CVSS-X: A Multilingual Speech-to-Speech Translation Corpus for 28 Languages

We introduce CVSS-X, a large-scale synthetic speech-to-speech translation corpus that extends CVSS by reversing the translation direction. While CVSS translates from 21 languages into English, CVSS-X enables translation from English into 28 target languages spanning 12 language families. The corpus comprises approximately 240,000 parallel speech pairs per language, totaling over 16,000 hours, eight times larger than CVSS. We provide two variants: CVSS-X-C with two canonical voices per language, and CVSS-X-T with cross-lingual voice cloning, both fully generated. Evaluation shows comparable translation quality to CVSS with consistent performance across typologically diverse languages. Combined with CVSS, this enables research on bidirectional and multilingual speech-to-speech translation. The code is available at https://github.com/ErmisAI/XVSS-X and the dataset under CC-BY-NC 4.0 license at https://huggingface.co/datasets/lgris/XVSS-X.

Tagarela - A Portuguese speech dataset from podcasts

Despite significant advances in speech processing, Portuguese remains under-resourced due to the scarcity of public, large-scale, and high-quality datasets. To address this gap, we present a new dataset, named TAGARELA, composed of over 8,972 hours of podcast audio, specifically curated for training automatic speech recognition (ASR) and text-to-speech (TTS) models. Notably, its scale rivals English's GigaSpeech (10kh), enabling state-of-the-art Portuguese models. To ensure data quality, the corpus was subjected to an audio pre-processing pipeline and subsequently transcribed using a mixed strategy: we applied ASR models that were previously trained on high-fidelity transcriptions generated by proprietary APIs, ensuring a high level of initial accuracy. Finally, to validate the effectiveness of this new resource, we present ASR and TTS models trained exclusively on our dataset and evaluate their performance, demonstrating its potential to drive the development of more robust and natural speech technologies for Portuguese. The dataset is released publicly, available at https://freds0.github.io/TAGARELA/, to foster the development of robust speech technologies.

Implementation and Applications of WakeWords Integrated with Speaker Recognition: A Case Study

This paper explores the application of artificial intelligence techniques in audio and voice processing, focusing on the integration of wake words and speaker recognition for secure access in embedded systems. With the growing prevalence of voice-activated devices such as Amazon Alexa, ensuring secure and user-specific interactions has become paramount. Our study aims to enhance the security framework of these systems by leveraging wake words for initial activation and speaker recognition to validate user permissions. By incorporating these AI-driven methodologies, we propose a robust solution that restricts system usage to authorized individuals, thereby mitigating unauthorized access risks. This research delves into the algorithms and technologies underpinning wake word detection and speaker recognition, evaluates their effectiveness in real-world applications, and discusses the potential for their implementation in various embedded systems, emphasizing security and user convenience. The findings underscore the feasibility and advantages of employing these AI techniques to create secure, user-friendly voice-activated systems.
