrix functions and on the space of loops in the Grassmannian. In the former case, this family includes, for a particular kind of networks, the Poisson bracket associated with the trigonometric R-matrix.

Generalized Bäcklund-Darboux transformations for Coxeter-Toda flows from a cluster algebra perspective

We present the third in the series of papers describing Poisson properties of planar directed networks in the disk or in the annulus. In this paper we concentrate on special networks N_{u,v} in the disk that correspond to the choice of a pair (u,v) of Coxeter elements in the symmetric group and the corresponding networks N_{u,v}^\circ in the annulus. Boundary measurements for N_{u,v} represent elements of the Coxeter double Bruhat cell G^{u,v} in GL_n. The Cartan subgroup acts on G^{u,v} by conjugation. The standard Poisson structure on the space of weights of N_{u,v} induces a Poisson structure on G^{u,v}, and hence on its quotient by the Cartan subgroup, which makes the latter into the phase space for an appropriate Coxeter--Toda lattice. The boundary measurement for N_{u,v}^\circ is a rational function that coincides up to a nonzero factor with the Weyl function for the boundary measurement for N_{u,v}. The corresponding Poisson bracket on the space of weights of N_{u,v}^\circ induces a Poisson bracket on the certain space of rational functions, which appeared previously in the context of Toda flows. Following the ideas developed in our previous papers, we introduce a cluster algebra A on this space, compatible with the obtained Poisson bracket. Generalized Bäcklund--Darboux transformations map solutions of one Coxeter--Toda lattice to solutions of another preserving the corresponding Weyl function. Using network representation, we construct generalized Bäcklund-Darboux transformations as appropriate sequences of cluster transformations in A.

Poisson structures compatible with the cluster algebra structure in Grassmannians

We describe all Poisson brackets compatible with the natural cluster algebra structure in the open Schubert cell of the Grassmannian $G_k(n)$ and show that any such bracket endows $G_k(n)$ with a structure of a Poisson homogeneous space with respect to the natural action of $SL_n$ equipped with an R-matrix Poisson-Lie structure. The corresponding R-matrices belong to the simplest class in the Belavin-Drinfeld classification. Moreover, every compatible Poisson structure can be obtained this way.

Poisson Geometry of Directed Networks in a Disk

We investigate Poisson properties of Postnikov's map from the space of edge weights of a planar directed network into the Grassmannian. We show that this map is Poisson if the space of edge weights is equipped with a representative of a 6-parameter family of universal quadratic Poisson brackets and the Grasmannian is viewed as a Poisson homogeneous space of the general linear group equipped with an appropriately chosen R-matrix Poisson-Lie structure. We also prove that Poisson brackets on the Grassmannian arising in this way are compatible with the natural cluster algebra structure.
