Quantization of bounded symplectic domains associated with compact Lie groups

We present a systematic quantization scheme for bounded symplectic domains of the form $D \times G \subset T^\ast G$, where $D \subset \mathfrak{g}^\ast$ is a bounded region defined by algebraic inequalities and $G$ is a compact Lie group with Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$. The finiteness of the symplectic volume implies that quantization yields a finite-dimensional Hilbert space, with observables represented by Hermitian matrices, for which we provide an explicit realization. Boundary effects necessitate modifications of the standard von Neumann and Dirac conditions, which usually underlie the correspondence principle. Physically, the compact group $G$ plays the role of momentum space, while $\mathfrak{g}^\ast$ corresponds to the (noncommutative) position space of a particle. The assumption of compact momentum space has profound physical consequences, including the supertunneling phenomenon and the emergence of a maximal fermion density.

A note on quantum Hamiltonian reduction and anomalies

Quantization of field-theoretic models with gauge symmetries is often obstructed by quantum anomalies. It is commonly believed that the origin of these anomalies lies in the infinite number of degrees of freedom, which requires completing the model within an appropriate regularization scheme. This paper provides an explicit example of a finite-dimensional Hamiltonian system with first-class constraints whose quantization exhibits anomalies. These anomalies arise from the nontrivial topology of the reduced phase space.

On Poisson Electrodynamics With Charged Fields

Poisson electrodynamics is the low-energy limit of a rank-one noncommutative gauge theory. It admits a closed formulation in terms of a Poisson structure on the space-time manifold and reproduces ordinary classical electrodynamics in the commutative limit. In this paper, we address and solve the problem of minimal coupling to charged matter fields with a proper commutative limit. Our construction essentially relies on the geometry of symplectic groupoids and works for all integrable Poisson manifolds. An additional advantage of our approach is that the corresponding Lagrangians can be defined on an arbitrary metric background.

Symplectic Groupoids and Poisson Electrodynamics

We develop a geometric approach to Poisson electrodynamics, that is, the semi-classical limit of noncommutative $U(1)$ gauge theory. Our framework is based on an integrating symplectic groupoid for the underlying Poisson brackets, which we interpret as the classical phase space of a point particle on noncommutative spacetime. In this picture gauge fields arise as bisections of the symplectic groupoid while gauge transformations are parameterized by Lagrangian bisections. We provide a geometric construction of a gauge invariant action functional which minimally couples a dynamical charged particle to a background electromagnetic field. Our constructions are elucidated by several explicit examples, demonstrating the appearances of curved and even compact momentum spaces, the interplay between gauge transformations and spacetime diffeomorphisms, as well as emergent gravity phenomena.

Wick-type deformation quantization of contact metric manifolds

We construct a Wick-type deformation quantization of contact metric manifolds. The construction is fully canonical and involves no arbitrary choice. Unlike the case of symplectic or Poisson manifolds, not every classical observable on a general contact metric manifold can be promoted to a quantum one due to possible obstructions to quantization. We prove, however, that all these obstructions disappear for Sasakian manifolds.

Deformation quantization of contact manifolds

We extend Fedosov deformation quantization to general contact manifolds. Unlike the case of symplectic manifolds, not every classical observable on a contact manifold is generally quantized. On examination of possible obstructions to quantization, we obtain some new invariants of contact manifolds.

Homotopy Cartan calculus and inner deformations of $A_\infty$-algebras

We consider inner deformations of families of $A_\infty$-algebras. With the help of noncommutative Cartan's calculus, we prove the invariance of Hochschild (co)homology under inner deformations. The invariance also holds for cyclic cohomology classes that satisfy some additional conditions. Applications to dg-algebras and QFT problems are briefly discussed.

Lie and Leibniz Algebras of Lower-Degree Conservation Laws

A relationship between the asymptotic and lower-degree conservation laws in (non-)linear gauge theories is considered. We show that the true algebraic structure underlying asymptotic charges is that of Leibniz rather than Lie. The Leibniz product is defined through the derived bracket construction for the natural Poisson brackets and the BRST differential. Only in particular, though not rare, cases that the Poisson brackets of lower-degree conservation laws vanish modulo central charges, the corresponding Leibniz algebra degenerates into a Lie one. The general construction is illustrated by two standard examples: Yang-Mills theory and Einstein's gravity.

