Single-quanta interferometry: which-way versus which-phase information stored in an ancillary quantum system

In interferometers, the more information about the quanta's path available in an ancillary quantum system (AQS), the less visibility the interference has. By use of Shannon entropy, we try to compare the amount of which-phase information with the amount of which-way information stored in the AQS of two-path interferometers with symmetric beam merging. We show that the former is lower than or equal the latter if the bipartite system of the single-quanta and the AQS is initially prepared in a pure state and the interaction between the two parts is unitary. Especially when there exists symmetry, the equality holds. No which-way information is obtained by the measurement that we use for extracting the which-phase information and vice versa. In order to verify the results experimentally, we propose assembling a new single-photon interferometer.

Quantum optomechanics of a multimode system coupled via photothermal and radiation pressure force

We provide a full quantum description of the optomechanical system formed by a Fabry-Perot cavity with a movable micro-mechanical mirror whose center-of-mass and internal elastic modes are coupled to the driven cavity mode by both radiation pressure and photothermal force. Adopting a quantum Langevin description, we investigate simultaneous cooling of the micromirror elastic and center-of-mass modes, and also the entanglement properties of the optomechanical multipartite system in its steady state.

Improving the optomechanical entanglement and cooling by photothermal force

Cooling and Entanglement in optomechanical systems coupled through radiation pressure and photothermal force is studied. To develop the photothermal model, we derive an expression for deformation constant of the force. Exploiting linearized quantum Langevin equations we investigate dynamics of such systems. According to our analysis, in addition to separate action of radiation pressure and photothermal force, their cross correlation effect plays an important role in dynamics of the system. We also achieve an exact relation for the phonon number of the mechanical resonator in such systems, and then we derive an analytical expression for it at weak coupling limit. At strong coupling regime, we show that utilizing the photothermal pressure makes the ground state cooling more approachable. The effect of photothermal force on the optomechanical entanglement is investigated in detail. According to our exact numerical and approximate analytical studies, even though the photothermal force is naturally a dissipative force, it can improve the optomechanical entanglement both quantitatively and qualitatively.
