Two Types of Phase Synchronization Destruction

In this article we report that there are two different types of destruction of the phase synchronization regime of chaotic oscillators depending on the parameter mismatch as well as in the case of the classical synchronization of periodic oscillators. When the parameter mismatch of the interacting chaotic oscillators is small enough the PS breaking takes place without the destruction of the phase coherence of chaotic attractors of oscillators. Alternatively, due to the large frequency detuning, the PS breaking is accomplished by loss of the phase coherence of the chaotic attractors.

Ring Intermittency in Coupled Chaotic Oscillators at the Boundary of Phase Synchronization

A new type of intermittent behavior is described to occur near the boundary of phase synchronization regime of coupled chaotic oscillators. This mechanism, called ring intermittency, arises for sufficiently high initial mismatches in the frequencies of the two coupled systems. The laws for both the distribution and the mean length of the laminar phases versus the coupling strength are analytically deduced. A very good agreement between the theoretical results and the numerically calculated data is shown. We discuss how this mechanism is expected to take place in other relevant physical circumstances.

Chaotic synchronization in coupled spatially extended beam-plasma systems

The appearance of the chaotic synchronization regimes has been discovered for the coupled spatially extended beam-plasma Pierce systems. The coupling was introduced only on the right bound of each subsystem. It has been shown that with coupling increase the spatially extended beam-plasma systems show the transition from asynchronous behavior to the phase synchronization and then to the complete synchronization regime. For the consideration of the chaotic synchronization we used the concept of time scale synchronization described in work [Chaos, 14, 3 (2004) 603-610] and based on the introduction of the continuous set of phases of chaotic signal. In case of unidirectional coupling the generalized synchronization regime has been observed in the spatially extended beam-plasma systems. The generalized synchronization appearance mechanism has been analyzed by means of the offered modified system approach [Phys. Rev. E, 71, 6 (2005) 067201].

Detecting synchronization of self-sustained oscillators by external driving with varying frequency

We propose a method for detecting the presence of synchronization of self-sustained oscillator by external driving with linearly varying frequency. The method is based on a continuous wavelet transform of the signals of self-sustained oscillator and external force and allows one to distinguish the case of true synchronization from the case of spurious synchronization caused by linear mixing of the signals. We apply the method to driven van der Pol oscillator and to experimental data of human heart rate variability and respiration.

Generalized synchronization in coupled Ginzburg-Landau equations and mechanisms of its arising

Generalized chaotic synchronization regime is observed in the unidirectionally coupled one-dimensional Ginzburg-Landau equations. The mechanism resulting in the generalized synchronization regime arising in the coupled spatially extended chaotic systems demonstrating spatiotemporal chaotic oscillations has been described. The cause of the generalized synchronization occurrence is studied with the help of the modified Ginzburg-Landau equation with additional dissipation.

Generalized synchronization: a modified system approach

The universal mechanism resulting in the generalized synchronization regime arising in the chaotic oscillators with the dissipative coupling has been described. The reasons of the generalized synchronization occurrence may be clarified by means of a modified system approach. The main results are illustrated by unidirectionally coupled Rossler systems, Rossler and Lorenz systems and logistic maps.

Synchronization of spectral components and its regularities in chaotic dynamical systems

The chaotic synchronization regime in coupled dynamical systems is considered. It has been shown, that the onset of synchronous regime is based on the appearance of the phase relation between interacting chaotic oscillators frequency components of Fourier spectra. The criterion of synchronization of spectral components as well as the measure of synchronization have been discussed. The universal power law has been described. The main results are illustrated by coupled Rössler systems, Van-der-Pol and Van-der-Pol-Duffing oscillators.

Investigation of the complex dynamics and regime control in Pierce diode with the delay feedback

In this paper the dynamics of Pierce diode with overcritical current under the influence of delay feedback is investigated. The system without feedback demonstrates complex behaviour including chaotic regimes. The possibility of oscillation regime control depending on the delay feedback parameter values is shown. Also the paper describes construction of a finite-dimensional model of electron beam behaviour, which is based on the Galerkin approximation by linear modes expansion. The dynamics of the model is close to the one given by the distributed model.

Chaotic synchronization of coupled electron-wave systems with backward waves

The chaotic synchronization of two electron-wave media with interacting backward waves and cubic phase nonlinearity is investigated in the paper. To detect the chaotic synchronization regime we use a new approach, the so-called time scale synchronization [Chaos, 14 (3) 603-610 (2004)]. This approach is based on the consideration of the infinite set of chaotic signals' phases introduced by means of continuous wavelet transform. The complex space-time dynamics of the active media and mechanisms of the time scale synchronization appearance are considered.

Synchronization of chaotic oscillator time scales

This paper deals with the chaotic oscillator synchronization. A new approach to detect the synchronized behaviour of chaotic oscillators has been proposed. This approach is based on the analysis of different time scales in the time series generated by the coupled chaotic oscillators. It has been shown that complete synchronization, phase synchronization, lag synchronization and generalized synchronization are the particular cases of the synchronized behavior called as "time--scale synchronization". The quantitative measure of chaotic oscillator synchronous behavior has been proposed. This approach has been applied for the coupled Rossler systems.

Intermittent generalized synchronization in unidirectionally coupled chaotic oscillators

A new behavior type of unidirectionally coupled chaotic oscillators near the generalized synchronization transition has been detected. It has been shown that the generalized synchronization appearance is preceded by the intermitted behavior: close to threshold parameter value the coupled chaotic systems demonstrate the generalized synchronization most of the time, but there are time intervals during which the synchronized oscillations are interrupted by non-synchronous bursts. This type of the system behavior has been called intermitted generalized synchronization (IGS) by analogy with intermitted lag synchronization (ILS) [Phys. Rev. E \textbf{62}, 7497 (2000)].

An approach to chaotic synchronization

This paper deals with the chaotic oscillator synchronization. A new approach to the synchronization of chaotic oscillators has been proposed. This approach is based on the analysis of different time scales in the time series generated by the coupled chaotic oscillators. It has been shown that complete synchronization, phase synchronization, lag synchronization and generalized synchronization are the particular cases of the synchronized behavior called as "time-scale synchronization". The quantitative measure of chaotic oscillator synchronous behavior has been proposed. This approach has been applied for the coupled Rössler systems and two coupled Chua's circuits.
