Anomalous tqV couplings and FCNC top quark production

We discuss FCNC top quark production via anomalous tqV couplings at the Tevatron and HERA colliders. We calculate higher-order soft-gluon corrections to such processes and demonstrate the stabilization of the cross section when these corrections are included.

SUSY Normal Scalar Mass Hierarchy Reconciles (g-2), b->s,gamma and Relic Density

Recent experimental and theoretical determinations of (g-2)_muon, Omega*h^2 and BF(b->s,gamma) place exceedingly tight constraints on the minimal supergravity (mSUGRA) model. We advocate relaxing the generational universality of mSUGRA, so that GUT scale third generation scalar masses are greater than the (degenerate) first and second generation scalar masses (a normal scalar mass hierarchy (NMH)). The non-degeneracy allows for a reconciliation of all the above constraints, and also respects FCNC limits from B_d-B_dbar mixing and b -> s,gamma. The NMH SUGRA model leads to the prediction of relatively light first and second generation sleptons. This yields large rates for multilepton collider signatures at the CERN LHC and also possibly at the Fermilab Tevatron. The spectrum of light sleptons should be accessible to a sqrt{s}=0.5-1TeV linear e^+e^-$ collider.

Linear Collider Capabilities for Supersymmetry in Dark Matter Allowed Regions of the mSUGRA Model

Recent comparisons of minimal supergravity (mSUGRA) model predictions with WMAP measurements of the neutralino relic density point to preferred regions of model parameter space. We investigate the reach of linear colliders (LC) with $\sqrt{s}=0.5$ and 1 TeV for SUSY in the framework of the mSUGRA model. We find that LCs can cover the entire stau co-annihilation region provided $\tanβ\alt 30$. In the hyperbolic branch/focus point (HB/FP) region of parameter space, specialized cuts are suggested to increase the reach in this important ``dark matter allowed'' area. In the case of the HB/FP region, the reach of a LC extends well past the reach of the CERN LHC. We examine a case study in the HB/FP region, and show that the MSSM parameters $μ$ and $M_2$ can be sufficiently well-measured to demonstrate that one would indeed be in the HB/FP region, where the lightest chargino and neutralino have a substantial higgsino component.

FCNC top quark production via anomalous tqV couplings beyond leading order

We calculate flavor-changing neutral-current (FCNC) processes involving top-quark production via anomalous tqV couplings at the Tevatron and HERA colliders. We cover the FCNC processes p pbar -> t Z, p pbar -> t gamma, p pbar -> t t, and e p -> e t. We go beyond leading order and include the effects of soft-gluon corrections through next-to-next-to-leading order. We demonstrate the stabilisation of the cross section with respect to the variation of QCD scale, and we investigate the reach of the Tevatron and HERA colliders.

Direct Detection of Dark Matter in Supersymmetric Models

We evaluate neutralino-nucleon scattering rates in several well-motivated supersymmetric models, and compare against constraints on the neutralino relic density, BF( b\to sγ) as well as the muon anomalous magnetic moment a_μ. In the mSUGRA model, the indirect constraints favor the hyperbolic branch/focus point (HB/FP) region of parameter space, and in fact this region is just where neutralino-nucleon scattering rates are high enough to be detected in direct dark matter search experiments! In Yukawa unified SUSY SO(10) models with scalar mass non-universality, the relic density of neutralinos is almost always above experimental bounds, while the corresponding direct detection rates are below experimental levels. Conversely, in five dimensional SO(10) models where gauge symmetry breaking is the result of compactification of the extra dimension, and supersymmetry breaking is communicated via gaugino mediation, the relic density is quite low, while direct detection rates can be substantial.

gg-->H-->tau tau at the Upgraded Fermilab Tevatron

We study the neutral Higgs boson production via the gluon fusion process with the $\tautau$ final state at the upgraded Fermilab Tevatron, including a complete simulation of signal channels and leading background processes. For the SM Higgs boson, this $h\to \tautau$ channel may provide important addition for the Higgs boson discovery in the mass range 120-140 GeV. In minimal supersymmetric models, natural enhancement for the signal rate over the SM expectation makes the $h,H,A\to \tautau$ signal observable for large $\tanβ$ and low $M_A$, which may lead to full coverage for SUSY Higgs parameters at the Tevatron with a moderate integrated luminosity.

