Gluing stability conditions

We define and study a gluing procedure for Bridgeland stability conditions in the situation when a triangulated category has a semiorthogonal decomposition. As an application we construct stability conditions on the derived categories of ${\mathbb{Z}}_2$-equivariant sheaves associated with ramified double coverings of ${\mathbb{P}}^3$. Also, we study the stability space for the derived category of ${\mathbb{Z}}_2$-equivariant coherent sheaves on a smooth curve $X$, associated with a degree 2 map $X\to Y$, where $Y$ is another smooth curve. In the case when the genus of $Y$ is $\geq 1$ we give a complete description of the stability space.

Massey products on cycles of projective lines and trigonometric solutions of the Yang-Baxter equations

We show that a nondegenerate unitary solution $r(u,v)$ of the associative Yang-Baxter equation (AYBE) for $\Mat(N,\C)$ (see math.AG/0008156) with the Laurent series at $u=0$ of the form $r(u,v)=\frac{1\ot 1}{u}+r_0(v)+...$ satisfies the quantum Yang-Baxter equation, provided the projection of $r_0(v)$ to traceless matrices has a period. We classify all such solutions of the AYBE extending the work of Schedler math.QA/0212258. We also characterize solutions coming from triple Massey products in the derived category of coherent sheaves on cycles of projective lines.

Algebraic cycles on the relative symmetric powers and on the relative Jacobian of a family of curves. II

Let C be a curve over a non-singular base variety S. We study algebraic cycles on the symmetric powers C^[n] and on the Jacobian J. The Chow homology of C^[*], the sum of all C^[n], is a ring using the Pontryagin product. We prove that this ring is isomorphic to CH(J)[t] , the PD-polynomial algebra (variable: u) over the usual polynomial ring (variable: t) over the Chow ring CH(J). We give two such isomorphisms that over a general base are different. Further we give some precise results on how CH(J) sits embedded in CH(C^[*]) and we give an explicit geometric description of how the derivations with regard to t and u act. Our results give rise to a new grading on the Chow ring of the Jacobian. After tensoring with Q the associated descending filtration coincides with the one coming from Beauville's decomposition. The grading we obtain is in general different from Beauville's. Finally we give a version of our main result for tautological classes, and we show how our methods give a very simple and geometric proof of some relations obtained by Herbaut and van der Geer-Kouvidakis.

Divided powers in Chow rings and integral Fourier transforms

We prove that for any monoid scheme M over a field with proper multiplication maps from M x M to M, we have a natural PD-structure on the ideal CH_{>0}(M) of CH(M) with regard to the Pontryagin ring structure. Further we investigate to what extent it is possible to define a Fourier transform on the motive with integral coefficients of the Jacobian of a curve. For a hyperelliptic curve of genus g with sufficiently many k-rational Weierstrass points, we construct such an integral Fourier transform with all the usual properties up to 2^N-torsion, where N is the integral part of 1 + log_2(3g). As a consequence we obtain, over an algebraically closed field, a PD-structure (for the intersection product) on 2^N A, where A is the augmentation ideal of CH(J). We show that a factor 2 in the properties of an integral Fourier transform cannot be eliminated even for elliptic curves over an algebraically closed field.

Kernel algebras and generalized Fourier-Mukai transforms

We introduce and study kernel algebras, i.e., algebras in the category of sheaves on a square of a scheme, where the latter category is equipped with a monoidal structure via a natural convolution operation. We show that many interesting categories, such as D-modules, equivariant sheaves and their twisted versions, arise as categories of modules over kernel algebras. We develop the techniques of constructing derived equivalences between these module categories. As one application we generalize the results of math.AG/9901009 concerning modules over algebras of twisted differential operators on abelian varieties. As another application we recover and generalize the results of Laumon in alg-geom/9603004 concerning an analog of the Fourier transform for derived categories of quasicoherent sheaves on a dual pair of generalized 1-motives.

K-theoretic exceptional collections at roots of unity

Using cyclotomic specializations of the equivariant $K$-theory with respect to a torus action we derive congruences for discrete invariants of exceptional objects in derived categories of coherent sheaves on a class of varieties that includes Grassmannians and smooth quadrics. For example, we prove that if $X={\Bbb P}^{n_1-1}\times...\times{\Bbb P}^{n_k-1}$, where $n_i$'s are powers of a fixed prime number $p$, then the rank of an exceptional object on $X$ is congruent to $\pm 1$ modulo $p$.

Fourier-stable subrings in the Chow rings of abelian varieties

We study subrings in the Chow ring $\CH^*(A)_{\Bbb Q}$ of an abelian variety $A$, stable under the Fourier transform with respect to an arbitrary polarization. We prove that by taking Pontryagin products of classes of dimension $\leq 1$ one gets such a subring. We also show how to construct finite-dimensional Fourier-stable subrings in $\CH^*(A)_{\Bbb Q}$. Another result concerns the relation between the Pontryagin product and the usual product on the $\CH^*(A)_{\Bbb Q}$. We prove that the operator of the usual product with a cycle is a differential operator with respect to the Pontryagin product and compute its order in terms of the Beauville's decomposition of $\CH^*(A)_{\Bbb Q}$.

