Recurrence in collective dynamics: From the hyperspace to fuzzy dynamical systems

We study for a dynamical system $f:X\longrightarrow X$ some of the principal topological recurrence-kind properties with respect to the induced maps $\overline{f}:\mathcal{K}(X)\longrightarrow\mathcal{K}(X)$, on the hyperspace of non-empty compact subsets of $X$, and $\hat{f}:\mathcal{F}(X)\longrightarrow\mathcal{F}(X)$, on the space of normal fuzzy sets consisting of the upper-semicontinuous functions $u:X\longrightarrow [0,1]$ with compact support and such that $u^{-1}(\{1\})\neq\varnothing$. In particular, we characterize the properties of topological and multiple recurrence for the extended systems $(\mathcal{K}(X),\overline{f})$ and $(\mathcal{F}(X),\hat{f})$, which cover the cases of the so-called nonwandering and Van der Waerden systems. Special attention is given to the case where the underlying space is completely metrizable, for which we obtain some stronger point-recurrence equivalences.

Generalized Hyperbolicity, Stability and Expansivity for Operators on Locally Convex Spaces

We introduce and study the notions of (generalized) hyperbolicity, topological stability and (uniform) topological expansivity for operators on locally convex spaces. We prove that every generalized hyperbolic operator on a locally convex space has the finite shadowing property. Contrary to what happens in the Banach space setting, hyperbolic operators on Fr\'echet spaces may fail to have the shadowing property, but we find additional conditions that ensure the validity of the shadowing property. Assuming that the space is sequentially complete, we prove that generalized hyperbolicity implies the strict periodic shadowing property, but we also show that the hypothesis of sequential completeness is essential. We show that operators with the periodic shadowing property on topological vector spaces have other interesting dynamical behaviors, including the fact that the restriction of such an operator to its chain recurrent set is topologically mixing and Devaney chaotic. We prove that topologically stable operators on locally convex spaces have the finite shadowing property and the strict periodic shadowing property. As a consequence, topologically stable operators on Banach spaces have the shadowing property. Moreover, we prove that generalized hyperbolicity implies topological stability for operators on Banach spaces. We prove that uniformly topologically expansive operators on locally convex spaces are neither Li-Yorke chaotic nor topologically transitive. Finally, we characterize the notion of topological expansivity for weighted shifts on Fr\'echet sequence spaces. Several examples are provided.

Questions in linear recurrence: From the $T\oplus T$-problem to lineability

We study, for a continuous linear operator $T$ on an F-space $X$, when the direct sum operator $T\oplus T$ is recurrent on $X\oplus X$. In particular: we establish, for recurrence, the analogous notion to that of (topological) weak-mixing for transitivity/hypercyclicity, namely quasi-rigidity; and we construct a recurrent but not quasi-rigid operator on each infinite-dimensional Banach space, solving the $T\oplus T$-recurrence problem in the negative way. The quasi-rigidity notion is closely related to the dense lineability of the set of recurrent vectors, and using similar conditions we study the lineability and dense lineability properties for the set of $\mathcal{F}$-recurrent vectors. Frequently recurrent operators

Motivated by a recent investigation of Costakis et al. on the notion of recurrence in linear dynamics, we study various stronger forms of recurrence for linear operators, in particular that of frequent recurrence. We study, among other things, the relationship between a type of recurrence and the corresponding notion of hypercyclicity, the influence of power boundedness, and the interplay between recurrence and spectral properties. We obtain, in particular, Ansari- and L\'eon-M\"uller-type theorems for $\mathcal{F}$-recurrence under very weak assumptions on the Furstenberg family $\mathcal{F}$. This allows us, as a by-product, to deduce Ansari- and L\'eon-M\"uller-type theorems for $\mathcal{F}$-hypercyclicity.

Dynamics of shift operators on non-metrizable sequence spaces

We investigate dynamical properties such as topological transitivity, (sequential) hypercyclicity, and chaos for backward shift operators associated to a Schauder basis on LF-spaces. As an application, we characterize these dynamical properties for weighted generalized backward shifts on K\"othe coechelon sequence spaces $k_p((v^{(m)})_{m\in\mathbb{N}})$ in terms of the defining sequence of weights $(v^{(m)})_{m\in\mathbb{N}}$. We further discuss several examples and show that the annihilation operator from quantum mechanics is mixing, sequentially hypercyclic, chaotic, and topologically ergodic on $\mathscr{S}'(\mathbb{R})$.

Rate of Growth of Distributionally Chaotic Functions

We investigate the permissible growth rates of functions that are distributionally chaotic with respect to differentiation operators. We improve on the known growth estimates for $D$-distributionally chaotic entire functions, where growth is in terms of average $L^p$-norms on spheres of radius $r>0$ as $r \to \infty$, for $1 \leq p \leq \infty$. We compute growth estimates of $\partial/ \partial x_k$-distributionally chaotic harmonic functions in terms of the average $L^2$-norm on spheres of radius $r>0$ as $r \to \infty$. We also calculate sup-norm growth estimates of distributionally chaotic harmonic functions in the case of the partial differentiation operators $D^\alpha$.

A hypercyclicity criterion for non-metrizable topological vector spaces

We provide a sufficient condition for an operator $T$ on a non-metrizable and sequentially separable topological vector space $X$ to be sequentially hypercyclic. This condition is applied to some particular examples, namely, a composition operator on the space of real analytic functions on $]0,1[$, which solves two problems of Bonet and Doma\'nski \cite{bd12}, and the "snake shift" constructed in \cite{bfpw} on direct sums of sequence spaces. The two examples have in common that they do not admit a densely embedded F-space $Y$ for which the operator restricted to $Y$ is continuous and hypercyclic, i.e., the hypercyclicity of these operators cannot be a consequence of the comparison principle with hypercyclic operators on F-spaces.

Finite intersection property and dynamical compactness

Dynamical compactness with respect to a family as a new concept of chaoticity of a dynamical system was introduced and discussed in [22]. In this paper we continue to investigate this notion. In particular, we prove that all dynamical systems are dynamically compact with respect to a Furstenberg family if and only if this family has the finite intersection property. We investigate weak mixing and weak disjointness by using the concept of dynamical compactness. We also explore further difference between transitive compactness and weak mixing. As a byproduct, we show that the $\omega_{\mathcal{F}}$-limit and the $\omega$-limit sets of a point may have quite different topological structure. Moreover, the equivalence between multi-sensitivity, sensitive compactness and transitive sensitivity is established for a minimal system. Finally, these notions are also explored in the context of linear dynamics.
