Stationary Strings in the Spacetime of Rotating Black Holes in Five-Dimensional Minimal Gauged Supergravity

We examine the separability properties of the equation of motion for a stationary string near a rotating charged black hole with two independent angular momenta in five-dimensional minimal gauged supergravity. It is known that the separability problem for the stationary string in a general stationary spacetime is reduced to that for the usual Hamilton-Jacobi equation for geodesics of its quotient space with one dimension fewer. Using this fact, we show that the "effective metric" of the quotient space does not allow the complete separability for the Hamilton-Jacobi equation, albeit such a separability occurs in the original spacetime of the black hole. We also show that only for two special cases of interest the Hamilton-Jacobi equation admits the complete separation of variables and therefore the integrability for the stationary string motion in the original background: namely, when the black hole has zero electric charge or it has an arbitrary electric charge, but two equal angular momenta. We give the explicit expressions for the Killing tensors corresponding to these cases. However, for the general black hole spacetime the effective metric of the quotient space admits a conformal Killing tensor. We construct the explicit expression for this tensor.

Superradiant Instability of Five-Dimensional Rotating Charged AdS Black Holes

We study the instability of small AdS black holes with two independent rotation parameters in minimal five-dimensional gauged supergravity to massless scalar perturbations. We analytically solve the Klein-Gordon equation for low-frequency perturbations in two regions of the spacetime of these black holes: namely, in the region close to the horizon and in the far-region. By matching the solutions in an intermediate region, we calculate the frequency spectrum of quasinormal modes. We show that in the regime of superradiance only the modes of even orbital quantum number undergo negative damping, resulting in exponential growth of the amplitude. That is, the black holes become unstable to these modes. Meanwhile, the modes of odd orbital quantum number do not undergo any damping, oscillating with frequency-shifts. This is in contrast with the case of four-dimensional small Kerr-AdS black holes which exhibit the instability to all modes of scalar perturbations in the regime of superradiance.

Note on Rotating Charged Black Holes in Einstein-Maxwell-Chern-Simons Theory

We show that the general solution of Chong, Cvetic, Lu and Pope for nonextremal rotating charged black holes in five-dimensional minimal gauged supergravity, or equivalently in the Einstein-Maxwell-Chern-Simons theory with a negative cosmological constant and with the Chern-Simons coefficient $ ν=1 $, admits a simple description in a Kerr-Schild type framework with two scalar functions. Next, assuming this framework as an ansatz, we obtain new analytic solutions for slowly rotating charged black holes in the Einstein-Maxwell-Chern-Simons theory with $ ν\neq 1 .$ Using a covariant superpotential derived from Noether identities within the Katz-Bicak-Lynden-Bell approach, we calculate the mass and angular momenta for the general supergravity solution as well as for the slowly rotating solution with two independent rotation parameters. For the latter case, we also calculate the gyromagnetic ratios and obtain simple analytic formulas, involving both the parameters of the black holes and the Chern-Simons coefficient.

Stationary Spinning Strings and Symmetries of Classical Spacetimes

We explore the symmetries of classical stationary spacetimes in terms of the dynamics of a spinning string described by a worldsheet supersymmetric action. We show that for stationary configurations of the string, the action reduces to that for a pseudo-classical spinning point particle in an effective space, which is a conformally scaled quotient space of the original spacetime. As an example, we consider the stationary spinning string in the Kerr-Newman spacetime, whose motion is equivalent to that of the spinning point particle in the three-dimensional effective space. We present the Killing tensor as well as the spin-valued Killing vector of this space. However, the nongeneric supersymmetry corresponding to the Killing-Yano tensor of the Kerr-Newman spacetime is lost in the effective space.

Kerr-Taub-NUT Spacetime with Maxwell and Dilaton Fields

We present an exact solution describing a stationary and axisymmetric object with electromagnetic and dilaton fields. The solution generalizes the usual Kerr-Taub-NUT (Newman-Unti-Tamburino) spacetime in general relativity and is obtained by boosting this spacetime in the fifth dimension and performing a Kaluza-Klein reduction to four dimensions. We also discuss the physical parameters of this solution and calculate its gyromagnetic ratio.