Algebraic cycles on the relative symmetric powers and on the relative Jacobian of a family of curves. I

In this paper we construct and study the actions of certain deformations of the Lie algebra of Hamiltonians on the plane on the Chow groups (resp., cohomology) of the relative symmetric powers ${\cal C}^{[\bullet]}$ and the relative Jacobian ${\cal J}$ of a family of curves ${\cal C}/S$. As one of the applications, we show that in the case of a single curve $C$ this action induces a integral form of a Lefschetz $\operatorname{sl}_2$-action on the Chow groups of $C^{[N]}$. Another application gives a new grading on the ring of 0-cycles on the Jacobian $J$ of $C$ (with respect to the Pontryagin product) and equips it with an action of the Lie algebra of vector fields on the line. We also define the groups of tautological classes in $CH^*({\cal C}^{[\bullet]})$ and in $CH^*({\cal J})$ and prove for them analogs of the properties established in the case of the Jacobian of a single curve by Beauville in math.AG/0204188. We also show that the our algebras of operators preserve the subrings of tautological cycles and act on them via some explicit differential operators.

Simple helices on Fano threefolds

Building on the work of Nogin \cite{Nogin}, we prove that the braid group $B_4$ acts transitively on full exceptional collections of vector bundles on Fano threefolds with $b_2=1$ and $b_3=0$. Equivalently, this group acts transitively on the set of simple helices (considered up to a shift in the derived category) on such a Fano threefold. We also prove that on threefolds with $b_2=1$ and very ample anticanonical class, every exceptional coherent sheaf is locally free.

Constant families of t-structures on derived categories of coherent sheaves

We generalize the construction given in math.AG/0309435 of a "constant" t-structure on the bounded derived category of coherent sheaves $D(X\times S)$ starting with a t-structure on $D(X)$. Namely, we remove smoothness and quasiprojectivity assumptions on $X$ and $S$ and work with t-structures that are not necessarily Noetherian but are close to Noetherian in the appropriate sense. The main new tool is the construction of induced t-structures that uses unbounded derived categories of quasicoherent sheaves and relies on the results of \cite{AJS}. As an application of the "constant" t-structures techniques we prove that every bounded nondegenerate t-structure on $D(X)$ with Noetherian heart is invariant under the action of a connected group of autoequivalences of $D(X)$. Also, we show that if $X$ is smooth then the only local t-structures on $D(X)$, i.e., those for which there exist compatible t-structures on $D(U)$ for all open $U\subset X$, are the perverse t-structures considered in math.AG/0005152.

Quasicoherent sheaves on complex noncommutative two-tori

We introduce the notion of a quasicoherent sheaf on a complex noncommutative two-torus $T$ as an ind-object in the category of holomorphic vector bundles on $T$. Extending the results of math.QA/0211262 and math.QA/0308136 we prove that the derived category of quasicoherent sheaves on $T$ is equivalent to the derived category of usual quasicoherent sheaves on the corresponding elliptic curve. We define the rank of a quasicoherent sheaf that can take arbitrary nonnegative real values. We study the category $\Qcoh(η_T)$ obtained by taking the quotient of the category of quasicoherent sheaves by the subcategory of objects of rank zero (called torsion sheaves). We show that projective objects of finite rank in $\Qcoh(η_T)$ are classified up to an isomorphism by their rank. We also prove that the subcategory of objects of finite rank in $\Qcoh(η_T)$ is equivalent to the category of finitely presented modules over a semihereditary algebra.

Sheaves of t-structures and valuative criteria for stable complexes

In this work more questions arise than answers given, for which of course we do not apologize. The core of this paper is concerned with the construction of a ``constant'' t-structure on the bounded derived category of coherent sheaves $D(X\times S)$, with $X$ and $S$ smooth varieties, given a nondegenerate t-structure on $D(X)$ with noetherian heart. While we believe this construction and the methods involved should be generally useful in studying derived categories, we present here but one application: we prove a valuative criterion for separation and properness for the collection P(1) of stable objects of phase 1 under a numerical, locally finite and noetherian Bridgeland-Douglas stability condition $(Z,\cP)$ on $D(X)$, where $X$ is a smooth projective variety. As an immediate result, the number of long-exact sequences in the first named author's output is no longer an embarrassment.

Koszul configurations of points in projective spaces

We prove a new criterion for the homogeneous coordinate ring of a finite set of points in ${\Bbb P}^n$ to be Koszul. Like the well known criterion due to Kempf it involves only incidence conditions on linear spans of subsets of a given set. We also give a sufficient condition for the Koszul property to be preserved when passing to a subset of a finite set of points in ${\Bbb P}^n$.

Lie symmetries of the Chow group of a Jacobian and the tautological subring

Let $J$ be the Jacobian of a smooth projective curve. We define a natural action of the Lie algebra of polynomial Hamiltonian vector fields on the plane, vanishing at the origin, on the Chow group of $J$ with rational coefficients. Using this action we obtain some relations between tautological cycles on $J$.

Holomorphic bundles on 2-dimensional noncommutative toric orbifolds

We define the notion of a holomorphic bundle on the noncommutative toric orbifold $T_θ/G$ associated with an action of a finite cyclic group $G$ on an irrational rotation algebra. We prove that the category of such holomorphic bundles is abelian and its derived category is equivalent to the derived category of modules over a finite-dimensional algebras $Λ$. As an application we finish the computation of $K_0$-groups of the crossed product algebras describing the above orbifolds initiated by Kumjian, Walters and Buck. Also, we describe a torsion pair in the category of $Λ$-modules, such that the tilting with respect to this torsion pair gives the category of holomorphic bundles on $T_θ/G$.

Indefinite theta series of signature (1,1) from the point of view of homological mirror symmetry

We apply the homological mirror symmetry for elliptic curves to the study of indefinite theta series. We prove that every such series corresponding to a quadratic form of signature (1,1) can be expressed in terms of theta series associated with split quadratic forms and the usual theta series. We also show that indefinite theta series corresponding to univalued Massey products between line bundles on elliptic curve are modular.
