The growth of $SO(9)$ super-representations in Type II string theory

We study the growth of massive $SO(9)$ super-representations in type II and type I string theories. We do this first directly by finding an empirical formula that specifies which representations appear at any level, and then compute the multiplicities from a refined partition function evaluated over finite fields up to level 501 for individual representations, and level 226 for all representations. We then derive asymptotic formulae for the growth of any representation, which are constructed by integrating about the peaks of the refined partition function. Using a Rademacher sum we can find very accurate approximations for the multiplicities of the representations. Unlike the superstring partition function, which only receives contributions from the odd Rademacher terms, the multiplicities for any representation have contributions from both even and odd terms. Finally, we apply the same techniques to the ordinary representations, where a simplified refined partition function allows for better computational speed and simpler expressions for the asymptotic approximations.

Two-point functions in $4-2\,\varepsilon$ dimensions from localization

We study two-point functions of half-BPS operators in maximally supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory continued to $d=4-2\,\varepsilon$ dimensions. Using supersymmetric localization on $S^d$, we derive perturbative matrix-model expressions for the $\varepsilon$-expansion of these correlators and obtain all-loop results at leading order in $\varepsilon$ in the planar limit, with extensions to finite-$N$ corrections and higher-charge operators. We compare the localization results with direct perturbative computations in flat space. At order $\varepsilon$ the two descriptions agree perfectly, while at higher orders our construction fails to reproduce the perturbative data due to the breaking of conformal symmetry away from four dimensions. Nevertheless, in the case of the dimension-two operator we conjecture an all-loop formula at order $\varepsilon^2$ by exploiting the precise form of the mismatch.

Pseudo-Evanescent Feynman Integrals from Local Subtraction

We introduce a new approach for the computation of the class of Feynman integrals whose integrands vanish in strictly four-dimensions, so-called ''pseudo-evanescent'' integrals. We argue that, up to $\mathcal{O}(\epsilon)$ corrections, local subtraction techniques can be used to express pseudo-evanescent integrals in terms of contributions from infrared and ultraviolet regions of loop-momentum space. We study two-loop examples and find that many pseudo-evanescent Feynman integrals are reduced to either products of one-loop integrals or one-fold integrals thereof. As a demonstration of the power of our approach, we use it to recompute the two-loop all-plus five-point amplitude. We find that, up to scheme-dependent logarithms, all contributions from soft and collinear regions cancel exactly against known infrared structure and that the finite remainder is entirely given by contributions from ultraviolet regions.

Tension between string amplitude prescriptions with presumed spacetime supersymmetry

We analyze an alternative prescription for computing tree level scattering amplitudes in the pure spinor superstring. Proposed by Berkovits, and inspired by an earlier work by Lee and Siegel, it bypasses the traditional ghost number three measure of the pure spinor ghosts, $\langle\lambda^3 \theta^5\rangle$=1, arguably simplifying the calculation. However, direct computations using the free field OPEs of the target superspace CFT fail to reproduce the expected $\textrm{SL}(2,\mathbb{C})$ invariance of tree level correlators. This persistent mismatch, confirmed through independent methods, is not compatible with the gauge invariance of the amplitude. We also discuss possible implications for the B-RNS-GSS formalism of the superstring.

Nonlinear Gravitational Memory in the Post-Minkowskian Expansion

We present the first computation of the nonlinear gravitational memory waveform for the scattering of two compact objects in General Relativity at leading order in the post-Minkowskian expansion. We use the scattering-amplitudes-based representation of the gravitational waveform, which naturally expresses the nonlinear memory as the contribution of soft gravitons emitted by the gravitational waves themselves. We perform the calculation by applying a multipolar decomposition to the waveform and using the reverse unitarity method to obtain explicit exact-in-velocity predictions. We validate the results by calculating the corresponding velocity-expanded post-Newtonian multipoles, finding perfect agreement. Our results complete the knowledge of the gauge-invariant non-analytic-in-frequency part of the $\mathcal{O}(G^3)$ multipolar waveform, thus providing a useful benchmark for future calculations of this quantity.

