Fluctuations of Matrix Entries of Regular Functions of Wigner Matrices

We study the fluctuations of the matrix entries of regular functions of Wigner random matrices in the limit when the matrix size goes to infinity. In the case of the Gaussian ensembles (GOE and GUE) this problem was considered by A.Lytova and L.Pastur in J. Stat. Phys., v.134, 147-159 (2009). Our results are valid provided the off-diagonal matrix entries have finite fourth moment, the diagonal matrix entries have finite second moment, and the test functions have four continuous derivatives in a neighborhood of the support of the Wigner semicircle law.

On Finite Rank Deformations of Wigner Matrices

We study the distribution of the outliers in the spectrum of finite rank deformations of Wigner random matrice under the assumption that the off-diagonal matrix entries have uniformly bounded fifth moment and the diagonal entries have uniformly bounded third moment. Using our recent results on the fluctuation of resolvent entries [31],[28], and ideas from [9], we extend results by M.Capitaine, C.Donati-Martin, and D.Féral [12], [13].

Ionization of Atoms by Intense Laser Pulses

The process of ionization of a hydrogen atom by a short infrared laser pulse is studied in the regime of very large pulse intensity, in the dipole approximation. Let $A$ denote the integral of the electric field of the pulse over time at the location of the atomic nucleus. It is shown that, in the limit where $|A| \to \infty$, the ionization probability approaches unity and the electron is ejected into a cone opening in the direction of $-A$ and of arbitrarily small opening angle. Asymptotics of various physical quantities in $|A|^{-1}$ is studied carefully. Our results are in qualitative agreement with experimental data reported in \cite{1,2}.

Renormalized Electron Mass in Nonrelativistic QED

Within the framework of nonrelativistic QED, we prove that, for small values of the coupling constant, the energy function, E_|P|, of a dressed electron is twice differentiable in the momentum P in a neighborhood of P = 0. Furthermore, (E_|P|)" is bounded from below by a constant larger than zero. Our results are proven with the help of iterative analytic perturbation theory.

Infraparticle Scattering States in Non-Relativistic QED: I. The Bloch-Nordsieck Paradigm

We construct infraparticle scattering states for Compton scattering in the standard model of non-relativistic QED. In our construction, an infrared cutoff initially introduced to regularize the model is removed completely. We rigorously establish the properties of infraparticle scattering theory predicted in the classic work of Bloch and Nordsieck from the 1930's, Faddeev and Kulish, and others. Our results represent a basic step towards solving the infrared problem in (non-relativistic) QED.

Infraparticle Scattering States in Non-Relativistic QED: II. Mass Shell Properties

We study the infrared problem in the usual model of QED with non-relativistic matter. We prove spectral and regularity properties characterizing the mass shell of an electron and one-electron infraparticle states of this model. Our results are crucial for the construction of infraparticle scattering states, which are treated in a separate paper.
