Stability and squeezing of the three-photon degenerate parametric down-conversion

Nonlinear multiphoton conversion processes are theoretically and experimentally challenging systems in quantum optics and related areas. These phenomena bring remarkable quantum properties and can be of fundamental relevance in quantum information and computation applications. Based on recent experimental advances and the possible uses in generalized three-photon squeezing, we investigate degenerate three-photon parametric down-conversion generated inside a cavity fed by a classical pump. In addition, we consider that the process is stimulated by a coherent driving mode and subjected to dissipation by spontaneous emission of the cavity. A treatment using phase-space methods and stochastic differential equations is applied and the stability conditions of its steady states are found. We find that the system does not exhibit multistability, instead it has a limited parameter region leading to a single stable steady branch, alongside multiple unstable branches. Focusing on the stable steady states and linearizing the dynamics around them, we calculate the spectral densities of the quadrature variables. We identify and characterize the squeezing of three-photon down-conversion. Moreover, since the quasi-probability differential equations of the higher-order multiphoton processes have higher-order derivatives, hindering their mapping into stochastic differential equations, we make use of a positive Wigner function approach to calculate two-dimensional spectral densities associated with three-time correlation functions, with the goal of studying non-Gaussian properties of the system.

Multipartite continuous-variable quantum nondemolition interaction and entanglement certification and monitoring

The quantum nondemolition (QND) measurement is one of the most studied quantum measurement procedures. Usually, such process involves the coupling of a single system of interest, called signal, with a single probe system, so that the relevant information in the signal system is indirectly measured by observing the probe system. Here, we extend the concept of quantum nondemolition interaction to the cases in which the signal and the probe systems are each one multipartite continuous-variable systems. Specifically, we propose a general scheme that performs the multipartite QND interactions, relying on beam-splitter couplings among the signal and probe modes with ancillary modes prepared off-line in squeezed states. The scheme is also composed by homodyne detections and feedforward modulations. The ancillary modes are detected in the process, providing photocurrents for post-modulation of the output systems, as well as sufficient information to calculate genuine multipartite entanglement conditions of the input systems and to monitor similar conditions of the output systems.

Robust Gaussian Teleportation with Attenuations and Non-unity Gain

The average fidelity of the teleportation of a coherent state is calculated for general Gaussian bipartite systems shared by the partners of the protocol, Alice and Bob. It is considered that the shared Gaussian bipartite modes suffer independent attenuations before the processing of Alice and Bob. Moreover the classical communication between the partners can be controlled by a gain not necessarily unitary. Comparing with the classical fidelity threshold of measure-and-prepare methods, we establish several genuinely quantum teleportation conditions which depend on the gain and the local attenuations. Considering that the gain can be tuned to maximize the bipartite state set able to genuinely quantum teleportation, a condition for teleportation robust to local attenuations is found. This condition is demonstrated to be essentially equivalent to the condition of robust Gaussian bipartite entanglement, obtained in previous articles, showing that the attenuation robustness is an entanglement property relevant for characterization and application of bipartite systems. For the derivation of the robust teleportation conditions, the Gaussian operations onto the bipartite system are thoroughly studied, so that the transformations that maintain the fidelity invariant are found. Some scenarios for different Gaussian bipartite states are presented and discussed.

Nondestructive verification of continuous-variable entanglement

An optical procedure in the context of continuous variables to verify bipartite entanglement without destroying both systems and their entanglement is proposed. To perform the nondestructive verification of entanglement, the method relies on beam-splitter and quantum nondemolition (QND) interactions of the signal modes with two ancillary probe modes. The probe modes are measured by homodyne detections, and the obtained information is used to feed forward modulation of signal modes, concluding the procedure. Characterizing the method by figures of merit used in QND processes, we can establish the conditions for an effectively quantum scheme. Based on such conditions, it is shown that the classical information acquired from the homodyne detections of probe modes is sufficient to verify the entanglement of the output signal modes. The processing impact due to added noise on the output entanglement is assessed in the case of Gaussian modes.
