Vision AI Agent for Continuous Material Monitoring of LEGEND-1000 LoFi Reentrant Tube

We report on a vision AI agent pipeline for non-contact material strain and property extraction from video data, demonstrated on video taken during hydrostatic testing of four OFHC copper cylinders conducted as part of the LEGEND-1000 hardware validation campaign. Traditional strain gauge measurements proved unreliable, motivating a fully-automated agentic alternative. The agent was built on the LangChain framework with Claude Haiku 4.5 as its central reasoning engine, integrating a specialized suite of computer vision tools: FFmpeg for video preprocessing and rotation correction via Hough Line Transform, the Segment Anything Model 2 (SAM2) for spatiotemporal segmentation with automated memory-informed dynamic chunking, and a hybrid EasyOCR and LLM-based timestamp validation pipeline. Three specialized sub-agents were developed to process the video data and obtain cylinder diameters and timestamps while autonomously handling obstacles such as corrupted frames and memory limits. From the diameter profiles synchronized to pressure data, hoop stress--strain curves were reconstructed and yield strengths were calculated using the 0.2\% offset, 0.5\% EUL, and Johnson-Cook methods across two independent tests. Cross-validation against a non-agentic pipeline confirmed agreement for the diameter extraction at the $\pm$5 pixel level. The material properties and testing results were further compared to Ansys mechanical simulations performed as part of the LEGEND-1000 reentrant tube design campaign. This work showcases the power of agentic pipelines to extract materials data from video alone.

A tunable photonic band gap resonator for axion dark matter searches

Axions are a well-motivated dark matter candidate particle. Haloscopes aim to detect axions in the galactic halo by measuring the photon signal resulting from axions interacting with a strong magnetic field. Existing haloscopes are primarily targeting axion masses which produce microwave-range photons and rely on microwave resonators to enhance the signal power. Only a limited subset of resonator modes are useful for this process, and current cylindrical-style cavities suffer from mode mixing and crowding from other fundamental modes. The majority of these modes can be eliminated by using photonic band gap (PBG) resonators. The band gap behavior of these structures allows for a resonator with mode selectivity based on frequency. We present results from the first tunable PBG resonator, a proof-of-concept design with a footprint compatible with axion haloscopes. We have thoroughly characterized the tuning range of two versions of the structure and report the successful confinement of the operating TM$_{010}$ (transverse magnetic) mode and the elimination of all transverse electric modes within the tuning range.

Searching for Dark Photons with Existing Haloscope Data

The dark (or hidden) photon is a massive U(1) gauge boson theorized as a dark force mediator and as a dark matter candidate. Dark photons can be detected with axion cavity haloscopes by probing for a power excess caused by the dark photon's kinetic mixing with Standard Model photons. Haloscope axion exclusion limits may therefore be converted into competitive dark photon parameter limits via the calculation of a corresponding dark photon to photon coupling factor. This calculation allows for an improvement in sensitivity of around four orders of magnitude relative to other dark photon exclusions and may be attained using existing data. We present how one converts haloscope axion search limits and a summary of relevant experimental parameters from published searches. In addition, we have included the code that can be used to generate our dark photon exclusion limits for the cases described in this paper. Finally, we present limits on the kinetic mixing coefficient between dark photons and the Standard Model photons based on existing haloscope axion searches.
