Random Lozenge Waterfall: Dimensional Collapse of Gibbs Measures

We investigate the asymptotic behavior of the q-Racah probability measure on lozenge tilings of a hexagon whose side lengths scale linearly with a large parameter $L$, while the parameters $q\in(0,1)$ and $κ\in \mathbf{i}\mathbb{R}$ remain fixed. This regime differs fundamentally from the traditional case $q\sim e^{-c/L}\to1$, in which random tilings are locally governed by two-dimensional translation-invariant ergodic Gibbs measures. In the fixed-q regime we uncover a new macroscopic phase, the waterfall (previously only observed experimentally), where the two-dimensional Gibbs structure collapses into a one-dimensional random stepped interface that we call a barcode. We prove a law of large numbers and exponential concentration, showing that the random tilings converge to a deterministic waterfall profile. We further conjecture an explicit correlation kernel of the one-dimensional barcode process arising in the limit. Remarkably, the limit is invariant under shifts by $2\mathbb{Z}$ but not by $\mathbb{Z}$, exhibiting an emergent period-two structure absent from the original weights. Our conjectures are supported by extensive numerical evidence and perfect sampling simulations. The kernel is built from a family of functions orthogonal in both spaces $\ell^{2}(\mathbb{Z})$ and $\ell^{2}(\mathbb{Z}+\frac12)$, that may be of independent interest. Our proofs adapt the spectral projection method of Borodin-Gorin-Rains (arXiv:0905.0679) to the regime with fixed~q. The resulting asymptotic analysis is substantially more involved, and leads to non-self-adjoint operators. We overcome these challenges in the exponential concentration result by a separate argument based on sharp bounds for the ratios of probabilities under the q-Racah orthogonal polynomial ensemble.

Multi-level loop equations for $β$-corners processes

The goal of the paper is to introduce a new set of tools for the study of discrete and continuous $β$-corners processes. In the continuous setting, our work provides a multi-level extension of the loop equations (also called Schwinger-Dyson equations) for $β$-log gases obtained by Borot and Guionnet in (Commun. Math. Phys. 317, 447-483, 2013). In the discrete setting, our work provides a multi-level extension of the loop equations (also called Nekrasov equations) for discrete $β$-ensembles obtained by Borodin, Gorin and Guionnet in (Publications math{\' e}matiques de l'IH{\' E}S 125, 1-78, 2017).

Global asymptotics for $β$-Krawtchouk corners processes via multi-level loop equations

We introduce a two-parameter family of probability distributions, indexed by $β/2 = θ> 0$ and $K \in \mathbb{Z}_{\geq 0}$, that are called $β$-Krawtchouk corners processes. These measures are related to Jack symmetric functions, and can be thought of as integrable discretizations of $β$-corners processes from random matrix theory, or alternatively as non-determinantal measures on lozenge tilings of infinite domains. We show that as $K$ tends to infinity the height function of these models concentrates around an explicit limit shape, and prove that its fluctuations are asymptotically described by a pull-back of the Gaussian free field, which agrees with the one for Wigner matrices. The main tools we use to establish our results are certain multi-level loop equations introduced in our earlier work arXiv:2108.07710.

Stationary measure for the open KPZ equation

We provide the first construction of stationary measures for the open KPZ equation on the spatial interval $[0,1]$ with general inhomogeneous Neumann boundary conditions at $0$ and $1$ depending on real parameters $u$ and $v$, respectively. When $u+v\geq 0$ we uniquely characterize the constructed stationary measures through their multipoint Laplace transform which we prove is given in terms of a stochastic process that we call the continuous dual Hahn process.

The strong Feller property of the open KPZ equation

We prove that the semigroup generated by the open KPZ equation on a bounded spatial interval with Neumann boundary conditions parametrized by real parameters u and v enjoys the strong Feller property. From this we conclude that for u+v>0, min(u,v)>-1 the stationary measure constructed in Corwin and Knizel (arXiv:2103.12253) is the unique stationary measure for the equation. It is expected that the same conclusion holds for all values of u and v.