Updated Reach of the CERN LHC and Constraints from Relic Density, b->s gamma and a(mu) in the mSUGRA Model

{We present an updated assessment of the reach of the CERN LHC pp collider for supersymmetric matter in the context of the minimal supergravity (mSUGRA) model. In addition to previously examined channels, we also include signals with an isolated photon or with a leptonically decaying Z boson. For an integrated luminosity of 100 fb^{-1}, values of m_{1/2}\sim 1400 GeV can be probed for small m_0, corresponding to a gluino mass of m_{\tg}\sim 3 TeV. For large m_0, in the hyperbolic branch/focus point region, m_{1/2}\sim 700 GeV can be probed, corresponding to m_{\tg}\sim 1800 GeV. We also map out parameter space regions preferred by the measured values of the dark matter relic density, the b\to sγdecay rate, and the muon anomalous magnetic moment a_μ, and discuss how SUSY might reveal itself in these regions. We find the CERN LHC can probe the entire stau co-annihilation region and also most of the heavy Higgs annihilation funnel allowed by WMAP data, except for some range of large m_0 and m_{1/2} if \tanβ\agt 50.

Relic density of neutralinos in minimal supergravity

We evaluate the relic density of neutralinos in the minimal supergravity (mSUGRA) model. All 2->2 neutralino annihilation diagrams, as well as all initial states involving sleptons, charginos, neutralinos and third generation squarks are included. Relativistic thermal averaging of the velocity times cross sections is performed. We find that co-annihilation effects are only important on the edges of the model parameter space, where some amount of fine-tuning is necessary to obtain a reasonable relic density. Alternatively, at high tan(beta), annihilation through the broad Higgs resonances gives rise to an acceptable neutralino relic density over broad regions of parameter space where little or no fine-tuning is needed.

Supersymmetric effects on heavy charged Higgs boson production in hadron colliders

The production of a heavy supersymmetric charged Higgs boson (M_{H^{\pm}}> 200 GeV) at the Tevatron and at the LHC is studied. We include the leading one-loop quantum effects within the MSSM in the relevant high \tanβregion. Whereas the chances for the Tevatron are limited, and critically depend on the size of the unknown NLO QCD effects, at the LHC the discovery range is more comfortable and may extend the reach above M_{H^{\pm}}= 1 TeV.

pp -> ttH, H->tau tau: toward a model independent determination of the Higgs boson couplings at the LHC

The possibility of detecting a Higgs boson through several production and decay channels is instrumental to the measurement of its couplings. In this paper we study the pp-> ttH(H-> tau tau) channel at the LHC, for the case of a scalar Higgs boson, and use the obtained results to improve on existing strategies toward a model independent determination of the Higgs boson couplings. The case of a scalar Higgs boson with mass below 140 GeV looks particularly promising.

Prospects for heavy supersymmetric charged Higgs boson searches at hadron colliders

We investigate the production of a heavy charged Higgs boson at hadron colliders within the context of the MSSM. A detailed study is performed for all important production modes and basic background processes for the t\bar{t}b\bar{b} signature. In our analysis we include effects of initial and final state showering, hadronization, and principal detector effects. For the signal production rate we include the leading SUSY quantum effects at high \tanβ>~ mt/mb. Based on the obtained efficiencies for the signal and background we estimate the discovery and exclusion mass limits of the charged Higgs boson at high values of \tanβ. At the upgraded Tevatron the discovery of a heavy charged Higgs boson (MH^+ >~ 200 GeV) is impossible for the tree-level cross-section values. However, if QCD and SUSY effects happen to reinforce mutually, there are indeed regions of the MSSM parameter space which could provide 3σevidence and, at best, 5σcharged Higgs boson discovery at the Tevatron for masses M_H^+<~ 300 GeV and M_H^+<~ 250 GeV, respectively, even assuming squark and gluino masses in the (500-1000) GeV range. On the other hand, at the LHC one can discover a H^+ as heavy as 1 TeV at the canonical confidence level of 5σ; or else exclude its existence at 95% C.L. up to masses ~ 1.5 TeV. Again the presence of SUSY quantum effects can be very important here as they may shift the LHC limits by a few hundred GeV.

