A plethystic chain rule

We consider a derivation $\mathsf{D}$ on the ring $Λ$ of symmetric functions and investigate its combinatorial, algebraic and geometric properties. More precisely, we show that $\mathsf{D}$ restricts to a quasi-isometry, with respect to the Hall product, on the graded component of $Λ$ of each positive degree and provide a chain-rule formula with respect to the plethysm operation. Furthermore, we relate the geometry of the Schur functions supporting $\mathsf{D}(f)$, where $f\in Λ$ is an homogeneous symmetric function, to that of $f$.

Chern character of Schur bundles

Given a vector bundle $E$, we give an explicit formula to compute Chern classes of Schur bundles $\operatorname{S}^αE$ in terms of those of $E$.

Higher discriminants of vector bundles and Schur functors

We prove some closed formulas for the logarithmic Chern character of a locally free sheaf. The argument used is representation-theoretic and we connect these formulas with the actions of some Casimir elements of $\mathfrak{sl}_r$. As an application, we give a recipe to construct slope polystable modular bundles on hyper-Kähler manifolds from old ones.

Irreducible modules over finite simple Lie pseudoalgebras IV. Non-primitive pseudoalgebras

Let d \subset d' be finite-dimensional Lie algebras, H = U(d), H'=U(d') the corresponding universal enveloping algebras endowed with the cocommutative Hopf algebra structure. We show that if L is a primitive Lie pseudoalgebra over H then all finite irreducible L' = Cur_H^{H'} L-modules are of the form Cur_H^{H'} V, where V is an irreducible L-module, with a single class of exceptions. Indeed, when L = H(d, χ, ω), we introduce non current L'-modules that are obtained by modifying the current pseudoaction with an extra term depending on an element t \in \d' \setminus d, which must satisfy some technical conditions. This, along with results from [BDK1, BDK2, BDK3], completes the classification of finite irreducible modules of finite simple Lie pseudoalgebras over the universal enveloping algebra of a finite-dimensional Lie algebra.

Irreducible modules over finite simple Lie pseudoalgebras III. Primitive pseudoalgebras of type H

A Lie conformal algebra is an algebraic structure that encodes the singular part of the operator product expansion of chiral fields in conformal field theory. A Lie pseudoalgebra is a generalization of this structure, for which the algebra of polynomials k[\partial] in the indeterminate is replaced by the universal enveloping algebra U(d) of a finite-dimensional Lie algebra d over the base field k. The finite (i.e., finitely generated over U(d)) simple Lie pseudoalgebras were classified in our 2001 paper [BDK]. The complete list consists of primitive Lie pseudoalgebras of type W, S, H, and K, and of current Lie pseudoalgebras over them or over simple finite-dimensional Lie algebras. The present paper is the third in our series on representation theory of simple Lie pseudoalgebras. In the first paper, we showed that any finite irreducible module over a primitive Lie pseudoalgebra of type W or S is either an irreducible tensor module or the image of the differential in a member of the pseudo de Rham complex. In the second paper, we established a similar result for primitive Lie pseudoalgebras of type K, with the pseudo de Rham complex replaced by a certain reduction, called the contact pseudo de Rham complex. This reduction in the context of contact geometry was discovered by M. Rumin [Rum]. In the present paper, we show that for primitive Lie pseudoalgebras of type H, a similar to type K result holds with the contact pseudo de Rham complex replaced by a suitable complex. However, the type H case in more involved, since the annihilation algebra is not the corresponding Lie-Cartan algebra, as in other cases, but an irreducible central extension. When the action of the center of the annihilation algebra is trivial, this complex is related to work by M. Eastwood [E] on conformally symplectic geometry, and we call it conformally symplectic pseudo de Rham complex.

Normal form in Hecke-Kiselman monoids associated with simple oriented graphs

We generalize Kudryavtseva and Mazorchuk's concept of canonical form of elements in Kiselman's semigroups to the setting of a Hecke-Kiselman monoid $\mathbf{HK}_Γ$ associated with a simple oriented graph $Γ$. We use confluence properties to associate with each element in $\mathbf{HK}_Γ$ a normal form; normal forms are not unique, and we show that they can be obtained from each other by a sequence of elementary commutations. We finally describe a general procedure to recover a (unique) lexicographically minimal normal form.

A New Framework for Centrality Measures in Multiplex Networks

The non-trivial structure of such complex systems makes the analysis of their collective behavior a challenge. The problem is even more difficult when the information is distributed across networks (e.g., communication networks in different media); in this case, it becomes impossible to have a complete, or even partial picture, if situations are analyzed separately within each network due to sparsity. A multiplex network is well-suited to model the complexity of this kind of systems by preserving the semantics associated with each network. Centrality measures are fundamental for the identification of key players, but existing approaches are typically designed to capture a predefined aspect of the system, ignoring or merging the semantics of the individual layers.

