Random entanglement percolation on realistic quantum networks

We study random entanglement percolation in heterogeneous quantum networks, where the singlet-conversion probabilities (SCPs) of the edges are drawn from a probability distribution rather than being fixed. After briefly recalling random classical and random quantum entanglement percolation, we focus on polarization-dependent loss (PDL) as a physical source of random edge entanglement in photonic networks. In this setting, polarization imbalance induces a simple map from the PDL magnitude to the edge SCP. We illustrate this map for representative PDL models and discuss the resulting implications for entanglement percolation.

Entanglement percolation in random quantum networks

Entanglement percolation aims at generating maximal entanglement between any two nodes of a quantum network by utilizing strategies based solely on local operations and classical communication between the nodes. As it happens in classical percolation theory, the topology of the network is crucial, but also the entanglement shared between the nodes of the network. In a network of identically partially entangled states, the network topology determines the minimum entanglement needed for percolation. In this work, we generalize the protocol to scenarios where the initial entanglement shared between any two nodes of the network is not the same but has some randomness. In such cases, we find that for classical entanglement percolation, only the average initial entanglement is relevant. In contrast, the quantum entanglement percolation protocol (within the q-swap framework) degrades under these more realistic conditions as the width of the distribution increases, suggesting that Random CEP may become the optimal LOCC strategy in sufficiently heterogeneous quantum networks.

Multipartite entanglement in the diagonal symmetric subspace

We investigate the entanglement properties in the symmetric subspace of $N$-partite $d$-dimensional systems (qudits). For diagonal symmetric states, we show that there is no bound entanglement for $d = 3,4 $ and $N = 3$. Further, we present a constructive algorithm to map multipartite diagonal symmetric states of qudits onto bipartite symmetric states of larger local dimension. This technique greatly simplifies the analysis of multipartite states and allows to infer entanglement properties for any even $N \geq 4 $ due to the fact that the PPT conditions that arise from the bipartite symmetric state correspond to the same PPT conditions that appear in the multipartite diagonal symmetric state.
