Angular Correlations in Gluon Production at High Energy

We present a general, model independent argument demonstrating that gluons produced in high energy hadronic collision are necessarily correlated in rapidity and also in the emission angle. The strength of the correlation depends on the process and on the structure/model of the colliding particles. In particular we argue that it is strongly affected (and underestimated) by factorized approximations frequently used to quantify the effect.

Inside looking out: probing JIMWLK with BFKL calculations

We investigate the relation between the eigenvalues and eigenfunctions of the BFKL and JIMWLK/KLWMIJ Hamiltonians. We show that the eigenvalues of the BFKL Hamiltonians are also {\it exact} eigenvalues of the KLWMIJ (and JIMWLK) Hamiltonian, albeit corresponding to possibly non normalizable eigenfunctions. The question whether a given eigenfunction of BFKL corresponds to a normalizable eigenfunction of KLWMIJ is rather complicated, except in some obvious cases, and requires independent investigation. As an example to illustrate this relation we concentrate on the color octet exchange in the framework of KLWMIJ Hamiltonian. We show that it corresponds to the reggeized gluon exchange of BFKL, and find first correction to the BFKL wave function, which has the meaning of the impact factor for shadowing correction to the reggeized gluon. We also show that the bootstrap condition in the KLWMIJ framework is satisfied automatically and does not carry any additional information to that contained in the second quantized structure of the KLWMIJ Hamiltonian. This is an example of how the bootstrap condition inherent in the t-channel unitarity, arises in the s-channel picture.

U_A(1) Anomaly at high temperature: the scalar-pseudoscalar splitting in QCD

We estimate the splitting between the spatial correlation lengths in the scalar and pseudoscalar channels in QCD at high temperature. The splitting is due to the contribution of the instanton/anti-instanton chains in the thermal ensemble, even though instanton contributions to thermodynamic quantities are suppressed. The splitting vanishes at asymptotically high temperatures as $ΔM/M\propto (Λ_{QCD}/T)^b$, where $b$ is the beta function coefficient.

QCD Reggeon Field Theory for every day: Pomeron loops included

We derive the evolution equation for hadronic scattering amplitude at high energy. Our derivation includes the nonlinear effects of finite partonic density in the hadronic wave function as well as the effect of multiple scatterings for scattering on dense hadronic target. It thus includes Pomeron loops. It is based on the evolution of the hadronic wave function derived in \cite{foam}. The kernel of the evolution equation defines the second quantized Hamiltonian of the QCD Reggeon Field Theory, $H_{RFT}$ beyond the limits considered so far. The two previously known limits of the evolution: dilute target (JIMWLK limit) and dilute projectile (KLWMIJ limit) are recovered directly from our final result. The Hamiltonian $H_{RFT}$ is applicable for the evolution of scattering amplitude for arbitrarily dense hadronic projectiles/targets - from "dipole-dipole" to "nucleus-nucleus" scattering processes.

Inclusive Gluon Production in the QCD Reggeon Field Theory: Pomeron Loops Included

We continue the study of hadronic scattering amplitudes at high energy by systematically including nonlinear effects of finite partonic density in hadronic wave function as well as the effects of multiple rescatterings in the scattering process. In this paper we derive expressions for a single inclusive gluon production amplitude and multigluon inclusive production amplitudes when the rapidities of all observed gluons are not very different. We show that at leading order these observables exhibit a semiclassical structure. Beyond the semiclassical result, we find that the gluon emission has some characteristic features different from the JIMWLK and KLWMIJ limits in that the gluons are not emitted independently in rapidity space, but have a correlated component with correlation length (in rapidity space) of order one. We demonstrate the consistency between this feature of the multigluon observables and the Hamiltonian of the QCD Reggeon Field Theory ($H_{RFT}$) derived in the companion paper \cite{rft}. We also show that the evolution of these observables with total rapidity of the process is generated by $H_{RFT}$ of \cite{rft}. We discuss whether this evolution is equivalent to evolution with $H_{JIMWLK}$ as far as this set of observables is concerned.

Eikonal but not: a complementary view of high energy evolution

The high energy evolution equations that describe the evolution of hadronic amplitudes with energy are derived assuming eikonal interaction of the evolved hadronic wave function with the target. In this note we remark that this derivation allows a different interpretation, whereby the hadronic wave function is not evolved, but instead the evolution acts on the S - matrix operator. In this approach, analogous to the Heisenberg picture of Quantum mechanics, the scattering is not eikonal and additional boost provides for radiation of more gluons in the final state.

