On generalization of theorems of Pestryakov

In 1987, A.V. Pestryakov proved a series of theorems for cardinal functions of the space $B_α(X)$ of all real-valued functions of Baire class $α$ $(α> 0)$, and he conjectured that most of these theorems are true for spaces containing all finite linear combinations of characteristic functions of zero-sets in $X$. In this paper we investigate for which theorems of Pestriakov generalizations are valid. Also we prove some additional propositions for function spaces applying the theory of selection principles.

Topological properties of some function spaces

Let $Y$ be a metrizable space containing at least two points, and let $X$ be a $Y_{\mathcal{I}}$-Tychonoff space for some ideal $\mathcal{I}$ of compact sets of $X$. Denote by $C_{\mathcal{I}}(X,Y)$ the space of continuous functions from $X$ to $Y$ endowed with the $\mathcal{I}$-open topology. We prove that $C_{\mathcal{I}}(X,Y)$ is Fréchet - Urysohn iff $X$ has the property $γ_{\mathcal{I}}$. We characterize zero - dimensional Tychonoff spaces $X$ for which the space $C_{\mathcal{I}}(X,{\bf 2})$ is sequential. Extending the classical theorems of Gerlits, Nagy and Pytkeev we show that if $Y$ is not compact, then $C_{p}(X,Y)$ is Fréchet - Urysohn iff it is sequential iff it is a $k$-space iff $X$ has the property $γ$. An analogous result is obtained for the space of bounded continuous functions taking values in a metrizable locally convex space. Denote by $B_{1}(X,Y)$ and $B(X,Y)$ the space of Baire one functions and the space of all Baire functions from $X$ to $Y$, respectively. If $H$ is a subspace of $B(X,Y)$ containing $B_{1}(X,Y)$, then $H$ is metrizable iff it is a $σ$ - space iff it has countable $cs^*$ - character iff $X$ is countable. If additionally $Y$ is not compact, then $H$ is Fréchet - Urysohn iff it is sequential iff it is a $k$ - space iff it has countable tightness iff $X_{\aleph_0}$ has the property $γ$, where $X_{\aleph_0}$ is the space $X$ with the Baire topology. We show that if $X$ is a Polish space, then the space $B_{1}(X,\mathbb{R})$ is normal iff $X$ is countable.

On homeomorphism groups and the set-open topology

In this paper we focus on the set-open topologies on the group $\mathcal{H}(X)$ of all self-homeomorphisms of a topological space $X$ which yield continuity of both the group operations, product and inverse function. As a consequence, we make the more general case of Dijkstra's theorem. In this case a homogeneously encircling family $\mathcal{B}$ consists of regular open sets and the closure of every set from $\mathcal{B}$ is contained in the finite union of connected sets from $\mathcal{B}$. Also we proved that the zero-cozero topology of $\mathcal{H}(X)$ is the relativisation to $\mathcal{H}(X)$ of the compact-open topology of $\mathcal{H}(βX)$ for any Tychonoff space $X$ and every homogeneous zero-dimensional space $X$ can be represented as the quotient space of a topological group with respect to a closed subgroup.

On regular $κ$-bounded spaces admitting only constant continuous mappings into $T_1$ spaces of pseudo-character $\leq κ$

In this paper for each cardinal $κ$ we construct an infinite $κ$-bounded (and hence countably compact) regular space $R_κ$ such that for any $T_1$ space $Y$ of pseudo-character $\leqκ$, each continuous function $f:R_κ\rightarrow Y$ is constant. This result resolves two problems posted by Tzannes in Open Problems from Topology Proceedings and extends results of Ciesielski and Wojciechowski and Herrlich.

Strongly sequentially separable function spaces, via selection principles

A separable space is strongly sequentially separable if, for each countable dense set, every point in the space is a limit of a sequence from the dense set. We consider this and related properties, for the spaces of continous and Borel real-valued functions on Tychonoff spaces, with the topology of pointwise convergence. Our results solve a problem stated by Gartside, Lo, and Marsh.

