Very general monomial valuations of $\mathbb{P}^2$ and a Nagata type conjecture

It is well known that multi-point Seshadri constants for a small number $s$ of points in the projective plane are submaximal. It is predicted by the Nagata conjecture that their values are maximal for $s\geq 9$ points. Tackling the problem in the language of valuations one can make sense of $s$ points for any positive real $s\geq 1$. We show somewhat surprisingly that a Nagata-type conjecture should be valid for $s\geq 8+1/36$ points and we compute explicitly all Seshadri constants (expressed here as the asymptotic maximal vanishing element) for $s\leq 7+1/9$.

An Elementary Approach to Containment Relations Between Symbolic and Ordinary Powers of Certain Monomial Ideals

The purpose of this note is to find an elemenary explanation of a surprising result of Ein--Lazarsfeld--Smith \cite{ELS} and Hochster--Huneke \cite{HH} on the containment between symbolic and ordinary powers of ideals in simple cases. This line of research has been very active ever since, see for instance \cites{BC,HaH,DST} and the references therein, by now the literature on this topic is quite extensive. By `elementary' we refer to arguments that among others do not make use of resolution of singularities and multiplier ideals nor tight closure methods. Let us quickly recall the statement \cite{ELS}: let $X$ be a smooth projective variety of dimension $n$, $S \subseteq O_X$ a non-zero sheaf of radical ideals with zero scheme $Z\subseteq X$; if every irreducible component of $Z$ has codimension at least $e$, then \[ S^{(me)}_Z \subseteq S^m_Z \] for all $m\geq 1$. Our goal is to reprove this assertion in the case of points in projective spaces (as asked in \cite{PAGII}*{Example 11.3.5}) without recurring to deep methods of algebraic geometry. Instead of working with subsets of projective space, we will concentrate on the affine cones over them; our aim hence becomes to understand symbolic and ordinary powers ideals of sets of line through the origin. We will end up reducing the general case to a study of the ideals \[ I_{2,n} =(x_ix_j\mid 1\leq i<j\leq n) \subseteq k[x_1,\dots,x_n] \] defining the union of coordinate axes in $Å^n_{k}$. We work over an arbitrary field $k$. Our main result is as follows. Let $Σ\subseteq P^{n-1}$ be a set of $n$ points not lying in a hyperplane. Then \[ S_Σ^{(\lceil (2-\frac{2}{n})m \rceil) } \subseteq S^m_Σ \] for all positive integers $m$. If $n=3$, then the same statement holds for three distinct points in arbitrary position.

Infinitesimal Newton-Okounkov bodies and jet separation

In this paper we explore the connection between asymptotic base loci and Newton-Okounkov bodies associated to infinitesimal flags. Analogously to the surface case, we obtain complete characterizations of augmented and restricted base loci. Interestingly enough, an integral part of the argument is a study of the relationship between certain simplices contained in Newton-Okoukov bodies and jet separation; our results also lead to a convex geometric description of moving Seshadri constants.

Vanishing sequences and Okounkov bodies

We define and study the vanishing sequence along a real valuation of sections of a line bundle on a projective variety. Building on previous work of the first author with Huayi Chen, we prove an equidistribution result for vanishing sequences of large powers of a big line bundle, and study the limit measure. In particular, the latter is described in terms of restricted volumes for divisorial valuations. We also show on an example that the associated concave function on the Okounkov body can be discontinuous at boundary points.

Local positivity of linear series on surfaces

We study asymptotic invariants of linear series on surfaces with the help of Newton-Okounkov polygons. Our primary aim is to understand local positivity of line bundles in terms of convex geometry. We work out characterizations of ample and nef line bundles in terms of their Newton-Okounkov bodies, treating the infinitesimal case as well. One of the main results is a description of moving Seshadri constants via infinitesimal Newton-Okounkov polygons. As an illustration of our ideas we reprove results of Ein-Lazarsfeld on Seshadri constants on surfaces.

On positivity and base loci of vector bundles

The aim of this note is to shed some light on the relationships among some notions of positivity for vector bundles that arose in recent decades. Our purpose is to study several of the positivity notions studied for vector bundles with some notions of asymptotic base loci that can be defined on the variety itself, rather than on the projectivization of the given vector bundle. We relate some of the different notions conjectured to be equivalent with the help of these base loci, and we show that these can help simplify the various relationships between the positivity properties present in the literature. In particular, we define augmented and restricted base loci $\mathbb{B}_+ (E)$ and $\mathbb{B}_- (E)$ of a vector bundle $E$ on the variety $X$, as generalizations of the corresponding notions studied extensively for line bundles. As it turns out, the asymptotic base loci defined here behave well with respect to the natural map induced by the projectivization of the vector bundle $E$.

Partial positivity: geometry and cohomology of q-ample line bundles

We give an overview of partial positivity conditions for line bundles, mostly from a cohomological point of view. Although the current work is to a large extent of expository nature, we present some minor improvements over the existing literature and a new result: a Kodaira-type vanishing theorem for effective q-ample Du Bois divisors and log canonical pairs.

Finite generation and geography of models

There are two main examples where a version of the Minimal Model Program can, at least conjecturally, be performed successfully: the first is the classical MMP associated to the canonical divisor, and the other is Mori Dream Spaces. In this paper we formulate a framework which generalises both of these examples. Starting from divisorial rings which are finitely generated, we determine precisely when we can run the MMP, and we show why finite generation alone is not sufficient to make the MMP work.

Okounkov bodies of finitely generated divisors

We show that the Okounkov body of a big divisor with finitely generated section ring is a rational simplex, for an appropriate choice of flag; furthermore, when the ambient variety is a surface, the same holds for every big divisor. Under somewhat more restrictive hypotheses, we also show that the corresponding semigroup is finitely generated.
