If the denominator of a rational function of several variables is sum of even powers and the numerator is a monomial, then we give a numerical criterion, using the exponents involved in the expression of the rational function, to decide if the limit at the origin exists or not.
In this paper we analyze both the scientific activities of Cahit Arf, a Turkish mathematician, and the social context in which he worked. We also discuss his work and social environment leading to the discovery of Arf invariant, Arf rings, Arf closure and Hasse-Arf theorem.
Reflection walls of certain primitive vectors in the anti-invariant sublattice of the K3 lattice define Heegner divisors in the period space of Enriques surfaces. We show that depending on the norm of these primitive vectors, these Heegner divisors are either irreducible or have two irreducible components. The two components are obtained as the walls orthogonal to primitive vectors of the same norm but of different type as ordinary or characteristic.
We determine the necessary and sufficient conditions on the entries of the intersection matrix of the transcendental lattice of a K3 surface for the K3 surface to doubly cover an Enriques surface.