Cross-Section Bootstrap: Unveiling the Froissart Amplitude

We derive a universal bound on the integrated total scattering cross-section at \emph{finite} energies, expressed in terms of a single low-energy coefficient constrained by the non-perturbative S-matrix Bootstrap. At high energies, the bound is compared with proton-proton scattering data; at low energies, with numerical bootstrap results obtained by directly maximizing the cross-section. We conjecture that the amplitude saturating the cross-section at high energies lies at a strongly-coupled corner of the allowed space of low-energy parameters. This universal amplitude exhibits a rising total cross-section, a shrinking elastic differential cross-section with multiple diffractive minima, and a surprisingly rich spectrum of resonances aligning along Regge trajectories, including Pomeron-like and daughter trajectories, as well as unusual ``singular" trajectories in the forward limit which appear deeply interconnected with Froissart growth. Remarkably, the eikonal representation reveals that the scattering is localized within an annular region that slowly expands with energy, challenging the traditional ``disk" diffraction picture. Our results open the door to theoretical and phenomenological studies of \emph{soft} high-energy hadronic scattering via the S-matrix Bootstrap.

Exploring Structure Constants in Planar $\mathcal{N} = 4$ SYM: From Small Spin to Strong Coupling

We study the structure constants of two conformal primary operators and one spinning operator in planar $\mathcal{N} = 4$ Super-Yang-Mills theory using the hexagon formalism. By analytically continuing in the spin, we derive a formula for computing these structure constants at any coupling in the small-spin limit, up to a normalization factor. This formula allows us to explore their analytical properties at strong coupling. In this regime, using classical string calculations and a suitable ansatz, we extend our analysis to finite-spin operators, verifying recent two-loop results for structure constants in string theory and generalizing them to operators with arbitrary R-charges.

Post-Newtonian Multipoles from the Next-to-Leading Post-Minkowskian Gravitational Waveform

We consider the frequency-domain LO and NLO post-Minkowskian (PM) waveforms obtained from the tree-level and one-loop amplitudes describing the scattering of two massive scalar objects and the emission of one graviton. We explicitly calculate their post-Newtonian (PN) limit obtaining an expansion up to the third subleading PN order in all ingredients: the tree-level amplitude, the odd and even parts of the real one-loop kernel, and the Compton or "rescattering" cuts, thus reaching 3PN precision for the latter. We provide explicit expressions for the multipole decomposition of these results in the center-of-mass frame and compare them with the results obtained from the classical Multipolar post-Minkowskian (MPM) method. We find perfect agreement between the two, once the BMS supertranslation frame is properly adjusted and the infrared divergences due to rescattering are suitably subtracted in dimensional regularization. This shows that the approach proposed in arXiv:2312.07452 can be applied beyond the soft-regime ensuring the agreement between amplitude-based and MPM results for generic frequencies.

More on the Subleading Gravitational Waveform

In this short note, we address the calculation of the contribution to the one-loop gravitational waveform arising from the difference of the unitarity cuts associated to the $s$- and $s'$-channels recently pointed out in arXiv:2308.02125, providing its explicit expression for minimally-coupled massive scalars in momentum space.

An eikonal-inspired approach to the gravitational scattering waveform

We revisit the amplitude-based derivation of gravitational waveform for the scattering of two scalar black holes at subleading post-Minkowskian (PM) order. We take an eikonal-inspired approach to the two-massive-particle cut needed in the KMOC framework, as highlighted in arXiv:2308.02125, and show that its effect is to implement a simple change of frame. This clarifies one of the points raised in arXiv:2309.14925 when comparing with the post-Newtonian (PN) results. We then provide an explicit PM expression for the waveform in the soft limit, $\omega\to0$, including the first non-universal, $\omega\log\omega$, contribution. Focusing on this regime, we show that the small-velocity limit of our result agrees with the soft limit of the PN waveform of arXiv:2309.14925, provided that the two quantities are written in the same asymptotic frame. Performing the BMS supertranslation that, as discussed in arXiv:2201.11607, is responsible for the $\mathcal O(G)$ static contribution to the asymptotic field employed in the PN literature, we find agreement between the amplitude-based and the PN soft waveform up to and including $G^3/c^5$ order.

The O(N) Monolith reloaded: Sum rules and Form Factor Bootstrap

We revisit the space of gapped quantum field theories with a global O(N) symmetry in two spacetime dimensions. Previous works using S-matrix bootstrap revealed a rich space in which integrable theories such as the non-linear sigma model appear at special points on the boundary, along with an abundance of unknown models hinting at a non conventional UV behaviour. We extend the S-matrix set-up by including into the bootstrap form factors and spectral functions for the stress-energy tensor and conserved O(N) currents. Sum rules allow us to put bounds on the central charges of the conformal field theory (CFT) in the UV. We find that a big portion of the boundary can only flow from CFTs with infinite central charges. We track this result down to a particular behaviour of the amplitudes in physical kinematics and discuss its physical implications.

