Para-Bannai-Ito Polynomials

New bispectral polynomials orthogonal on a Bannai-Ito bi-lattice (uniform quadri-lattice) are obtained from an unconventional truncation of the untruncated Bannai-Ito and complementary Bannai-Ito polynomials. A complete characterization of the resulting para-Bannai-Ito polynomials is provided, including a three term recurrence relation, a Dunkl-difference equation, an explicit expression in terms of hypergeometric series and an orthogonality relation. They are also derived as a $q\to -1$ limit of the $q$-para-Racah polynomials. A connection to the dual $-1$ Hahn polynomials is also established.

An algebraic treatment of the Pastro polynomials on the real line

The properties of the Pastro polynomials on the real line are studied with the help of a triplet of $q$-difference operators. The $q$-difference equation and recurrence relation these polynomials obey are shown to arise as generalized eigenvalue problems involving the triplet of operators, with the Pastro polynomials as solutions. Moreover, a discrete biorthogonality relation on the real line for the Pastro polynomials is obtained and is then understood using adjoint operators. The algebra realized by the triplet of $q$-difference operators is investigated.

Continuous $-1$ Hypergeometric Orthogonal Polynomials

The study of $-1$ orthogonal polynomials viewed as $q =-1$ limits of the $q$-orthogonal polynomials is pursued. This paper present the continuous polynomials part of the $-1$ analog of the $q$-Askey scheme. A compendium of the properties of all the continuous $-1$ hypergeometric polynomials and their connections is provided.

$R_I$ biorthogonal polynomials of Hahn type

A finite family of $R_I$ polynomials is introduced and studied. It consists in a set of polynomials of $_{3}F_{2}$ form whose biorthogonality to an ensemble of rational functions is spelled out. These polynomials are shown to satisfy two generalized eigenvalue problems: in addition to their recurrence relation of $R_I$ type, they are also found to obey a difference equation. Underscoring this bispectrality is a triplet of operators with tridiagonal actions.

Bispectrality and biorthogonality of the rational functions of $q$-Hahn type

We introduce families of rational functions that are biorthogonal with respect to the $q$-hypergeometric distribution. A triplet of $q$-difference operators $X$, $Y$, $Z$ is shown to play a role analogous to the pair of bispectral operators of orthogonal polynomials. The recurrence relation and difference equation take the form of generalized eigenvalue problems involving the three operators. The algebra generated by $X$, $Y$, $Z$ is akin to the algebras of Askey--Wilson type in the case of orthogonal polynomials. The actions of these operators in three different basis are presented. Connections with Wilson's ${}_{10}ϕ_9$ biorthogonal rational functions are also discussed.

Free boson realization of the Dunkl intertwining operator in one dimension

The operator that intertwines between the $\mathbb{Z}_2$ - Dunkl operator and the derivative is shown to have a realization in terms of the oscillator operators in one dimension. This observation rests on the fact that the Dunkl intertwining operator maps the Hermite polynomials on the generalized Hermite polynomials.

A classical model for perfect transfer and fractional revival based on $q$-Racah polynomials

It is shown how choices based on the $q$-Racah polynomials for the masses and spring constants along a chain give new systems that exactly allow dispersionless end-to-end transmission of a pulse as well as periodic splitting of the initial momentum between the first and last mass. This ``Newton's cradle'' provides a classical analog of quantum spin devices that exhibit perfect state transfer and fractional revival.

Analytic "Newton's cradles" with perfect transfer and fractional revival

Analytic mass-spring chains with dispersionless pulse transfer and fractional revival are presented. These are obtained using the properties of the para-Racah polynomials. This provides classical analogs of the quantum spin chains that realize important tasks in quantum information: perfect state transfer and entanglement generation.