On Ramsey properties, function spaces, and topological games

An open question of Gruenhage asks if all strategically selectively separable spaces are Markov selectively separable, a game-theoretic statement known to hold for countable spaces. As a corollary of a result by Berner and Juh$\acute{a}$sz, we note that the strong version of this statement, where the second player is restricted to selecting single points in the rather than finite subsets, holds for all $T_3$ spaces without isolated points. Continuing this investigation, we also consider games related to selective sequential separability, and demonstrate results analogous to those for selective separability. In particular, strong selective sequential separability in the presence of the Ramsey property may be reduced to a weaker condition on a countable sequentially dense subset. Additionally, $γ$- and $ω$- covering properties on $X$ are shown to be equivalent to corresponding sequential properties on $C_p(X)$. A strengthening of the Ramsey property is also introduced, which is still equivalent to $α_2$ and $α_4$ in the context of $C_p(X)$.

Selectors for dense subsets of function spaces

Let $USC^*_p(X)$ be the topological space of real upper semicontinuous bounded functions defined on $X$ with the subspace topology of the product topology on ${}^X\mathbb{R}$. $\tildeΦ^{\uparrow},\tildeΨ^{\uparrow}$ are the sets of all upper sequentially dense, upper dense or pointwise dense subsets of $USC^*_p(X)$, respectively. We prove several equivalent assertions to the assertion $USC^*_p(X)$ satisfies the selection principles $S_1(\tildeΦ^{\uparrow},\tildeΨ^{\uparrow})$, including a condition on the topological space $X$. We prove similar results for the topological space $C^*_p(X)$ of continuous bounded functions. Similar results hold true for the selection principles $S_{fin}(\tildeΦ^{\uparrow},\tildeΨ^{\uparrow})$.

Selection principles and games in bitopological function spaces

For a Tychonoff space $X$, we denote by $(C(X), τ_k, τ_p)$ the bitopological space of all real-valued continuous functions on $X$ where $τ_k$ is the compact-open topology and $τ_p$ is the topology of pointwise convergence. In papers [5, 6, 13] variations of selective separability and tightness in $(C(X), τ_k, τ_p)$ were investigated. In this paper we continued to study the selective properties and the corresponding topological games in the space $(C(X), τ_k, τ_p)$.

Selectors for sequences of subsets of hyperspaces

For a Hausdorff space $X$ we denote be $2^X$ the family of all closed subsets of $X$. In this paper we continue to research relationships between closure -type properties of hyperspaces over a space $X$ and covering properties of $X$. We investigate selectors for sequence of subsets of the space $2^{X}$ with the $Z^{+}$-topology and the upper Fell topology.

Indestructibly productively Lindelöf and Menger function spaces

For a Tychonoff space $X$ and a family $λ$ of subsets of $X$, we denote by $C_λ(X)$ the $T_1$-space of all real-valued continuous functions on $X$ with the $λ$ -open topology. A topological space is productively Lindelöf if its product with every Lindelöf space is Lindelöf. A space is indestructibly productively Lindelöf if it is productively Lindelöf in any extension by countably closed forcing. In this paper, we study indestructibly productively Lindelöf and Menger function space $C_λ(X)$.

On some properties of the space of upper semicontinuous functions

For a Tychonoff space $X$, we will denote by $USC_{p}(X)$ ($B_1(X)$) a set of all real-valued upper semicontinuous functions (a set of all Baire functions of class 1) defined on $X$ endowed with the pointwise convergence topology. In this paper we describe a class of Tychonoff spaces $X$ for which the space $USC_{p}(X)$ is sequentially separable. Unexpectedly, it turns out that this class coincides with the class of spaces for which a stronger form of the sequential separability for the space $B_1(X)$ holds.

A functional characterization of the Hurewicz property

For a Tychonoff space $X$, we denote by $C_p(X)$ the space of all real-valued continuous functions on $X$ with the topology of pointwise convergence. We give the functional characterization of the covering property of Hurewicz.