Neutralino relic density in minimal supergravity with co-annihilations

We evaluate the relic density of neutralinos in the minimal supergravity (mSUGRA) model. All 2-->2 neutralino annihilation diagrams, as well as all processes involving sleptons, charginos, neutralinos and third generation squarks are included. Relativistic thermal averaging of the velocity times cross sections is performed. We find that co-annihilation effects are only important on the edges of the model parameter space, where some amount of fine-tuning is necessary to obtain a reasonable relic density. Alternatively, at high tan(beta), annihilation through very broad Higgs resonances gives rise to an acceptable neutralino relic density over broad regions of parameter space where little or no fine-tuning is needed. Finally, we compare our results against the reach of various e+e- and hadron colliders for supersymmetric matter.

Associated neutralino-neutralino-photon production at NLC

We study the potential of an $e^+e^-$ linear collider to search for neutralino-neutralino-photon production. Our analysis shows that this signal is not viable under realistic expectations for electron beam polarization due to large Standard Model backgrounds. Such a search would be possible only if beam polarizations of near 100% could be achieved.

The Reach of the Fermilab Tevatron and CERN LHC for Gaugino Mediated SUSY Breaking Models

In supersymmetric models with gaugino mediated SUSY breaking (inoMSB), it is assumed that SUSY breaking on a hidden brane is communicated to the visible brane via gauge superfields which propagate in the bulk. This leads to GUT models where the common gaugino mass $m_{1/2}$ is the only soft SUSY breaking term to receive contributions at tree level. To obtain a viable phenomenology, it is assumed that the gaugino mass is induced at some scale $M_c$ beyond the GUT scale, and that additional renormalization group running takes place between $M_c$ and $M_{GUT}$ as in a SUSY GUT. We assume an SU(5) SUSY GUT above the GUT scale, and compute the SUSY particle spectrum expected in models with inoMSB. We use the Monte Carlo program ISAJET to simulate signals within the inoMSB model, and compute the SUSY reach including cuts and triggers approriate to Fermilab Tevatron and CERN LHC experiments. We find no reach for SUSY by the Tevatron collider in the trilepton channel. %either with or without %identified tau leptons. At the CERN LHC, values of $m_{1/2}=1000$ (1160) GeV can be probed with 10 (100) fb$^{-1}$ of integrated luminosity, corresponding to a reach in terms of $m_{\tg}$ of 2150 (2500) GeV. The inoMSB model and mSUGRA can likely only be differentiated at a linear $e^+e^-$ collider with sufficient energy to produce sleptons and charginos.

Prospects for supersymmetric charged Higgs boson discovery at the Tevatron and the LHC

We investigate the prospects for heavy charged Higgs boson production through the mechanisms pp-bar(pp)->tbH+ +X at the upgraded Fermilab Tevatron and at the upcoming LHC collider at CERN respectively. We focus on the MSSM case at high values of tan[beta]> m_top/m_bot and include the leading SUSY quantum corrections. A detailed study is performed for all important production modes and basic background processes for the "ttbb" signature. At the upgraded Tevatron a charged Higgs signal is potentially viable in the 220-250 GeV range or excluded at 95%CL up to 300 GeV. At the LHC, a H+ of mass up to 800 GeV can be discovered at 5 sigma or else be excluded up to a mass of ~ 1.5 TeV. The presence ofSUSY quantum effects may highly influence the discovery potential in both machines and can typically shift these limits by 200 GeV at the LHC.

Three-body Supersymmetric Top Decays

We discuss three-body supersymmetric top decays, in schemes both with and without R-parity conservation, assuming that sfermion masses are larger than m_t. We find that MSSM top decays into chargino/neutralino pairs have a strong kinematic suppression in the region of the supersymmetric parameter space consistent with the LEP limits, with a decay width =< 10^{-5} GeV. MSSM top decays into neutralino pairs have less kinematical suppression, but require a flavour-changing vertex, and are likely to have a smaller rate. On the other hand, R-violating decays to single charginos, neutralinos and conventional fermions can be larger for values of the R-violating couplings still permitted by other upper limits. The cascade decays of the charginos and neutralinos may lead to spectacular signals with explicit lepton-number violation, such as like-sign lepton events.

Tevatron Potential for Technicolor Search with Prompt Photons

We perform a detailed study of the process of single color octet isoscalar $η_T$ production at the Tevatron with $η_T \to γ+ g$ decay signature, including a complete simulation of signal and background processes. We determined a set of optimal cuts from an analysis of the various kinematical distributions for the signal and backgrounds. As a result we show the exclusion and discovery limits on the $η_T$ mass which could be established at the Tevatron for some technicolor models.
