Computation of Internal Fluid Flows in Channels Using the Package CFX-5

The paper presents the results of computation of some simple internal flows of incompressible fluid with the software package CFX-5. In the previous paper of the author, the same flows were used for testing of another CFD software tool, FlowVision. The model equations used for this research are again the set of Reynolds and continuity equations and equations of the standard k - e turbulence model. The results of computation of a number of internal fluid flows in channels are presented and comparison with known experimental data is performed. Good correspondence of results was obtained both concerning the flow pattern and related integral values.

Capabilities of Numerical Simulation of Multiphase Flows in Centrifugal Pumps using Modern CFD Software

The paper describes capabilities of numerical simulation of liquid flows with solid and/or gas admixtures in centrifugal pumps using modern commercial CFD software packages, with the purpose to predict performance curves of the pumps treating such media. In particular, the approaches and multiphase flow models available in the package CFX-5 are described; their advantages and disadvantages are analyzed.

Investigation of Flow Inside an Axial-Flow Pump of GV - IMP Type

The article describes research of fluid flow inside an axial-flow pump that includes guide vanes, impeller and discharge diffuser. Three impellers with different hub ratio were researched. The article presents the performance curves and velocity distributions behind each of the impeller obtained by computational and experimental ways at six different capacities. The velocity distributions behind the detached guide vanes of different hub ratio are also presented. The computational results were obtained using the software tools CFX-BladeGenPlus and CFX-TASCflow. The experimental performance curves were obtained using the standard procedure. The experimental velocity distributions were obtained by probing of the flow. Good correspondence of results, both for performance curves and velocity distributions, was obtained for most of the considered cases. As it was demonstrated, the performance curves of the pump depend essentially on the impeller hub ratio. Velocity distributions behind the impeller depend strongly on the impeller hub ratio and capacity. Conclusions concerning these dependencies are drawn.

Contemporary Approach for Simulation and Computation of Fluid Flows in Centrifugal Hydromachines

The article describes various aspects of mathematical modeling of fluid flows, both in general and with reference to hydraulic machinery. The article reviews historical development of corresponding methods of mathematical modeling. Implementation of these aspects in modern commercial CFD software tools is described together with advantages and disadvantages of implemented methods. The conclusion is drawn concerning possibilities of computation of fluid flows nowadays.

Possibilities of Simulation of Fluid Flows Using the Modern CFD Software Tools

The article reviews fluid flow models implemented in the leading CFD software tools and designed for simulation of multi-component and multi-phase flows, compressible flows, flows with heat transfer, cavitation and other phenomena. The article shows that these software tools (CFX, Fluent, STAR-CD, etc.) allow for adequate simulation of complex physical effects of different nature, even for problems where performing of physical experiment is extremely difficult.

Computation of Internal Fluid Flows in Channels Using the CFD Software Tool FlowVision

The article describes the CFD software tool FlowVision (OOO "Tesis", Moscow). The model equations used for this research are the set of Reynolds and continuity equations and equations of the standard k - e turbulence model. The aim of the paper was testing of FlowVision by comparing the computational results for a number of simple internal channel fluid flows with known experimental data. The test cases are non-swirling and swirling flows in pipes and diffusers, flows in stationary and rotating bends. Satisfactory correspondence of results was obtained both for flow patterns and respective quantitative values.
