Ermakov--Based embeddings as a parameter-free layer for physics-informed neural networks

Evolution equations with time-dependent coefficients force a neural solver to spend capacity on a scale that the equation already determines. We show that a single classical object, the Ermakov-Pinney scale function $ρ$, can be written into the input layer of a physics-informed neural network as a parameter-free embedding. One construction covers three problem families through the two signs of the Pinney constant $c$: linear diffusion ($c=-1$, $ω\equiv0$), diffusion in a time-dependent confining trap ($c=-1$, $ω\neq0$), and the quantum oscillator with time-dependent frequency ($c=+1$). An exact moment identity gives $ρ$ in closed form from the initial data alone, so no auxiliary network or knowledge of the solution is needed. Our central finding is comparative: each family requires a different component of the construction and has a different honest control. In family I, the diffusive-time reparametrisation alone reproduces most of the gain, so that family is a poor test of the idea and shows why an ablation is mandatory. In family II no time reparametrisation exists, the control degrades accuracy, and the amplitude prefactor becomes essential (40.8x). In family III the adiabatic approximation also fails, and the quadratic phase factor is what matters (5.7x). The method does not help when the reduced solution does not converge to a fixed point: its extrapolation advantage then disappears. The reduction itself is the classical scaling-variable change of the self-similar-asymptotics literature; what is new is the moment identity that makes it architectural for time-dependent coefficients, and the comparative anatomy above.

Exact Gaussian Entanglement Dynamics and Initial-State Control in Coupled Parametric Oscillators

We study two bilinearly coupled harmonic oscillators driven by a common time-dependent spring. A fixed normal-mode transformation reduces the pair to two parametric oscillators, each solved exactly by its Lewis-Riesenfeld invariant and Ermakov-Pinney amplitude, including the ladder-operator construction and the Lewis-Riesenfeld phase. For invariant-vacuum inputs the physical two-mode covariance matrix is obtained in closed form, and the logarithmic negativity collapses to $E_{N}=\frac{1}{2} \operatorname{arcosh}(X/2)$, where a single dimensionless invariant $X \geq 2$ measures the relative phase-space deformation of the two normal modes. We give a normalization-explicit account of the Duan--Simon comparison: after local symplectic optimization the Duan test and the positive partial transpose share the entanglement threshold for this pure exchange-symmetric Gaussian family, but the optimized Duan quantity is a witness, not an independent measure, with $D_{\rm opt}/D_{\rm sep}=e^{-E_N}$. We carefully separate a genuinely separable product preparation from the already-entangled ground state of the coupled Hamiltonian, and use only the former for claims of entanglement generation. Under sinusoidal stiffness modulation a separable input shows bounded correlations away from resonance and sustained growth near parametric resonance, and we demonstrate numerically that the initial width and chirp act as two independent, experimentally accessible controls of the entanglement at a chosen target time. An $SU(1,1)$ formulation identifies $2 E_{N}$ with the hyperbolic separation of the two normal-mode squeezing trajectories on the $SU(1,1)/U(1)$ disk and shows that entanglement is governed by both the relative squeezing magnitude and the relative squeezing angle; ; we exhibit regimes in which nearly equal magnitudes still produce strong entanglement through the angle alone.

Stability of cluster formations in adaptive Kuramoto networks

This paper studies stability properties of multi-cluster formations in Kuramoto networks with adaptive coupling. Sufficient conditions for the local asymptotic stability of the corresponding synchronization invariant toroidal manifold are derived and formulated in terms of the intra-cluster interconnection topology and plasticity parameters of the adaptive couplings. The proposed sufficient stability conditions qualitatively mimic certain counterpart results for Kuramoto networks with static coupling which require sufficiently strong and dense intra-cluster connections and sufficiently weak and sparse inter-cluster ones. Remarkably, the existence of cluster formations depends on the interconnection structure between nodes belonging to different clusters and does not require any coupling links between nodes that form a cluster. On the other hand, the stability properties of clusters depend on the interconnection structure inside the clusters. This dependence constitutes the main contribution of the paper. Also, two numerical examples are provided to validate the proposed theoretical findings.

Synchronization and multi-cluster capabilities of oscillatory networks with adaptive coupling

We prove the existence of a multi-dimensional non-trivial invariant toroidal manifold for the Kuramoto network with adaptive coupling. The constructed invariant manifold corresponds to the multi-cluster behavior of the oscillators phases. Contrary to the static coupling, the adaptive coupling strengths exhibit quasiperiodic oscillations preserving zero phase-difference within clusters. The derived sufficient conditions for the existence of the invariant manifold provide a trade-off between the natural frequencies of the oscillators, coupling plasticity parameters, and the interconnection structure of the network. Furthermore, we study the robustness of the invariant manifold with respect to the perturbations of the interconnection topology and establish structural and quantitative constraints on the perturbation adjacency matrix preserving the invariant manifold. Additionally, we demonstrate the application of the new results to the problem of interconnection topology design which consists in endowing the desired multi-cluster behavior to the network by controlling its interconnection structure.

Synchronization of nonlinearly coupled networks of Chua oscillators

The paper develops new sufficient conditions for synchronization of a network of $N$ nonlinearly coupled Chua oscillators interconnected via the first state coordinate only. The nonlinear coupling strength is governed by a function residing within a sector, i.e. it is bounded from above and below by linear functions. The derived sufficient conditions provide a trade-off between the characteristics of the sector and the interconnection topology of the network to guarantee the synchronization of the oscillators.

Decision dynamics in complex networks subject to mass media and social contact transmission mechanisms

The dynamics of decisions in complex networks is studied within a Markov process framework using numerical simulations combined with mathematical insight into the process mechanisms. A mathematical discrete-time model is derived based on a set of basic assumptions on the convincing mechanisms associated to two opinions. The model is analyzed with respect to multiplicity of critical points, illustrating in this way the main behavior to be expected in the network. Particular interest is focussed on the effect of social network and exogenous mass media-based influences on the decision behavior. A set of numerical simulation results is provided illustrating how these mechanisms impact the final decision results. The analysis reveals (i) the presence of fixed-point multiplicity (with a maximum of four different fixed points), multistability, and sensitivity with respect to process parameters, and (ii) that mass media have a strong impact on the decision behavior.