Asymptotics of discrete $β$-corners processes via two-level discrete loop equations

We introduce and study a class of discrete particle ensembles that naturally arise in connection with classical random matrix ensembles, log-gases and Jack polynomials. Under technical assumptions on a general analytic potential we prove that the global fluctuations of these ensembles are asymptotically Gaussian with a universal covariance that remarkably differs from its counterpart in random matrix theory. Our main tools are certain novel algebraic identities that we have discovered. They play a role of discrete multi-level analogues of loop equations.

Generalizations of TASEP in discrete and continuous inhomogeneous space

We investigate a rich new class of exactly solvable particle systems generalizing the Totally Asymmetric Simple Exclusion Process (TASEP). Our particle systems can be thought of as new exactly solvable examples of tandem queues, directed first- or last-passage percolation models, or Robinson-Schensted-Knuth type systems with random input. One of the novel features of the particle systems is the presence of spatial inhomogeneity which can lead to the formation of traffic jams. For systems with special step-like initial data, we find explicit limit shapes, describe hydrodynamic evolution, and obtain asymptotic fluctuation results which put the systems into the Kardar-Parisi-Zhang universality class. At a critical scaling around a traffic jam in the continuous space TASEP, we observe deformations of the Tracy-Widom distribution and the extended Airy kernel, revealing the finer structure of this novel type of phase transitions. A homogeneous version of a discrete space system we consider is a one-parameter deformation of the geometric last-passage percolation, and we obtain extensions of the limit shape parabola and the corresponding asymptotic fluctuation results. The exact solvability and asymptotic behavior results are powered by a new nontrivial connection to Schur measures and processes.

$q$-Racah ensemble and $q$-P$\left(E_7^{(1)}/A_{1}^{(1)}\right)$ discrete Painlevé equation

The goal of this paper is to investigate the missing part of the story about the relationship between the orthogonal polynomial ensembles and Painlevé equations. Namely, we consider the $q$-Racah polynomial ensemble and show that the one-interval gap probabilities in this case can be expressed through a solution of the discrete $q$-P$\left(E_7^{(1)}/A_{1}^{(1)}\right)$ equation. Our approach also gives a new Lax pair for this equation. This Lax pair has an interesting additional involutive symmetry structure.

Log-gases on a quadratic lattice via discrete loop equations and q-boxed plane partitions

We study a general class of log-gas ensembles on (shifted) quadratic lattices. We prove that the corresponding empirical measures satisfy a law of large numbers and that their global fluctuations are Gaussian with a universal covariance. We apply our general results to analyze the asymptotic behavior of a $q$-boxed plane partition model introduced by Borodin, Gorin and Rains. In particular, we show that the global fluctuations of the height function on a fixed slice are described by a one-dimensional section of a pullback of the two-dimensional Gaussian free field. Our approach is based on a $q$-analogue of the Schwinger-Dyson (or loop) equations, which originate in the work of Nekrasov and his collaborators, and extends the methods developed by Borodin, Gorin and Guionnet to quadratic lattices.

Asymptotics of random domino tilings of rectangular Aztec diamonds

We consider asymtotics of a domino tiling model on a class of domains which we call rectangular Aztec diamonds. We prove the Law of Large Numbers for the corresponding height functions and provide explicit formulas for the limit. For a special class of examples, the explicit parametrization of the frozen boundary is given. It turns out to be an algebraic curve with very special properties. Moreover, we establish the convergence of the fluctuations to the Gaussian Free Field in appropriate coordinates. Our main tool is a recently developed moment method for discrete particle systems.

Moduli spaces of q-connections and gap probabilities

Our goal is to show that the one-interval gap probability for the q-Hahn orthogonal polynomial ensemble can be expressed through a solution of the asymmetric q-Painleve V equation. The case of the q-Hahn ensemble we consider is the most general case of the orthogonal polynomial ensembles that have been studied. Our approach is based on the analysis of q-connections on the Riemann sphere with a particular singularity structure. It requires a new derivation of a q-difference equation of Sakai's hierarchy of type A_{2}^{(1)}. We also calculate its Lax pair.

Algebraic analogue of Atiyah's theorem

In topology there is a theorem of Atiyah, concerning K-theory of classifying space of connected compact Lie group. We consider an algebraic analogue of this theorem. We prove that for a split reductive algebraic group G over a field there is an isomorphism between K-theory of etale classifying space of group G and a completion of the G-equivariant K-theory of the base field.
