Type-I Intermittency With Noise Versus Eyelet Intermittency

In this article we compare the characteristics of two types of the intermittent behavior (type-I intermittency in the presence of noise and eyelet intermittency taking place in the vicinity of the chaotic phase synchronization boundary) supposed hitherto to be different phenomena. We show that these effects are the same type of dynamics observed under different conditions. The correctness of our conclusion is confirmed by the consideration of different sample systems, such as quadratic map, Van der Pol oscillator and Rossler system. Consideration of the problem concerning the upper boundary of the intermittent behavior also confirms the validity of the statement on the equivalence of type-I intermittency in the presence of noise and eyelet intermittency observed in the onset of phase synchronization.

Generalized synchronization in mutually coupled oscillators and complex networks

We introduce a novel concept of generalized synchronization, able to encompass the setting of collective synchronized behavior for mutually coupled systems and networking systems featuring complex topologies in their connections. The onset of the synchronous regime is confirmed by the dependence of the system's Lyapunov exponents on the coupling parameter. The presence of a generalized synchronization regime is verified by means of the nearest neighbor method.

Effect of External Magnetic Field on Critical Current for the Onset of Virtual Cathode Oscillations in Relativistic Electron Beams

In this Letter we research the space charge limiting current value at which the oscillating virtual cathode is formed in the relativistic electron beam as a function of the external magnetic field guiding the beam electrons. It is shown that the space charge limiting (critical) current decreases with growth of the external magnetic field, and that there is an optimal induction value of the magnetic field at which the critical current for the onset of virtual cathode oscillations in the electron beam is minimum. For the strong external magnetic field the space charge limiting current corresponds to the analytical relation derived under the assumption that the motion of the electron beam is one-dimensional [High Power Microwave Sources. Artech House Microwave Library, 1987. Chapter~13]. Such behavior is explained by the characteristic features of the dynamics of electron space charge in the longitudinal and radial directions in the drift space at the different external magnetic fields.

Detecting unstable periodic spatio-temporal states of spatial extended chaotic systems

The method of detection of the unstable periodic spatio-temporal states of spatial extended chaotic systems has been proposed. The application of this method is illustrated by the consideration of two different systems: i) the fluid model of Pierce diode being one of the fundamental system of the physics of plasmas and microwave electronics and ii) the complex one-dimensional Ginzburg-Landau equation demonstrating different regimes of spatio-temporal chaos.

Diagnostics of the Synchronization of Self-Oscillatory Systems by an External Force with Varying Frequency with the Use of Wavelet Analysis

A diagnostics method based on a continuous wavelet transform is proposed. This method makes it possible to diagnose the presence of synchronization of the oscillations of a self-excited oscillator locked by an external force with a linearly modulated frequency and to distinguish such a situation from the case when an external signal leaks into self-oscillations; i.e., the signals are summed without a change in the self-oscillation frequency. The method's efficiency is shown with the use of a Van der Pol generator and experimental physiological data as examples.

Time scale synchronization of chaotic oscillators

This paper presents the result of the investigation of chaotic oscillator synchronization. A new approach for detecting of synchronized behaviour of chaotic oscillators has been proposed. This approach is based on the analysis of different time scales in the time series generated by the coupled chaotic oscillators. This approach has been applied for the coupled Rossler and Lorenz systems.