Ramanujan's trigonometric sums and para-orthogonal polynomials on the unit circle

Ramanujan's trigonometric sum $c_q(n)$ can be interpreted as a set of trigonometric moments of a finite measure concentrated at primitive $q$-th roots of unity with equal masses. This gives rise to sets of corresponding polynomials orthogonal on the unit circle. We present explicit expressions of these polynomials for special values of $q$, e.g. when $q=p$ or $q=2p$ or $q=p^k$, where $p$ is a prime number. We generalize this procedure taking the Kronecker polynomial instead of cyclotomic one. In this case the moments are expressed as finite sums of $c_q(n)$ with different $q$.

Para-orthogonal polynomials on the unit circle generated by Kronecker polynomials

The Kronecker polynomial $K(z)$ is a finite product of cyclotomic polynomials $C_j(z)$. Any Kronecker polynomial $K(z)$ of degree $N+1$ with simple roots on the unit circle generates a finite set $Φ_0=1, Φ_1(z), \dots, Φ_N(z) $ of polynomials (para) orthogonal on the unit circle (POPUC). This set is determined uniquely by the condition $Φ_N(z) = (N+1)^{-1} K'(z)$. Such set can be called the set of Sturmian Kronecker POPUC. We present several new explicit examples of such POPUC. In particular, we define and analyze properties of the Sturmian cyclotomic POPUC generated by the cyclotomic polynomials $C_M(z)$. Expressions of these polynomials strongly depend on the decomposition of $M$ into prime factors.

Orthogonal polynomials and the deformed Jordan plane

We consider the unital associative algebra $\mathcal{A}$ with two generators $\mathcal{X}$, $\mathcal{Z}$ obeying the defining relation $[\mathcal{Z},\mathcal{X}]=\mathcal{Z}^2+Δ$. We construct irreducible tridiagonal representations of $\mathcal{A}$. Depending on the value of the parameter $Δ$, these representations are associated to the Jacobi matrices of the para-Krawtchouk, continuous Hahn, Hahn or Jacobi polynomials.

The rational Sklyanin algebra and the Wilson and para-Racah polynomials

The relation between Wilson and para-Racah polynomials and representations of the degenerate rational Sklyanin algebra is established. Second order Heun operators on quadratic grids with no diagonal terms are determined. These special or S-Heun operators lead to the rational degeneration of the Sklyanin algebra; they also entail the contiguity and structure operators of the Wilson polynomials. The finite-dimensional restriction yields a representation that acts on the para-Racah polynomials.

Sklyanin-like algebras for ($q$-)linear grids and ($q$-)para-Krawtchouk polynomials

S-Heun operators on linear and $q$-linear grids are introduced. These operators are special cases of Heun operators and are related to Sklyanin-like algebras. The Continuous Hahn and Big $q$-Jacobi polynomials are functions on which these S-Heun operators have natural actions. We show that the S-Heun operators encompass both the bispectral operators and Kalnins and Miller's structure operators. These four structure operators realize special limit cases of the trigonometric degeneration of the original Sklyanin algebra. Finite-dimensional representations of these algebras are obtained from a truncation condition. The corresponding representation bases are finite families of polynomials: the para-Krawtchouk and $q$-para-Krawtchouk ones. A natural algebraic interpretation of these polynomials that had been missing is thus obtained. We also recover the Heun operators attached to the corresponding bispectral problems as quadratic combinations of the S-Heun operators

A unified algebraic underpinning for the Hahn polynomials and rational functions

An algebra denoted $m\mathfrak{H}$ with three generators is introduced and shown to admit embeddings of the Hahn algebra and the rational Hahn algebra. It has a real version of the deformed Jordan plane as a subalgebra whose connection with Hahn polynomials is established. Representation bases corresponding to eigenvalue or generalized eigenvalue problems involving the generators are considered. Overlaps between these bases are shown to be bispectral orthogonal polynomials or biorthogonal rational functions thereby providing a unified description of these functions based on $m\mathfrak{H}$. Models in terms of differential and difference operators are used to identify explicitly the underlying special functions as Hahn polynomials and rational functions and to determine their characterizations. An embedding of $m\mathfrak{H}$ in $\mathcal{U}(\mathfrak{sl}_2)$ is presented. A Padé approximation table for the binomial function is obtained as a by-product.
