A Damage-Driven Model for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy: Early-Stage Dynamics and Invasion Thresholds

We introduce a spatially extended mathematical model for Duchenne muscular dystrophy based on a damage-driven paradigm, in which immune recruitment is triggered by tissue injury. The model is formulated as a reaction--diffusion--chemotaxis system describing the interaction between healthy tissue, damaged fibers, immune cells and inflammatory signals. We establish the global well-posedness of the system and investigate the early-stage dynamics through linearization around the healthy equilibrium. Our analysis shows that diffusion does not induce Turing instabilities, so that spatial heterogeneity cannot arise from diffusion-driven mechanisms. Instead, disease progression occurs through invasion processes. We derive explicit conditions for the onset of invasion, interpreted as an effective damage reproduction threshold and characterize the minimal propagation speed of pathological fronts, showing that the dynamics is governed by a pulled-front mechanism. Numerical simulations support the analytical results and confirm the transition between decay and invasion. These results provide a mathematical framework for early-stage disease progression and indicate that spatial spreading arise from the expansion of localized damage rather than from intrinsic pattern-forming mechanisms.

Differential constraints for hyperbolic systems through k-Riemann invariants

In this paper we develop a reduction procedure for determining exact wave solutions of first order quasilinear hyperbolic one-dimensional nonhomogeneous systems. The approach is formulated within the theoretical framework of the method of differential constraints and it makes use of the $k-$Riemann invariants. The solutions obtained permit to characterize rarefaction waves also for nonhomogeneous models so that Riemann problems can be solved. Applications to the Euler system describing an ideal fluid with a source term are given.

Geometric aspects of non-homogeneous 1+0 operators

Led by the key example of the Korteweg-de Vries equation, we study pairs of Hamiltonian operators which are non-homogeneous and are given by the sum of a first-order operator and an ultralocal structure. We present a complete classification of the Casimir functions associated with the degenerate operators in two and three components. We define tensorial criteria to establish the compatibility of two non-homogeneous operators and show a classification of pairs for systems in two components, with some preliminary results for three components as well. Lastly, we study pairs composed of non-degenerate operators only, introducing the definition of bi-pencils. First results show that the considered operators can be related to Nijenhuis geometry, proving a compatibility result in this direction in the framework of Lie algebras.

Classification of 1+0 two-dimensional Hamiltonian operators

In this paper, we study Hamiltonian operators which are sum of a first order operator and of a Poisson tensor, in two spatial independent variables. In particular, a complete classification of these operators is presented in two and three components, analyzing both the cases of degenerate and non degenerate leading coefficients.

A reduction procedure for determining exact solutions of second order hyperbolic equations

In this paper we develop a systematic reduction procedure for determining intermediate integrals of second order hyperbolic equations so that exact solutions of the second order PDEs under interest can be obtained by solving first order PDEs. We give some conditions in order that such a procedure holds and, in particular, we characterize classes of linear second order hyperbolic equations for which the general solution can be found.

Quasilinear differential constraints for parabolic systems of Jordan-block type

We prove that linear degeneracy is a necessary conditions for systems in Jordan-block form to admit a compatible quasilinear differential constraint. Such condition is also sufficient for 2x2 systems and turns out to be equivalent to possess the Hamiltonian property. Some explicit solutions of parabolic systems are herein given: two principal hierarchies arising from the associativity theory and the delta-functional reduction of the El's equation in the hard rod case are integrated.

Solutions to the wave equation for commuting flows of dispersionless PDEs

Motivated by the viewpoint of integrable systems, we study commuting flows of 2-component quasilinear equations, reducing to investigate the solutions of the wave equation with non-constant speed. In this paper, we apply the reduction procedure of differential constraints to obtain a complete set of solutions of such an equation for some fixed velocities a^2(u,v). As a result, we present some examples of Hamiltonian integrable systems (as the shallow water equations) with relative symmetries, conserved quantities and solutions.