Polynomial growth of discrete quantum groups, topological dimension of the dual and *-regularity of the Fourier algebra

Banica and Vergnioux have shown that the dual discrete quantum group of a compact simply connected Lie group has polynomial growth of order the real manifold dimension. We extend this result to a general compact group and its topological dimension, by connecting it with the Gelfand-Kirillov dimension of an algebra. Furthermore, we show that polynomial growth for a compact quantum group G of Kac type implies *-regularity of the Fourier algebra A(G), that is every closed ideal of C(G) has a dense intersection with A(G). In particular, A(G) has a unique C*-norm.

A graph-dynamical interpretation of Kiselman's semigroups

A Sequential Dynamical System (SDS) is a quadruple (Γ, S_i,f_i,w) consisting of a (directed) graph Γ=(V,E), each of whose vertices i\in V is endowed with a finite set state S_i and an update function f_i: \prod_{j, i \to j} S_j \to S_i --- we call this structure an {\em update system} --- and a word w in the free monoid over V, specifying the order in which update functions are to be performed. Each word induces an evolution of the system and in this paper we are interested in the dynamics monoid, whose elements are all possible evolutions. When Γis a directed acyclic graph, the dynamics monoid of every update system supported on Γnaturally arises as a quotient of the Hecke-Kiselman monoid associated with Γ. In the special case where Γ= Γ_n is the complete oriented acyclic graph on n vertices, we exhibit an update system whose dynamics monoid coincides with Kiselman's semigroup K_n, thus showing that the defining Hecke-Kiselman relations are optimal in this situation. We then speculate on how these results may extend to the general acyclic case.

Finiteness and orbifold Vertex Operator Algebras

In this paper, I investigate the ascending chain condition of right ideals in the case of vertex operator algebras satisfying a finiteness and/or a simplicity condition. Possible applications to the study of finiteness of orbifold VOAs is discussed.

Connected components of compact matrix quantum groups and finiteness conditions

We introduce the notion of identity component of a compact quantum group and that of total disconnectedness. As a drawback of the generalized Burnside problem, we note that totally disconnected compact matrix quantum groups may fail to be profinite. We consider the problem of approximating the identity component as well as the maximal normal (in the sense of Wang) connected subgroup by introducing canonical, but possibly transfinite, sequences of subgroups. These sequences have a trivial behaviour in the classical case. We give examples, arising as free products, where the identity component is not normal and the associated sequence has length 1. We give necessary and sufficient conditions for normality of the identity component and finiteness or profiniteness of the quantum component group. Among them, we introduce an ascending chain condition on the representation ring, called Lie property, which characterizes Lie groups in the commutative case and reduces to group Noetherianity of the dual in the cocommutative case. It is weaker than ring Noetherianity but ensures existence of a generating representation. The Lie property and ring Noetherianity are inherited by quotient quantum groups. We show that A_u(F) is not of Lie type. We discuss an example arising from the compact real form of U_q(sl_2) for q<0.

A root space decomposition for finite vertex algebras

Let L be a Lie pseudoalgebra, a in L. We show that, if a generates a (finite) solvable subalgebra S= , then one may find a lifting a' in S of [a] in S/S' such that is nilpotent. We then apply this result towards vertex algebras: we show that every finite vertex algebra V admits a decomposition into a semi-direct product V = U + N, where U is a subalgebra of V whose underlying Lie conformal algebra U^lie is a nilpotent self-normalizing subalgebra of V^lie, and N is a canonically determined ideal contained in the nilradical Nil V.

Characterization of system signatures

We suggest a purely combinatorial approach to a general problem in system reliability. We show how to determine if a given vector can be the signature of a system, and in the affirmative case exhibit such a system in terms on its structure function. The method employs results from the theory of simplicial sets, and provides a full characterization of signature vectors.

Hecke-Kiselman Monoids of Small Cardinality

In this paper, we give a characterization of digraphs $Q, |Q|\leq 4$ such that the associated Hecke-Kiselman monoid $H_Q$ is finite. In general, a necessary condition for $H_Q$ to be a finite monoid is that $Q$ is acyclic and its Coxeter components are Dynkin diagram. We show, by constructing examples, that such conditions are not sufficient.

Irreducible Modules over Finite Simple Lie Pseudoalgebras II. Primitive Pseudoalgebras of Type K

One of the algebraic structures that has emerged recently in the study of the operator product expansions of chiral fields in conformal field theory is that of a Lie conformal algebra. A Lie pseudoalgebra is a generalization of the notion of a Lie conformal algebra for which C[\partial] is replaced by the universal enveloping algebra H of a finite-dimensional Lie algebra. The finite (i.e., finitely generated over H) simple Lie pseudoalgebras were classified in our previous work. The present paper is the second in our series on representation theory of simple Lie pseudoalgebras. In the first paper we showed that any finite irreducible module over a simple Lie pseudoalgebra of type W or S is either an irreducible tensor module or the kernel of the differential in a member of the pseudo de Rham complex. In the present paper we establish a similar result for Lie pseudoalgebras of type K, with the pseudo de Rham complex replaced by a certain reduction called the contact pseudo de Rham complex. This reduction in the context of contact geometry was discovered by Rumin.