Inelastic Exponentiation and Classical Gravitational Scattering at One Loop

We calculate the inelastic $2\to3$ one-loop amplitude for the scattering of two point-like, spinless objects with generic masses involving the additional emission of a single graviton. We focus on the near-forward, or classical, limit. Our results include the leading and subleading orders in the soft-region expansion, which captures all non-analytic contributions in the transferred momentum and in the graviton's frequency. This allows us to check the first constraint arising from the inelastic exponentiation put forward in Refs. 2107.12891, 2112.07556, 2210.12118 and to calculate the $2\to3$ one-loop matrix element of the $N$-operator, linked to the $S$-matrix by $S = e^{iN}$, showing that it is real, classical and free of infrared divergences. We discuss how our results feature in the calculation of the $\mathcal O(G^3)$ corrections to the asymptotic waveform.

Structure constants of short operators in planar $\mathcal{N}=4$ SYM theory

We present an integrability-based conjecture for the three-point functions of single-trace operators in planar $\mathcal{N}=4$ super-Yang-Mills theory at finite coupling, in the case where two operators are protected. Our proposal is based on the hexagon representation for structure constants of long operators, which we complete to incorporate operators of any length using data from the TBA/QSC formalism. We perform various tests of our conjecture, at weak and strong coupling, finding agreement with the gauge theory through 5 loops for the shortest three-point function and with string theory in the classical limit.

All loop structures in Supergravity Amplitudes on $AdS_5 \times S^5$ from CFT

We computed a set of structures which appear in the four-point function of protected operators of dimension two in $\mathcal{N}=4$ Super Yang Mills with $SU(N)$ gauge group, at any order in a large $N$ expansion. They are determined only by leading order CFT data. By focusing on a specific limit, we made connection with the dual supergravity amplitude in flat space, where such structures correspond to iterated $s$-cuts. We made several checks and we conjecture that the same interpretation holds for supergravity amplitudes on $AdS_5 \times S^5$.

Glue-and-Cut at Five Loops

We compute epsilon-expansions around 4 dimensions of a complete set of master integrals for momentum space five-loop massless propagator integrals in dimensional regularization, up to and including the first order with contributions of transcendental weight nine. Our method is the glue-and-cut technique from Baikov and Chetyrkin, which proves extremely effective in that it determines all expansion coefficients to this order in terms of recursively one-loop integrals and only one further integral. We observe that our results are compatible with conjectures that predict $π$-dependent contributions.

All five-loop planar four-point functions of half-BPS operators in $\mathcal N=4$ SYM

We obtain all planar four-point correlators of half-BPS operators in $\mathcal{N}=4$ SYM up to five loops. The ansatz for the integrand is fixed partially by imposing light-cone OPE relations between different correlators. We then fix the integrated correlators by comparing their asymptotic expansions with simple data obtained from integrability. We extract OPE coefficients and find a prediction for the triple wrapping correction of the hexagon form factors, which contributes already at the five-loop order.

Module Intersection for the Integration-by-Parts Reduction of Multi-Loop Feynman Integrals

In this manuscript, which is to appear in the proceedings of the conference "MathemAmplitude 2019" in Padova, Italy, we provide an overview of the module intersection method for the the integration-by-parts (IBP) reduction of multi-loop Feynman integrals. The module intersection method, based on computational algebraic geometry, is a highly efficient way of getting IBP relations without double propagator or with a bound on the highest propagator degree. In this manner, trimmed IBP systems which are much shorter than the traditional ones can be obtained. We apply the modern, Petri net based, workflow management system GPI-Space in combination with the computer algebra system Singular to solve the trimmed IBP system via interpolation and efficient parallelization. We show, in particular, how to use the new plugin feature of GPI-Space to manage a global state of the computation and to efficiently handle mutable data. Moreover, a Mathematica interface to generate IBPs with restricted propagator degree, which is based on module intersection, is presented in this review.

Integration-by-parts reductions of Feynman integrals using Singular and GPI-Space

We introduce an algebro-geometrically motived integration-by-parts (IBP) reduction method for multi-loop and multi-scale Feynman integrals, using a framework for massively parallel computations in computer algebra. This framework combines the computer algebra system Singular with the workflow management system GPI-Space, which is being developed at the Fraunhofer Institute for Industrial Mathematics (ITWM). In our approach, the IBP relations are first trimmed by modern algebraic geometry tools and then solved by sparse linear algebra and our new interpolation methods. These steps are efficiently automatized and automatically parallelized by modeling the algorithm in GPI-Space using the language of Petri-nets. We demonstrate the potential of our method at the nontrivial example of reducing two-loop five-point nonplanar double-pentagon integrals. We also use GPI-Space to convert the basis of IBP reductions, and discuss the possible simplification of IBP coefficients in a uniformly transcendental basis.