From bubbles to foam: dilute to dense evolution of hadronic wave function at high energy

We derive the evolution of a hadronic light cone wave function with energy at weak coupling. Our derivation is valid both in the high and the low partonic density limit, and thus encompasses both the JIMWLK and the KLWMIJ evolution. The hadronic wave function is shown to evolve by the action of the Bogoliubov-type operator, which diagonalizes on the soft gluon sector the light-cone hamiltonian in the presence of an arbitrary valence charge density. We find explicitly the action of this operator on the soft as well as the valence degrees of freedom of the theory.

Odderon and seven Pomerons: QCD Reggeon field theory from JIMWLK evolution

We reinterpret the JIMWLK/KLWMIJ evolution equation as the QCD Reggeon field theory (RFT). The basic "quantum Reggeon field" in this theory is the unitary matrix $R$ which represents the single gluon scattering matrix. We discuss the peculiarities of the Hilbert space on which the RFT Hamiltonian acts. We develop a perturbative expansion in the RFT framework, and find several eigenstates of the zeroth order Hamiltonian. The zeroth order of this perturbation preserves the number of $s$ - channel gluons. The eigenstates have a natural interpretation in terms of the $t$ - channel exchanges. Studying the single $s$ - channel gluon sector we find the eigenstates which include the reggeized gluon and five other colored Reggeons. In the two ($s$ - channel) gluon sector we study only singlet color exchanges. We find five charge conjugation even states. The bound state of two reggeized gluons is the standard BFKL Pomeron. The intercepts of the other Pomerons in the large $N$ limit are $1+ω_P=1+2ω$ where $1+ω$ is the intercept of the BFKL Pomeron, but their coupling in perturbation theory is suppressed by at least $1/N^2$ relative to the double BFKL Pomeron exchange. For the $[27,27]$ Pomeron we find $ω_{[27,27]}=2ω+O(1/N)>2ω$. We also find three charge conjugation odd exchanges, one of which is the unit intercept Bartels-Lipatov-Vacca Odderon, while another one has an interecept greater than unity. We explain in what sense our calculation goes beyond the standard BFKL/BKP calculation. We make additional comments and discuss open questions in our approach.

One gluon, two gluon: multigluon production via high energy evolution

We develop an approach for calculating the inclusive multigluon production within the JIMWLK high energy evolution. We give a formal expression of multigluon cross section in terms of a generating functional for arbitrary number of gluons $n$. In the dipole limit the expression simplifies dramatically. We recover the previously known results for single and double gluon inclusive cross section and generalize those for arbitrary multigluon amplitude in terms of Feynman diagramms of Pomeron - like objects coupled to external rapidity dependent field $s(η)$. We confirm the conclusion that the AGK cutting rules in general are violated in multigluon production. However we present an argument to the effect that for doubly inclusive cross section the AGK diagramms give the leading contribution at high energy, while genuine violation only occurs for triple and higher inclusive gluon production. We discuss some general properties of our expressions and suggest a line of argument to simplify the approach further.

The Yin and Yang of High Energy Chromodynamics: Scattering in Black and White

We further discuss the QCD Reggeon field theory (RFT) as it emerges from the JIMWLK/KLWMIJ evolution equation and beyond. We give an explicit expression for the calculation of scattering amplitude in terms of the eigenstates of the RFT Hamiltonian. We point out that the spectrum of RFT is doubly degenerate, the degeneracy being related to the spontaneous breaking of the Dense-Dilute Duality symmetry of RFT. The degeneracy is between the "almost white" states (the Yang sector) which contain a small number of gluons, and "almost black" states (the Yin sector). The excitations above the Yang vacuum have natural interpretation in terms of gluons. Analogously the excitations above the Yin vacuum have natural interpretation as "holes" in the black disk - points at which an incoming gluon does not scatter with unit probability. We discuss in detail the spectrum of the "parton model approximation" to the KLWMIJ evolution introduced in our previous paper, and prove that it is explicitly selfdual. This allows us to find explicitly the counterpart hole states in this approximation. We also present an argument to the effect that the end point of the evolution for any physical state cannot be a "grey disk" but must necessarily be the "black disk" Yin vacuum state. Finally, we suggest an approximation scheme for including the Pomeron loop contribution to the evolution which requires only the solution of the JIMWLK/KLWMIJ Hamiltonian.

