Odd Entanglement Entropy and Logarithmic Negativity for Thermofield Double States

We investigate the time evolution of odd entanglement entropy (OEE) and logarithmic negativity (LN) for the thermofield double (TFD) states in free scalar quantum field theories using the covariance matrix approach. To have mixed states, we choose non-complementary subsystems, either adjacent or disjoint intervals on each side of the TFD. We find that the time evolution pattern of OEE is a linear growth followed by saturation. On a circular lattice, for longer times the finite size effect demonstrates itself as oscillatory behavior. In the limit of vanishing mass, for a subsystem containing a single degree of freedom on each side of the TFD, we analytically find the effect of zero-mode on the time evolution of OEE which leads to logarithmic growth in the intermediate times. Moreover, for adjacent intervals we find that the LN is zero for times $t < β/2$ (half of the inverse temperature) and after that, it begins to grow linearly. For disjoint intervals at fixed temperature, the vanishing of LN is observed for times $t<d/2$ (half of the distance between intervals). We also find a similar delay to see linear growth of $ΔS=S_{\text{OEE}}-S_{\text{EE}}$. All these results show that the dynamics of these measures are consistent with the quasi-particle picture, of course apart from the logarithmic growth.

Island in the Presence of Higher Derivative Terms

Using extended island formula we compute entanglement entropy of Hawking radiation for black hole solutions of certain gravitational models containing higher derivative terms. To be concrete we consider two different four dimensional models to compute entropy for both asymptotically flat and AdS black holes. One observes that the resultant entropy follows the Page curve, thanks to the contribution of the island, despite the fact that the corresponding gravitational models might be non-unitary.

On Free Energy for Deformed JT Gravity

In this paper, we study a particular deformation of the Jackiw-Teitelboim gravity recently considered by Maxfield, Turiaci and independently by Witten. We will compute the partition function of this model as well as its higher order correlators to all orders in genus expansion in the low temperature limit for small perturbations. In this limit, the results match with those obtained from the Airy limit of a Hermitian random matrix ensemble. Using this result, we will also study the free energy of the model. One observes that although the annealed free energy has pathological behaviors, under certain assumptions, the quenched free energy evaluated by replica trick exhibits the desired properties at low temperatures.

On the first law of holographic complexity

In this paper, we examine the proposed first law of holographic complexity through studying different perturbations around various spacetime backgrounds. We present a general expression for the variation of the holographic complexity on arbitrary backgrounds by an explicit covariant computation. Interestingly, the general expression can be written as a function of gravitational conserved charges reminiscent of the first law of thermodynamics.

Complexity for Charged Thermofield Double States

We study Nielsen's circuit complexity for a charged thermofield double state (cTFD) of free complex scalar quantum field theory in the presence of background electric field. We show that the ratio of the complexity of formation for cTFD state to the thermodynamic entropy is finite and it depends just on the temperature and chemical potential. Moreover, this ratio smoothly approaches the value for real scalar theory. We compare our field theory calculations with holographic complexity of charged black holes and confirm that the same cost function which is used for neutral case continues to work in presence of $U(1)$ background field. For $t>0$, the complexity of cTFD state evolves in time and contrasts with holographic results, it saturates after a time of the order of inverse temperature. This discrepancy can be understood by the fact that holographic QFTs are actually strong interacting theories, not free ones.

Path Integral Optimization for $T\bar{T}$ Deformation

We use the path integral optimization approach of Caputa, kundu, Miyaji, Takayanagi and Watanabe to find the time slice of geometries dual to vacuum, primary and thermal states in the $T\bar{T}$ deformed two dimensional CFTs. The obtained optimized geometries actually capture the entire bulk which fits well with the integrability and expected UV-completeness of $T\bar{T}$-deformed CFTs. When deformation parameter is positive, these optimized solutions can be reinterpreted as geometries at finite bulk radius, in agreement with a previous proposal by McGough, Mezei and Verlinde. We also calculate the holographic entanglement entropy and quantum state complexity for these solutions. We show that the complexity of formation for the thermofield double state in the deformed theory is UV finite and it depends to the temperature.

More on Complexity in Finite Cut Off Geometry

It has been recently proposed that late time behavior of holographic complexity in a uncharged black brane solution of Einstein-Hilbert theory with boundary cut off is consistent with Lloyd's bound if we have a cut off behind the horizon. Interestingly, the value of this new cut off is fixed by the boundary cut off. In this paper, we extend this analysis to the charged black holes. Concretely, we find the value of this new cut off for charged small black hole solutions of Einstein-Hilbert-Maxwell theory, in which the proposed bound on the complexification is saturated. We also explore this new cut off in Gauss-Bonnet-Maxwell theory.

Complexity and Behind the Horizon Cut Off

Motivated by $T{\overline T}$ deformation of a conformal field theory we compute holographic complexity for a black brane solution with a cut off using "complexity=action" proposal. In order to have a late time behavior consistent with Lloyd's bound one is forced to have a cut off behind the horizon whose value is fixed by the boundary cut off. Using this result we compute holographic complexity for two dimensional AdS solutions where we get expected late times linear growth. It is in contrast with the naively computation which is done without assuming the cut off where the complexity approaches a constant at the late time.