Cup product on $A_\infty$-cohomology and deformations

We propose a simple method for constructing formal deformations of differential graded algebras in the category of minimal $A_\infty$-algebras. The basis for our approach is provided by the Gerstenhaber algebra structure on the $A_\infty$-cohomology, which we define in terms of the brace operations. As an example, we construct a minimal $A_\infty$-algebra from the Weyl-Moyal $\ast$-product algebra of polynomial functions.

On deformations of $A_\infty$-algebras

A simple method is proposed for deforming $A_\infty$-algebras by means of the resolution technique. The method is then applied to the associative algebras of polynomial functions on quantum superspaces. Specifically, by introducing suitable resolutions, we construct explicit deformations of these algebras in the category of minimal $A_\infty$-algebras. The relation of these deformations to higher spin gravities is briefly discussed.

A simple construction of associative deformations

We propose a simple approach to formal deformations of associative algebras. It exploits the machinery of multiplicative coresolutions of an associative algebra A in the category of A-bimodules. Specifically, we show that certain first-order deformations of A extend to all orders and we derive explicit recurrent formulas determining this extension. In physical terms, this may be regarded as the deformation quantization of noncommutative Poisson structures on A.

Hochschild cohomology of the Weyl algebra and Vasiliev's equations

We propose a simple injective resolution for the Hochschild complex of the Weyl algebra. By making use of this resolution, we derive explicit expressions for nontrivial cocycles of the Weyl algebra with coefficients in twisted bimodules as well as for the smash products of the Weyl algebra and a finite group of linear symplectic transformations. A relationship with the higher-spin field theory is briefly discussed.

Variational Tricomplex, Global Symmetries and Conservation Laws of Gauge Systems

Using the concept of variational tricomplex endowed with a presymplectic structure, we formulate the general notion of symmetry. We show that each generalized symmetry of a gauge system gives rise to a sequence of conservation laws that are represented by on-shell closed forms of various degrees. This extends the usual Noether's correspondence between global symmetries and conservation laws to the case of lower-degree conservation laws and not necessarily variational equations of motion. Finally, we equip the space of conservation laws of a given degree with a Lie bracket and establish a homomorphism of the resulting Lie algebra to the Lie algebra of global symmetries.

Lifting a Weak Poisson Bracket to the Algebra of Forms

We detail the construction of a weak Poisson bracket over a submanifold of a smooth manifold M with respect to a local foliation of this submanifold. Such a bracket satisfies a weak type Jacobi identity but may be viewed as a usual Poisson bracket on the space of leaves of the foliation. We then lift this weak Poisson bracket to a weak odd Poisson bracket on the odd tangent bundle, interpreted as a weak Koszul bracket on differential forms on M. This lift is achieved by encoding the weak Poisson structure into a homotopy Poisson structure on an extended manifold, and lifting the Hamiltonian function that generates this structure. Such a construction has direct physical interpretation. For a generic gauge system, the submanifold may be viewed as a stationary surface or a constraint surface, with the foliation given by the foliation of the gauge orbits. Through this interpretation, the lift of the weak Poisson structure is simply a lift of the action generating the corresponding BRST operator of the system.

On presymplectic structures for massless higher-spin fields

A natural presymplectic structure for non-Lagrangian equations of motion governing the dynamics of free higher-spin fields in four-dimensional anti-de Sitter space is proposed. This presymplectic structure is then used to the derivation of the conserved currents associated with the relativistic invariance and to the construction of local functionals of fields that are gauge invariant on shell.

Variational tricomplex of a local gauge system, Lagrange structure and weak Poisson bracket

We introduce the concept of a variational tricomplex, which is applicable both to variational and non-variational gauge systems. Assigning this tricomplex with an appropriate symplectic structure and a Cauchy foliation, we establish a general correspondence between the Lagrangian and Hamiltonian pictures of one and the same (not necessarily variational) dynamics. In practical terms, this correspondence allows one to construct the generating functional of weak Poisson structure starting from that of Lagrange structure. As a byproduct, a covariant procedure is proposed for deriving the classical BRST charge of the BFV formalism by a given BV master action. The general approach is illustrated by the examples of Maxwell's electrodynamics and chiral bosons in two dimensions.

On covariant Poisson brackets in field theory

A general approach is proposed to constructing covariant Poisson brackets in the space of histories of a classical field-theoretical model. The approach is based on the concept of Lagrange anchor, which was originally developed as a tool for path-integral quantization of Lagrangian and non-Lagrangian dynamics. The proposed covariant Poisson brackets generalize the Peierls' bracket construction known in the Lagrangian field theory.
