Malliavin Calculus for Degenerate Diffusions

Let $(W,H,μ)$ be the classical Wiener space on $\R^d$. Assume that $X=(X_t(x))$ is a diffusion process satisfying the stochastic differential equation with diffusion and drift coefficients $σ: \R^n\to \R^n\otimes \R^d$, $b: \R^n\to \R^n$, $B$ is an $\R^d$-valued Brownian motion. We suppose that $b$ and $σ$ are Lipschitz. Let $P(x)$ be the orthogonal projection from $\R^d$ to its closed subspace $σ(x)^\star(\R^n)$, assuming that $x\to P(x)$ is continuously differentiable, we construct a covariant derivative $\hat{\nabla}$ on the paths of the diffusion process, along the elements of the Cameron-Martin space and prove that this derivative is closable on $L^p(ν)$, where $ν$ represents the law of the above diffusion process, i.e., $ν=X(x)(μ)$, the image of the Wiener measure under the function $w\to X_\cdot(w,x)$. We study the adjoint of this operator and we prove several results: representation theorem for $L^2(ν)$-functionals, the logarithmic Sobolev inequality for $ν$. As applications of these results the proof of the Logarithmic Sobolev inequality on the path space of Dyson's Brownian motion is given by using the covariant derivative. We then explain how to use this theory for deriving the functional inequalities for the measures defined by the semigroups of the diffusion process at the time $t=1$ and with fixed starting point. Finally we show that one can obtain also these inequalities for the conditional measures due to a conditional independence result which is a consequence of the degeneracy of the diffusion process.

An anticipating tangent to a semimartingale

We construct a perturbation of identity type mapping on an abstract Wiener space where the Cameron-Martin space has an orthonormal basis indexed by the jumps a one dimensional semimartingale. We then derive a change of variables formula and a degree type result for this map.

Martingale representation for degenerate diffusions

Let $(W,H,μ)$ be the classical Wiener space on $\R^d$. Assume that $X=(X_t)$ is a diffusion process satisfying the stochastic differential equation $dX_t=σ(t,X)dB_t+b(t,X)dt$, where $σ:[0,1]\times C([0,1],\R^n)\to \R^n\otimes \R^d$, $b:[0,1]\times C([0,1],\R^n)\to \R^n$, $B$ is an $\R^d$-valued Brownian motion. We suppose that the weak uniqueness of this equation holds for any initial condition. We prove that any square integrable martingale $M$ w.r.t. to the filtration $(\calF_t(X),t\in [0,1])$ can be represented as $$ M_t=E[M_0]+\int_0^t P_s(X)α_s(X).dB_s $$ where $α(X)$ is an $\R^d$-valued process adapted to $(\calF_t(X),t\in [0,1])$, satisfying $E\int_0^t(a(X_s)α_s(X),α_s(X))ds<\infty$, $a=σ^\starσ$ and $P_s(X)$ denotes a measurable version of the orthogonal projection from $\R^d$ to $σ(X_s)^\star(\R^n)$. In particular, for any $h\in H$, we have \begin{equation} \label{wick} E[ρ(δh)|\calF_1(X)]=\exp\left(\int_0^1(P_s(X)\dot{h}_s,dB_s)-\half\int_0^1|P_s(X)\dot{h}_s|^2ds\right)\,, \end{equation} where $ρ(δh)=\exp(\int_0^1(\dot{h}_s,dB_s)-\half |H|_H^2)$. This result gives a new development as an infinite series of the $L^2$-functionals of the degenerate diffusions. We also give an adequate notion of "innovation process" associated to a degenerate diffusion which corresponds to the strong solution when the Brownian motion is replaced by an adapted perturbation of identity. This latter result gives the solution of the causal Monge-Ampère equation.}

Regularity of the conditional expectations with respect to signal to noise ratio

Let $(W,H,μ)$ be the classical Wiener space, assume that $U_\la=I_W+u_\la$ is an adapted perturbation of identity where the perturbation $u_\la$ is an $H$-valued map, defined up to $μ$-equivalence classes, such that its Lebesgue density $s\to \dot{u}_\la(s)$ is almost surely adapted to the canonical filtration of the Wiener space and depending measurably on a real parameter $\la$. Assuming some regularity for $u_\la$, its Sobolev derivative and integrability of the divergence of the resolvent operator of its Sobolev derivative, we prove the almost sure and $L^p$-regularity w.r. to $\la$ of the estimation $E[\dot{u}_\la(s)|\calU_\la(s)]$ and more generally of the conditional expectations of the type $E[F\mid\calU_\la(s)]$ for nice Wiener functionals, where $(\calU_\la(s),s\in [0,1])$ is the the filtration which is generated by $U_\la$. These results are applied to prove the invertibility of the adapted perturbations of identity, hence to prove the strong existence and uniqueness of functional SDE's; convexity of the entropy and the quadratic estimation error and finally to the information theory.

Entropy, Invertibility and Variational Calculus of the Adapted Shifts on Wiener space

In this work we study the necessary and sufficient conditions for a positive random variable whose expectation under the Wiener measure is one, to be represented as the Radon-Nikodym derivative of the image of the Wiener measure under an adapted perturbation of identity with the help of the associated innovation process. We prove that the innovation conjecture holds if and only if the original process is almost surely invertible. We also give variational characterizations of the invertibility of the perturbations of identity and the representability of a positive random variable whose total mass is equal to unity. We prove in particular that an adapted perturbation of identity $U=I_W+u$ satisfying the Girsanov theorem, is invertible if and only if the kinetic energy of $u$ is equal to the entropy of the measure induced with the action of $U$ on the Wiener measure $μ$, in other words $U$ is invertible iff $$ \half \int_W|u|_H^2dμ=\int_W \frac{dUμ}{dμ}\log\frac{dUμ}{dμ}dμ>. $$ otherwise the l.h.s. is always strictly greater than the r.h.s. The relations with the Monge-Kantorovitch measure transportation are also studied. An application of these results to a variational problem related to large deviations is also given.

Probabilistic solution of the American options

The existence and uniqueness of probabilistic solutions of variational inequalities for the general American options are proved under the hypothesis of hypoellipticity of the infinitesimal generator of the underlying diffusion process which represents the risky assets of the stock market with which the option is created. The main tool is an extension of the Itô formula which is valid for the tempered distributions on $\R^d$ and for nondegenerate Itô processes in the sense of the Malliavin calculus.

A necessary and sufficient condition for the invertibility of adapted perturbations of identity on the Wiener space

Let $(W,H,μ)$ be the classical Wiener space, assume that $U=I_W+u$ is an adapted perturbation of identity satisfying the Girsanov identity. Then, $U$ is invertible if and only if the kinetic energy of $u$ is equal to the relative entropy of the measure induced with the action of $U$ on the Wiener measure $μ$, in other words $U$ is invertible if and only if $$ \half \int_W|u|_H^2dμ=\int_W \frac{dUμ}{dμ}\log\frac{dUμ}{dμ}dμ. $$
