Optimization of Discrete Parameters Using the Adaptive Gradient Method and Directed Evolution

The problem is considered of optimizing discrete parameters in the presence of constraints. We use the stochastic sigmoid with temperature and put forward the new adaptive gradient method CONGA. The search for an optimal solution is carried out by a population of individuals. Each of them varies according to gradients of the 'environment' and is characterized by two temperature parameters with different annealing schedules. Unadapted individuals die, and optimal ones interbreed, the result is directed evolutionary dynamics. The proposed method is illustrated using the well-known combinatorial problem for optimal packing of a backpack (0-1 KP).

Cryogenic probe for low-noise, high-frequency electronic measurements

The design and performance of a low-noise, modular cryogenic probe, applicable to a wide range of measurements over a broad range of working frequencies, temperatures, and magnetic fields is presented. The design of the probe facilitates the exchange of sample holders and sample-stage amplifiers, which, combined with its characteristic low transmission and reflection loss, make this design suitable for high precision or low sensitivity measurements. The specific example of measuring the shot noise of magnetic tunnel junctions is discussed. We highlight various design characteristics chosen specifically to expand the applicability of the probe to measurement techniques such as nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR).

The Vortex Solution in the (2+1)-Dimensional Yang-Mills-Chern-Simons Theory at High Temperature

The vortex-like solution to the non-linear field equations in a two-dimensional SU(2) gauge theory with the Chern-Simons mass term is found at high temperature. It is derived from the effective Lagrangian including the leading order finite temperature corrections. The discovered field configuration possesses the finite energy and the quantized magnetic flux. At the centre of the vortex the point charge is located which is surrounded by the distributed charge of the opposite sign and the vortex is neutral as a whole. At high temperature the energy of the vortex is negative and it corresponds to the ground state. The derived solution is considered to be a result of heating the lattice vacuum structure formed at zero temperature.