Magnetic monopoles in 4D: a perturbative calculation

We address the question of defining the second quantised monopole creation operator in the 3+1 dimensional Georgi-Glashow model, and calculating its expectation value in the confining phase. Our calculation is performed directly in the continuum theory within the framework of perturbation theory. We find that, although it is possible to define the "coherent state" operator M(x) that creates the Coulomb magnetic field, the dependence of this operator on the Dirac string does not disappear even in the nonabelian theory. This is due to the presence of the charged fields (W^{\pm}). We also set up the calculation of the expectation value of this operator in the confining phase and show that it is not singular along the Dirac string. We find that in the leading order of the perturbation theory the VEV vanishes as a power of the volume of the system. This is in accordance with our naive expectation. We expect that nonperturbative effects will introduce an effective infrared cutoff on the calculation making the VEV finite.

More Remarks on High Energy Evolution

We discuss several issues related to recent work on high energy evolution. In particular we show that the Hilbert space for action of the operator of the evolution can be conveniently defined by the space of weight functional introduced recently in \cite{kl4}. These weight functionals automatically implement the correct properties of the charge density correlators, thus eliminating the need in explicit introduction of the Wess Zumino term. We also discuss various aspects of Dense Dilute Duality in the toy dipole model.

Dense-Dilute Duality at work: dipoles of the target

We explore the properties of the QCD high energy evolution in the limit of a dilute target. Using the recently established property of selfduality of the evolution operator (hep-ph/0502119), we show how to properly define the target gluon and dipole creation operators in terms of dual Wilson lines (dual eikonal factors). We explain how to expand these operators in terms of the functional derivatives of the color charge density, in the situation when they act on the eikonal factors of the projectile partons. We explicitly calculate the expansion of the high energy evolution operator to fourth order in the functional derivatives. Our result is infrared and ultraviolet finite, but does not coincide with the formula given in hep-ph/0501088. We resolve this discrepancy by showing that the identification of the dipole creation and annihilation operators used in hep-ph/0501088 is incomplete, and provide the required corrections to these definitions. The use of the corrected operators in the calculational framework of hep-ph/0501088 reproduces our result. We also prove that there is no discrepancy between the expansion of the JIMWLK equation and the dualization of the expansion of the weak field limit.

High Energy Evolution - The Wave Function Point of View

These lectures discuss aspects of high energy evolution in QCD. This includes the derivation of the JIMWLK equation, basic physics of its solutions and recent work on inclusion of Pomeron loops. The entire discussion is given in the Hamiltonian framework which gives direct access to the evolution of hadronic wave function under Lorentz boost.

Particle Correlations in Saturated QCD Matter

We study quantitatively angular correlations in the two-particle spectrum produced by an energetic probe scattering off a dense hadronic target with sizeable saturation momentum. To this end, two parton inclusive cross sections for arbitrary projectiles with small color charge density are derived in the eikonal formalism. Our results are the following: For large momenta of the observed particles, the perturbative limit with characteristic back-to-back correlation is recovered. As the trigger momenta get closer to the saturation scale Q_s, the angular distribution broadens. When the momenta are significantly smaller than Q_s, the azimuthal distribution is broad but still peaked back-to-back. However, in a narrow momentum range (0.5 - 1.5) Q_s, we observe that the azimuthal correlation splits into a double peak with maxima displaced away from 180 degree. We argue that it is the soft multiple scattering physics that is responsible for the appearance of this shift in the angle of maximal correlation. We also point out that when the physical size of the projectile is particularly small, the double peak structure persists in a significantly wider range of final state momenta.

From target to projectile and back again: selfduality of high energy evolution

We prove that the complete kernel for the high energy evolution in QCD must be selfdual. The relevant duality transformation is formulated in precise mathematical terms and is shown to transform the charge density into the functional derivative with respect to the single-gluon scattering matrix. This transformation interchanges the high and the low density regimes. We demostrate that the original JIMWLK kernel, valid at large density is indeed dual to the low denisity limit of the complete kernel derived recently in hep-ph/0501198.

In pursuit of Pomeron loops: the JIMWLK equation and the Wess-Zumino term

We derive corrections to the JIMWLK equation in the regime where the charge density in the hadronic wave function is small. We show that the framework of the JIMWLK equation has to be significantly modified at small densities in order to properly account for the noncommutativity of the charge density operators. In particular the weight function for the calculation of averages can not be real, but is shown to contain the Wess-Zumino term. The corrections to the kernel of the JIMWLK evolution which are leading at small density are resummed into a path ordered exponential of the functional derivative with respect to the charge density operator, thus hinting at intriguing duality between the high and the low density regimes.