Renormalization Group Circuits for Weakly Interacting Continuum Field Theories

We develop techniques to systematically construct local unitaries which map scale-invariant, product state wavefunctionals to the ground states of weakly interacting, continuum quantum field theories. More broadly, we devise a "quantum circuit perturbation theory" to construct local unitaries which map between any pair of wavefunctionals which are each Gaussian with arbitrary perturbative corrections. Further, we generalize cMERA to interacting continuum field theories, which requires reworking the existing formalism which is tailored to non-interacting examples. Our methods enable the systematic perturbative calculation of cMERA circuits for weakly interacting theories, and as a demonstration we compute the 1-loop cMERA circuit for scalar $φ^4$ theory and analyze its properties. In this case, we show that Wilsonian renormalization of the spatial momentum modes is equivalent to a local position space cMERA circuit. This example provides new insights into the connection between position space and momentum space renormalization group methods in quantum field theory. The form of cMERA circuits derived from perturbation theory suggests useful ansatzes for numerical variational calculations.

Entanglement Renormalization for Weakly Interacting Fields

We adapt the techniques of entanglement renormalization tensor networks to weakly interacting quantum field theories in the continuum. A key tool is "quantum circuit perturbation theory," which enables us to systematically construct unitaries that map between wavefunctionals which are Gaussian with arbitrary perturbative corrections. As an application, we construct a local, continuous MERA (cMERA) circuit that maps an unentangled scale-invariant state to the ground state of $φ^4$ theory to 1-loop. Our local cMERA circuit corresponds exactly to 1-loop Wilsonian RG on the spatial momentum modes. In other words, we establish that perturbative Wilsonian RG on spatial momentum modes can be equivalently recast as a local cMERA circuit in $φ^4$ theory, and argue that this correspondence holds more generally. Our analysis also suggests useful numerical ansatzes for cMERA in the non-perturbative regime.

New Bi-Gravities

We show that the problem of ghosts in critical gravity and its higher dimensional extensions can be resolved by giving dynamics to the symmetric rank two auxiliary field existing in the action of these theories. These New Bi-Gravities, at linear level around the AdS vacuum, are free of Boulware-Deser ghost, kinetic ghost and tachyonic instability within the particular range of parameters. Moreover, we show that the energy and entropy of AdS-Schwarzschild black hole solutions of these new models are positive in the same range of parameters. This may be the sign that these new models are also free of ghost instabilities at the non-linear level.

On Complexity for Higher Derivative Gravities

Using "complexity=action" proposal we study complexity growth of certain gravitational theories containing higher derivative terms. These include critical gravity in diverse dimensions. One observes that the complexity growth for neutral black holes saturates the proposed bound when the results are written in terms of physical quantities of the model. We will also study effects of shock wave to the complexity growth where we find that the presence of massive spin-2 mode slows down the rate of growth.

Phase transitions in Bergshoeff-Hohm-Townsend Massive Gravity

We present the Hawking-Page phase diagrams in the Bergshoeff-Hohm-Townsend (BHT) massive gravity theory for different solutions, such as the phase transitions between vacuum $\text{AdS}_3$ and BTZ black hole, warped $\text{AdS}_3$ and warped BTZ black hole in grand canonical and in non-local/quadratic ensembles, Lifshitz black hole and the new hairy black hole solutions. We observe that except for the black holes in quadratic ensemble, for other cases in the non-chiral theory of BHT the phase diagrams are symmetric with respect to the direction of angular momentum, as we expected. We conclude that for presenting the phase diagrams of warped $\text{AdS}_3$ black holes, only the grand canonical ensemble should be used.

Aspects of Ultra-Relativistic Field Theories via Flat-space Holography

Recently it was proposed that asymptotically flat spacetimes have a holographic dual which is an ultra-relativistic conformal field theory. In this paper, we obtain the conformal anomaly for such a theory via the flat-space holography technique. Furthermore, using flat-space holography we obtain a C-function for this theory which is monotonically decreasing from the UV to the IR by employing the null energy condition in the bulk.

On Butterfly effect in Higher Derivative Gravities

We study butterfly effect in $D$-dimensional gravitational theories containing terms quadratic in Ricci scalar and Ricci tensor. One observes that due to higher order derivatives in the corresponding equations of motion there are two butterfly velocities. The velocities are determined by the dimension of operators whose sources are provided by the metric. The three dimensional TMG model is also studied where we get two butterfly velocities at generic point of the moduli space of parameters. At critical point two velocities coincide.

Scale vs Conformal invariance from Entanglement Entropy

For a generic conformal field theory (CFT) in four dimensions, the scale anomaly dictates that the universal part of entanglement entropy across a sphere ($\mathcal{C}_{\text{univ}}(S^{2})$) is positive. Based on this fact, we explore the consequences of assuming positive sign for $\mathcal{C}_{\text{univ}}(S^{2})$ in a four dimensional scale invariant theory (SFT). In absence of a dimension two scalar operator $\mathcal{O}_{2}$ in the spectrum of a SFT, we show that this assumption suggests that SFT is a CFT. In presence of $\mathcal{O}_{2}$, we show that this assumption can fix the coefficient of the nonlinear coupling term $\int\hspace{-.5mm} d^{4}x\sqrt{g} R\mathcal{O}_{2}$ to a conformal value.

New Bi-Gravity from New Massive Garvity

Using the action of three dimensional New Massive Gravity (NMG) we construct a new bi-gravity in three dimensions. This can be done by promoting the rank two auxiliary field appearing in the expression of NMG's action into a dynamical field. We show that small fluctuations around the AdS vacuum of the model are non-tachyonic and ghost free within certain range of the parameters of the model. We study central charges of the dual field theory and observe that in this range they are positive too. This suggests that the proposed model might be a consistent three dimensional bi-gravity.

Holographic Renormalization of 3D Minimal Massive Gravity

We study holographic renormalization of 3D minimal massive gravity using the Chern-Simons-like formulation of the model. We explicitly present Gibbons- Hawking term as well as all counterterms needed to make the action finite in terms of dreibein and spin-connection. This can be used to find correlation functions of stress tensor of holographic dual field theory.
