Weakly resonant tunneling interactions for adiabatic quasi-periodic Schrodinger operators

In this paper, we study spectral properties of the one dimensional periodic Schrodinger operator with an adiabatic quasi-periodic perturbation. We show that in certain energy regions the perturbation leads to resonance effects related to the ones observed in the problem of two resonating quantum wells. These effects affect both the geometry and the nature of the spectrum. In particular, they can lead to the intertwining of sequences of intervals containing absolutely continuous spectrum and intervals containing singular spectrum. Moreover, in regions where all of the spectrum is expected to be singular, these effects typically give rise to exponentially small "islands" of absolutely continuous spectrum.

On the singular spectrum for adiabatic quasi-periodic Schrodinger operators on the real line

In this paper, we study spectral properties of a family of quasi-periodic Schrodinger operators on the real line in the adiabatic limit. We assume that the adiabatic iso-energetic curves are extended along the momentum direction. In the energy intervals where this happens, we obtain an asymptotic formula for the Lyapunov exponent, and show that the spectrum is purely singular.

On the difference equations with periodic coefficients

In this paper, we study entire solutions of the difference equation $ψ(z+h)=M(z)ψ(z)$, $z\in{\mathbb C}$, $ψ(z)\in {\mathbb C}^2$. In this equation, $h$ is a fixed positive parameter and $M: {\mathbb C}\to SL(2,{\mathbb C})$ is a given matrix function. We assume that $M(z)$ is a $2π$-periodic trigonometric polynomial. We construct the minimal entire solutions, i.e. entire solutions with the minimal possible growth simultaneously as for im$z\to+\infty$ so for im$z\to-\infty$. We show that the monodromy matrices corresponding to the minimal entire solutions are trigonometric polynomials of the same order as $M$. This property relates the spectral analysis of difference Schrödinger equations with trigonometric polynomial coefficients to an analysis of finite dimensional dynamical systems.

The monodromy matrix for a family of almost periodic Schrödinger equations in the adiabatic case

This work is devoted to the study of a family of almost periodic one-dimensional Schrödinger equations. We define a monodromy matrix for this family. We study the asymptotic behavior of this matrix in the adiabatic case. Therefore, w develop a complex WKB method for adiabatic perturbations of periodic Schrödinger equations. At last, the study of the monodromy matrix enables us to get some spectral results for the initial family of almost periodic equations.