Rotating Spacetimes with Asymptotic Non-Flat Structure and the Gyromagnetic Ratio

In general relativity, the gyromagnetic ratio for all stationary, axisymmetric and asymptotically flat Einstein-Maxwell fields is known to be g=2. In this paper, we continue our previous works of examination this result for rotating charged spacetimes with asymptotic non-flat structure. We first consider two instructive examples of these spacetimes: The spacetime of a Kerr-Newman black hole with a straight cosmic string on its axis of symmetry and the Kerr-Newman Taub-NUT spacetime. We show that for both spacetimes the gyromagnetic ratio g=2 independent of their asymptotic structure. We also extend this result to a general class of metrics which admit separation of variables for the Hamilton-Jacobi and wave equations. We proceed with the study of the gyromagnetic ratio in higher dimensions by considering the general solution for rotating charged black holes in minimal five-dimensional gauged supergravity. We obtain the analytic expressions for two distinct gyromagnetic ratios of these black holes that are associated with their two independent rotation parameters. These expressions reveal the dependence of the gyromagnetic ratio on both the curvature radius of the AdS background and the parameters of the black holes: The mass, electric charge and two rotation parameters. We explore some special cases of interest and show that when the two rotation parameters are equal to each other and the rotation occurs at the maximum angular velocity, the gyromagnetic ratio g=4 regardless of the value of the electric charge. This agrees precisely with our earlier result obtained for general Kerr-AdS black holes with a test electric charge. We also show that in the BPS limit the gyromagnetic ratio for a supersymmetric black hole with equal rotation parameters ranges between 2 and 4.

Gyromagnetic Ratio of Charged Kerr-Anti-de Sitter Black Holes

We examine the gyromagnetic ratios of rotating and charged AdS black holes in four and higher spacetime dimensions. We compute the gyromagnetic ratio for Kerr-AdS black holes with an arbitrary electric charge in four dimensions and show that it corresponds to g=2 irrespective of the AdS nature of the spacetime. We also compute the gyromagnetic ratio for Kerr-AdS black holes with a single angular momentum and with a test electric charge in all higher dimensions. The gyromagnetic ratio crucially depends on the dimensionless ratio of the rotation parameter to the curvature radius of the AdS background. At the critical limit, when the boundary Einstein universe is rotating at the speed of light, it exhibits a striking feature leading to g=2 regardless of the spacetime dimension. Next, we extend our consideration to include the exact metric for five-dimensional rotating charged black holes in minimal gauged supergravity. We show that the value of the gyromagnetic ratio found in the "test-charge" approach remains unchanged for these black holes.

Electromagnetic Properties of Kerr-Anti-de Sitter Black Holes

We examine the electromagnetic properties of Kerr-anti-de Sitter (Kerr-AdS) black holes in four and higher spacetime dimensions. Assuming that the black holes may carry a test electric charge we show that the Killing one-form which represents the difference between the timelike generators in the spacetime and in the reference background can be used as a potential one-form for the associated electromagnetic field. In four dimensions the potential one-form and the Kerr-AdS metric with properly re-scaled mass parameter solve the Einstein-Maxwell equations, thereby resulting in the familiar Kerr-Newman-AdS solution. We solve the quartic equation governing the location of the event horizons of the Kerr-Newman-AdS black holes and present closed analytic expressions for the radii of the horizons. We also compute the gyromagnetic ratio for these black holes and show that it corresponds to g=2 just as for ordinary black holes in asymptotically flat spacetime. Next, we compute the gyromagnetic ratio for the Kerr-AdS black holes with a single angular momentum and with a test electric charge in all higher dimensions. The gyromagnetic ratio crucially depends on the dimensionless ratio of the rotation parameter to the curvature radius of the AdS background. At the critical limit, when the boundary Einstein universe is rotating at the speed of light, it tends to g=2 irrespective of the spacetime dimension. Finally, we consider the case of a five dimensional Kerr-AdS black hole with two angular momenta and show that it possesses two distinct gyromagnetic ratios in accordance with its two orthogonal 2-planes of rotation. In the special case of two equal angular momenta, the two gyromagnetic ratios merge into one leading to g=4 at the maximum angular velocities of rotation.

Rotating Braneworld Black Holes

We present a Kerr-Newman type stationary and axisymmetric solution that describes rotating black holes with a tidal charge in the Randall-Sundrum braneworld. The tidal charge appears as an imprint of nonlocal gravitational effects from the bulk space. We also discuss the physical properties of these black holes and their possible astrophysical appearance.
