Stochastic phase-space simulation of multimode cat states via the positive-P representation

We present a comprehensive study of the transient dynamics of multimode Schr\"odinger cat states in dissipatively coupled resonator arrays using the positive-P phase-space method. By employing the positive-P representation, we derive the exact stochastic differential equations governing the system's dynamics, enabling the simulation of system sizes significantly larger than those accessible via direct master equation simulation. We demonstrate the utility of this method by simulating transient dynamics for networks up to N=21 sites. Furthermore, we critically examine the method's usefulness and limitations, specifically highlighting the computational instability encountered when estimating the state parity in the systems. Our results provide a pathway for scalable simulations of non-Gaussian states in large open quantum systems.

Antibunching in locally driven dissipative Lieb lattices

In Lieb lattices, geometric frustration and destructive interference of hopping cancels the occupation of certain sites, leading to flat-band physics. Here, we show numerically how, in the driven-dissipative Bose-Hubbard (DDBH) model arranged into Lieb lattices and related geometries, specific localised driving schemes can repurpose this interference to generate enhanced antibunching via a mechanism similar to the so-called unconventional photon blockade. Stochastic simulations using the positive-P method allow us to calculate occupations and second order correlations exactly for extended lattices. We use this to optimise the parameters for the possible observation of this effect in polariton micropillar experiments. This work demonstrates the possibility of using localised driving and interference effects to generate non-trivial quantum correlations in open quantum lattice systems. Specifically, producing antibunching in the dark sites of the flat band system rather than the usual and less useful bunching.

Fully quantum scalable description of driven dissipative lattice models

Methods for modeling large driven dissipative quantum systems are becoming increasingly urgent due to recent experimental progress in a number of photonic platforms. We demonstrate the positive-P method to be ideal for this purpose across a wide range of parameters, focusing on the archetypal driven dissipative Bose-Hubbard model. Notably, these parameters include intermediate regimes where interactions and dissipation are comparable, and especially cases with low occupations for which common semiclassical approximations can break down. The presence of dissipation can alleviate instabilities in the method that are known to occur for closed systems, allowing the simulation of dynamics up to and including the steady state. Throughout the parameter space of the model, we determine the magnitude of dissipation that is sufficient to make the method useful and stable, finding its region of applicability to be complementary to that of truncated Wigner. We then demonstrate its use in a number of examples with nontrivial quantum correlations, including a demonstration of solving the urgent open problem of large and highly non-uniform systems with even tens of thousands of sites.
