Maximal Entropy Measures for Non-Accessible Topological Skew Products

In this paper we establish a dichotomy for the ergodic measures of maximal entropy for partially hyperbolic diffeomorphisms with one-dimensional compact center leaves which are virtually skew products over (transitive) Anosov homeomorphism. We prove that if the whole manifold is the unique minimal invariant set saturated by unstable foliation, then either there exists a unique measure of maximal entropy which is non-hyperbolic or there are exactly two hyperbolic ergodic measures of maximal entropy.

Rigidity of Lyapunov exponents for derived from Anosov diffeomorphisms

For a class of volume preserving partially hyperbolic diffeomorphisms (or non-uniformly Anosov) $f\colon {\T}^d\rightarrow{\T}^d$ homotopic to linear Anosov automorphism, we show that the sum of the positive (negative) Lyapunov exponents of $f$ is bounded above (resp. below) by the sum of the positive (resp. negative) Lyapunov exponents of its linearization. We show this for some classes of derived from Anosov (DA) and non-uniformly hyperbolic systems with dominated splitting, in particular for examples described by C. Bonatti and Viana. The results in this paper address a flexibility program by J. Bochi, A. Katok and F. Rodriguez Hertz.

On the number of ergodic measures of maximal entropy for partially hyperbolic diffeomorphisms with compact center leaves

In this paper, we study the number of ergodic measures of maximal entropy for partially hyperbolic diffeomorphisms defined on $3-$torus with compact center leaves. Assuming the existence of a periodic leaf with Morse-Smale dynamics we prove a sharp upper bound for the number of maximal measures in terms of the number of sources and sinks of Morse-Smale dynamics. A well-known class of examples for which our results apply are the so-called Kan-type diffeomorphisms admitting physical measures with intermingled basins.

Unstable entropy in smooth ergodic theory

In this survey we recall basic notions of disintegration of measures and entropy along unstable laminations. We review some roles of unstable entropy in smooth ergodic theory including the so-called invariance principle, Margulis construction of measures of maximal entropy, physical measures and rigidity. We also give some new examples and pose some open questions.

A dichotomy for measures of maximal entropy near time-one maps of transitive Anosov flows

We show that time-one maps of transitive Anosov flows of compact manifolds are accumulated by diffeomorphisms robustly satisfying the following dichotomy: either all of the measures of maximal entropy are non-hyperbolic, or there are exactly two ergodic measures of maximal entropy, one with a positive central exponent and the other with a negative central exponent. We establish this dichotomy for certain partially hyperbolic diffeomorphisms isotopic to the identity whenever both of their strong foliations are minimal. Our proof builds on the approach developed by Margulis for Anosov flows where he constructs suitable families of measures on the dynamical foliations.

Invariance principle and rigidity of high entropy measures

A deep analysis of the Lyapunov exponents, for stationary sequence of matrices going back to Furstenberg, for more general linear cocycles by Ledrappier and generalized to the context of non-linear cocycles by Avila and Viana, gives an invariance principle for invariant measures with vanishing central exponents. In this paper, we give a new criterium formulated in terms of entropy for the invariance principle and in particular, obtain a simpler proof for some of the known invariance principle results. As a byproduct, we study ergodic measures of partially hyperbolic diffeomorphisms whose center foliation is 1-dimensional and forms a circle bundle. We show that for any such C2 diffeomorphism which is accessible, weak hyperbolicity of ergodic measures of high entropy implies that the system itself is of rotation type.

On the Bernoulli property for certain partially hyperbolic diffeomorphisms

We address the classical problem of equivalence between Kolmogorov and Bernoulli property of smooth dynamical systems. In a natural class of volume preserving partially hyperbolic diffeomorphisms homotopic to Anosov ("derived from Anosov") on 3-torus, we prove that Kolmogorov and Bernoulli properties are equivalent. In our approach, we propose to study the conditional measures of volume along central foliation to recover fine ergodic properties for partially hyperbolic diffeomorphisms. As an important consequence we obtain that there exists an almost everywhere conjugacy between any volume preserving derived from Anosov diffeomorphism of 3-torus and its linearization. Our results also hold in higher dimensional case when central bundle is one dimensional and stable and unstable foliations are quasi-isometric.

SRB measures and homoclinic relation for Endomorphisms

In this paper we give an upper bound for the number of SRB measures of saddle type of local diffeomorphisms of boundaryless manifolds in terms of maximal cardinality of set of periodic points without any homoclinic relation.

Center Lyapunov exponents in partially hyperbolic dynamics

We survey a collection of recent results on center Lyapunov exponents of partially hyperbolic diffeomorphisms. We explain several ideas in simplified setups and formulate the general versions of results. We also pose some open questions.

Mono-atomic disintegration and Lyapunov exponents for derived from Anosov diffeomorphisms

In this paper we mainly address the problem of disintegration of Lebesgue measure and measure of maximal entropy along the central foliation of (conservative) Derived from Anosov (DA) diffeomorphisms. We prove that for accessible DA diffeomorphisms of $\mathbb{T}^3$, atomic disintegration has the peculiarity of being mono-atomic (one atom per leaf). We further provide open and non-empty condition for the existence of atomic disintegration. Finally, we prove some new relations between Lyapunov exponents of DA diffeomorphisms and their linearization.

Central Lyapunov exponent of partially hyperbolic diffeomorphisms of $\mathbb{T}^3$

In this paper we construct some "pathological" volume preserving partially hyperbolic diffeomorphisms on $\toro{3}$ such that their behaviour in small scales in the central direction (Lyapunov exponent) is opposite to the behavior of their linearization. These examples are isotopic to Anosov. We also get partially hyperbolic diffeomorphisms isotopic to Anosov (consequently with non-compact central leaves) with zero central Lyapunov exponent at almost every point.

Homoclinic tangency and variation of entropy

In this paper we study the effect of a homoclinic tangency in the variation of the topological entropy. We prove that a diffeomorphism with a homoclinic tangency associated to a basic hyperbolic set with maximal entropy is a point of entropy variation in the $C^{\infty}$-topology. We also prove results about variation of entropy in other topologies and when the tangency does not correspond to a basic set with maximal entropy. We also show an example of discontinuity of the entropy among $C^{\infty}$ diffeomorphisms of three dimensional manifolds.

A lower bound for topological entropy of generic non Anosov symplectic diffeomorphisms

We prove that a $C^1-$generic symplectic diffeomorphism is either Anosov or the topological entropy is bounded from below by the supremum over the smallest positive Lyapunov exponent of the periodic points. We also prove that $C^1-$generic symplectic diffeomorphisms outside the Anosov ones do not admit symbolic extension and finally we give examples of volume preserving diffeomorphisms which are not point of upper semicontinuity of entropy function in $C^1-$topology.

Physical measures at the boundary of hyperbolic maps

We consider diffeomorphisms of a compact manifold with a dominated splitting which is hyperbolic except for a "small" subset of points (Hausdorff dimension smaller than one, e.g. a denumerable subset) and prove the existence of physical measures and their stochastical stability. The physical measures are obtained as zero-noise limits which are shown to satisfy the Entropy Formula.

Robustly transitive actions of $R^2$ on compact three manifolds

In this paper, we define $C^1$-robust transitivity for actions of $\RR^2$ on closed connected orientable manifolds. We prove that if the ambient manifold is three dimensional and the dense orbit of a robustly transitive action is not planar, then it is "degenerate" and the action is defined by an Anosov flow.
