A short way of counting maps to hypersurfaces in Grassmannians

Using a Quot scheme compactification, we calculate the virtual count of maps of degree $d$ from a smooth projective curve of genus $g$ to a hypersurface in a Grassmannian, sending specified points of the curve to special Schubert subvarieties restricted to the hypersurface. We study the question of whether this virtual count is in fact enumerative under suitable conditions on the hypersurface, in the regime when the map degree $d$ is large.

Derived categories of Quot schemes on smooth curves and tautological bundles

We define a categorical action of the shifted quantum loop group of $\mathfrak{sl}_2$ on the derived categories of Quot schemes of finite length quotient sheaves on a smooth projective curve. As an application, we obtain a semi-orthogonal decomposition of the derived categories of Quot schemes, of representation theoretic origin. We use this decomposition to calculate the cohomology of interesting tautological vector bundles over the Quot scheme.

On product identities and the Chow rings of holomorphic symplectic varieties

For a moduli space $M$ of stable sheaves over a $K3$ surface $X$, we propose a series of conjectural identities in the Chow rings $CH_\star (M \times X^\ell),\, \ell \geq 1,$ generalizing the classic Beauville-Voisin identity for a $K3$ surface. We emphasize consequences of the conjecture for the structure of the tautological subring $R_\star (M) \subset CH_\star (M).$ The conjecture places all tautological classes in the lowest piece of a natural filtration emerging on $CH_\star (M)$, which we also discuss. We prove the proposed identities when $M$ is the Hilbert scheme of points on a $K3$ surface.

The cohomology of the Quot scheme on a smooth curve as a Yangian representation

We describe the action of the shifted Yangian of sl_2 on the cohomology groups of the Quot schemes of 0-dimensional quotients on a smooth projective curve. We introduce a commuting family of r operators in the positive half of the Yangian, whose action yields a natural basis of the Quot cohomology. These commuting operators further lead to formulas for the operators of multiplication by the Segre classes of the universal bundle.

On the cohomology of tautological bundles over Quot schemes of curves

We consider tautological bundles and their exterior and symmetric powers on the Quot scheme over the projective line. We prove and conjecture several statements regarding the vanishing of their higher cohomology, and we describe their spaces of global sections via tautological constructions. To this end, we make use of the embedding of the Quot scheme as an explicit local complete intersection in the product of two Grassmannians, studied by Str{\o}mme. This allows us to construct resolutions with vanishing cohomology for the tautological bundles and their exterior and symmetric powers. We further illustrate our approach with a few additional cohomological calculations.

Higher rank Segre integrals over the Hilbert scheme of points

Let S be a nonsingular projective surface. Each vector bundle V on S of rank s induces a tautological vector bundle over the Hilbert scheme of n points of S. When s=1, the top Segre classes of the tautological bundles are given by a recently proven formula conjectured in 1999 by M. Lehn. We calculate here the Segre classes of tautological bundles for all ranks s over all K-trivial surfaces. Furthermore, in rank s=2, the Segre integrals are determined for all surfaces, thus establishing a full analogue of Lehn's formula. We also give conjectural formulas for certain series of Verlinde Euler characteristics over the Hilbert schemes of points.

On the group of zero-cycles of holomorphic symplectic varieties

For a moduli space of Bridgeland-stable objects on a K3 surface, we show that the Chow class of a point is determined by the Chern class of the corresponding object on the surface. This establishes a conjecture of Junliang Shen, Qizheng Yin, and the second author.

The combinatorics of Lehn's conjecture

Let S be a smooth projective surface equipped with a line bundle H. Lehn's conjecture is a formula for the top Segre class of the tautological bundle associated to H on the Hilbert scheme of points of S. Voisin has recently reduced Lehn's conjecture to the vanishing of certain coefficients of special power series. The first result of this short note is a proof of the vanishings required by Voisin by residue calculations (A. Szenes and M. Vergne have independently found the same proof). Our second result is an elementary solution of the parallel question for the top Segre class on the symmetric power of a smooth projective curve C associated to a higher rank vector bundle V on C. Finally, we propose a complete conjecture for the top Segre class on the Hilbert scheme of points of S associated to a higher rank vector bundle on S in the K-trivial case.

The Chern classes of the Verlinde bundles

A formula for the first Chern class of the Verlinde bundle over the moduli space of smooth genus g curves is given. A finite-dimensional argument is presented in rank 2 using geometric symmetries obtained from strange duality, relative Serre duality, and Wirtinger duality together with the projective flatness of the Hitchin connection. A derivation using conformal-block methods is presented in higher rank. An expression for the first Chern class over the compact moduli space of curves is obtained.

Segre classes and Hilbert schemes of points

We prove a closed formula for the integrals of the top Segre classes of tautological bundles over the Hilbert schemes of points of a K3 surface X. We derive relations among the Segre classes via equivariant localization of the virtual fundamental classes of Quot schemes on X. The resulting recursions are then solved explicitly. The formula proves the K-trivial case of a conjecture of M. Lehn from 1999. The relations determining the Segre classes fit into a much wider theory. By localizing the virtual classes of certain relative Quot schemes on surfaces, we obtain new systems of relations among tautological classes on moduli spaces of surfaces and their relative Hilbert schemes of points. For the moduli of K3 sufaces, we produce relations intertwining the kappa classes and the Noether-Lefschetz loci. Conjectures are proposed.

On the strange duality conjecture for abelian surfaces II

In the prequel to this paper, two versions of Le Potier's strange duality conjecture for sheaves over abelian surfaces were studied. A third version is considered here. In the current setup, the isomorphism involves moduli spaces of sheaves with fixed determinant and fixed determinant of the Fourier-Mukai transform on one side, and moduli spaces where both determinants vary, on the other side. We first establish the isomorphism in rank one using the representation theory of Heisenberg groups. For product abelian surfaces, the isomorphism is then shown to hold for sheaves with fiber degree 1 via Fourier-Mukai techniques. By degeneration to product geometries, the duality is obtained generically for a large number of numerical types. Finally, it is shown in great generality that the Verlinde sheaves encoding the variation of the spaces of theta functions are locally free over moduli.

On Verlinde sheaves and strange duality over elliptic Noether-Lefschetz divisors

We extend results on generic strange duality for K3 surfaces by showing that the proposed isomorphism holds over an entire Noether-Lefschetz divisor in the moduli space of quasipolarized K3s. We interpret the statement globally as an isomorphism of sheaves over this divisor, and also describe the global construction over the space of polarized K3s.

On the strange duality conjecture for abelian surfaces

We study Le Potier's strange duality conjecture for moduli spaces of sheaves over generic abelian surfaces. We prove the isomorphism for abelian surfaces which are products of elliptic curves, when the moduli spaces consist of sheaves of equal ranks and fiber degree 1. The birational type of the moduli space of sheaves is also investigated. Generalizations to arbitrary product elliptic surfaces are given.

Generic strange duality for $K3$ surfaces

Strange duality is shown to hold over generic $K3$ surfaces in a large number of cases. The isomorphism for elliptic $K3$ surfaces is established first via Fourier-Mukai techniques. Applications to Brill-Noether theory for sheaves on $K3$s are also obtained. The appendix written by Kota Yoshioka discusses the behavior of the moduli spaces under change of polarization, as needed in the argument.

A tour of theta dualities on moduli spaces of sheaves

The purpose of this paper is twofold. First, we survey known results about theta dualities on moduli spaces of sheaves on curves and surfaces. Secondly, we establish new such dualities in the surface case. Among others, the case of elliptic K3 surfaces is studied in detail; we propose further conjectures which are shown to imply strange duality.
