Integro-partial differential equations with singular terminal condition

In this paper, we show that the minimal solution of a backward stochastic differential equation gives a probabilistic representation of the minimal viscosity solution of an integro-partial differential equation both with a singular terminal condition. Singularity means that at the final time, the value of the solution can be equal to infinity. Different types of regularity of this viscosity solution are investigated: Sobolev, H{ö}lder or strong regularity.

L^p -solution for BSDEs with jumps in the case p \textless{} 2. Corrections to the paper "BSDEs with monotone generator driven by Brownian and Poisson noises in a general filtration"

In [8] we established existence and uniqueness of solutions of backward stochastic differential equations in L^p under a monotonicity condition on the generator and in a general filtration. There was a mistake in the case 1 \textless{} p \textless{} 2. Here we give a corrected proof. Moreover the quasi-left continuity condition on the filtration is removed.

Backward Stochastic Differential Equations with Nonmarkovian Singular Terminal Values

We solve a class of BSDE with a power function $f(y) = y^q$, $q > 1$, driving its drift and with the terminal boundary condition $ ξ= \infty \cdot \mathbf{1}_{B(m,r)^c}$ (for which $q > 2$ is assumed) or $ ξ= \infty \cdot \mathbf{1}_{B(m,r)}$, where $B(m,r)$ is the ball in the path space $C([0,T])$ of the underlying Brownian motion centered at the constant function $m$ and radius $r$. The solution involves the derivation and solution of a related heat equation in which $f$ serves as a reaction term and which is accompanied by singular and discontinuous Dirichlet boundary conditions. Although the solution of the heat equation is discontinuous at the corners of the domain the BSDE has continuous sample paths with the prescribed terminal value.

Homogenization of random parabolic operators. Diffusion approximation

The paper deals with homogenization of divergence form second order parabolic operators whose coefficients are periodic in spatial variables and random stationary in time. Under proper mixing assumptions, we study the limit behaviour of the normalized difference between solutions of the original and the homogenized problems. The asymptotic behaviour of this difference depends crucially on the ratio between spatial and temporal scaling factors. Here we study the case of self-similar parabolic diffusion scaling.

Lp-Solutions for Reected Backward Stochastic Differential Equations

This paper deals with the problem of existence and uniqueness of a solution for a backward stochastic differential equation (BSDE for short) with one reflecting barrier in the case when the terminal value, the generator and the obstacle process are Lp-integrable with p in ]1,2[. To construct the solution we use two methods: penalization and Snell envelope. As an application we broaden the class of functions for which the related obstacle partial differential equation problem has a unique viscosity solution.

On measure solutions of backward stochastic differential equations

We consider backward stochastic differential equations (BSDE) with nonlinear generators typically of quadratic growth in the control variable. A measure solution of such a BSDE will be understood as a probability measure under which the generator is seen as vanishing, so that the classical solution can be reconstructed by a combination of the operations of conditioning and using martingale representations. In case the terminal condition is bounded and the generator fulfills the usual continuity and boundedness conditions, we show that measure solutions with equivalent measures just reinterpret classical ones. In case of terminal conditions that have only exponentially bounded moments, we discuss a series of examples which show that in case of non-uniqueness classical solutions that fail to be measure solutions can coexists with different measure solutions.

A Finite Horizon Optimal Multiple Switching Problem

We consider the problem of optimal multiple switching in finite horizon, when the state of the system, including the switching costs, is a general adapted stochastic process. The problem is formulated as an extended impulse control problem and completely solved using probabilistic tools such as the Snell envelop of processes and reflected backward stochastic differential equations. Finally, when the state of the system is a Markov diffusion process, we show that the vector of value functions of the optimal problem is a viscosity solution to a system of variational inequalities with inter-connected obstacles.

Optimal cross hedging for insurance derivatives

We consider insurance derivatives depending on an external physical risk process, for example a temperature in a low dimensional climate model. We assume that this process is correlated with a tradable financial asset. We derive optimal strategies for exponential utility from terminal wealth, determine the indifference prices of the derivatives, and interpret them in terms of diversification pressure. Moreover we check the optimal investment strategies for standard admissibility criteria. Finally we compare the static risk connected with an insurance derivative to the reduced risk due to a dynamic investment into the correlated asset. We show that dynamic hedging reduces the risk aversion in terms of entropic risk measures by a factor related to the correlation.
