Measurement of the forward $η$ meson production rate in p-p collisions at $\sqrt{s}$=13 TeV with the LHCf-Arm2 detector

The forward $η$ mesons production has been observed by the Large Hadron Collider forward (LHCf) experiment in proton-proton collision at $\sqrt{s}$=13 TeV. This paper presents the measurement of the inclusive production rate of $η$ in $p_T<$ 1.1 GeV/c, expressed as a function of the Feynman-x variable. These results are compared with the predictions of several hadronic interaction models commonly used for the modelling of the air showers produced by ultra-high energy cosmic rays. This is both the first measurement of $η$ mesons from LHCf and the first time a particle containing strange quarks has been observed in the forward region for high-energy collisions. These results will provide a powerful constraint on hadronic interaction models for the purpose of improving the understanding of the processes underlying the air showers produced in the Earth's atmosphere by ultra-energetic cosmic rays.

Very Forward proton-proton interactions with the LHCf detector

The LHCf experiment has been designed to precisely measure very forward neutral particle spectra produced in proton-proton collisions at LHC up to an energy of 14 TeV in the center of mass system. These measurements are of fundamental importance to calibrate the Monte Carlo models widely used in the high energy cosmic ray (HECR) field, up to an equivalent laboratory energy of the order of 1017 eV. In 2009-2010 the experiment has completed the p-p data taking at sqrt{s} = 0.9 TeV and sqrt{s}=7 TeV and the detectors have later on been removed from the tunnel region, when the LHC luminosity increased above 1030 cm-2s-1. In this paper the most up-to-date results on the inclusive photon spectra and the pi0 spectra measured by LHCf are reported. Comparison of these spectra with the model expectations and the impact on high energy cosmic ray (HECR) Physics are discussed. In addition, perspectives for future analyses as well as the program for the next data taking period, in particular the foreseen data taking in p-Pb collisions, will be discussed.

Results from LHCf Experiment

The LHCf experiment has taken data in 2009 and 2010 p-p collisions at LHC at $\sqrt{s} = 0.9$ TeV and $\sqrt{s} = 7$ TeV. The measurement of the forward neutral particle spectra produced in proton-proton collisions at LHC up to an energy of 14 TeV in the center of mass system are of fundamental importance to calibrate the Monte Carlo models widely used in the high energy cosmic ray (HECR) field, up to an equivalent laboratory energy of the order of $10^{17}$ eV. In this paper the first results on the inclusive photon spectrum measured by LHCf is reported. Comparison of this spectrum with the model expectations show significant discrepancies, mainly in the high energy region. In addition, perspectives for future analyses as well as the program for the next data taking period, in particular the possibility to take data in p-Pb collisions, will be discussed.

Sparticle Reconstruction at LHC

In this report a review of recent studies made to understand the capability to discover and measure properties of SUSY particles at LHC is discussed. The expected resolution on sparticle masses is discussed on the basis of studies performed by the ATLAS and CMS collaborations.

Discovery potential of charged Higgs at LHC in H+- ->tau nu decays

The discovery potential of charged Higgs from pp->tH+- in the H+- -> tau nu decay channel is investigated in CMS and ATLAS. For m_H>m_t, the most relevant channels are H+- -> tb and H+- -> tau nu. Whereas the former has the largest branching ratio it suffers of large irreducible backgrounds, while the latter offers a very clean enviroment when appropriate cuts are used. Making use of the tau polarization effects, in the purely hadronic final states an almost background-free signal is selected. The expected discovery range is evaluated for CMS and ATLAS with 30 fb^-1 each in the low luminosity running conditions and the combined results are presented.
