A fixed point iteration method for the arctangent with any odd order of convergence based on sine and cosine

In this paper, we present a fixed point method for the arctangent based on sine and cosine. Let $t\in \mathbb{R}^{+}$ and $P\in \mathbb{N}$. We define: \[T\left(x\right)=x-\sum_{k=1}^{P}\,\frac{\left(-1\right)^{k-1}}{2\,k-1} \left(\frac {\sin\!\left(x\right)-t\cos\!\left(x\right)} {\cos\!\left(x\right)+t\sin\!\left(x\right)} \right)^{2\,k-1}.\] For every initial value $x_0$ sufficiently close to $\arctan\left(t\right)$, the sequence \[x_{n+1}=T\left(x_{n}\right)\;;\,n=0,1,\ldots\] is converging to $\arctan\left(t\right)$ with order of convergence exactly $\left(2\,P+1\right)$. The computational test we performed demonstrates the efficiency of the method. A fixed-point iteration method for the number Pi with arbitrary odd order of convergence based on the sine function

In this paper, we present a fixed point method for high-precision computation of number $π$ based on the sine function. Let $P\in \mathbb{N}$. We define the function: \[ S\left(x\right) =x+\sum_{k=1}^{P}\left(\prod_{\ell=1}^{k-1}\frac {2\,\ell-1}{2\,\ell}\right)\frac{\sin\left(x\right)^{2\,k-1}}{2\,k-1}\,. \] For every initial value $x_0$ sufficiently close to $π$, the sequence \[x_{n+1}=x_n+S\left(x_{n}\right)\;;\,n=0,1,\ldots\] is converging to $π$ with order of convergence exactly $\left(2\,P+1\right)$. The computational tests we performed demonstrate the efficiency of the method. A root finding method with arbitrary order of convergence

Let $a\in \mathbb{R}^{+}\backslash\left\{0\right\}$ and $M\in\mathbb{N}$. We consider the equation $t^M-a=0$, which is equivalent to $1-\frac{t^M}{a}=0\,.$ The real solution is $\sqrt[M]{a}$. In this publication, we present a method that enables the calculation of $\sqrt[M]{a}$ with arbitrary order of convergence using only polynomials. We define the fixed point function \[ F\left(x\right) =\prod_{\ell=1}^{P}\left(1+\frac{1}{\ell\cdot M}\right) \int\limits_{0}^{x}\!\left(1-{\frac{{t}^{M}}{a}}\right)^{P}{\rm d}t =\sum\limits_{k=0}^{P}\frac{\left(-1\right)^{\,k}}{a^{\,k}}\cdot\binom{P}{k}\cdot\frac{x^{\,k\,\cdot M+1}}{k\,\cdot M+1} \] This is a polynomial of degree $\left(P\cdot M+1\right)$ with $\left(P+1\right)$ terms. The calculation of $\sqrt[M]{a}$ is thus reduced to a polynomial evaluation. The computational tests we performed demonstrate the efficiency of the method. -- Es sei $a\in \mathbb{R}^{+}\backslash\left\{0\right\}$ und $M\in\mathbb{N}$. Wir definieren die Fixpunktfunktion \[F\left(x\right) =\prod_{\ell=1}^{P}\left(1+\frac{1}{\ell\cdot M}\right) \int\limits_{0}^{x}\!\left(1-{\frac{{t}^{M}}{a}}\right)^{P}{\rm d}t =\sum\limits_{k=0}^{P}\frac{\left(-1\right)^{\,k}}{a^{\,k}}\cdot\binom{P}{k}\cdot\frac{x^{\,k\,\cdot M+1}}{k\,\cdot M+1} \] Das ist ein Polynom vom Grad $\left(P\cdot M+1\right)$ mit $\left(P+1\right)$ Summanden.

Just another method for generating series of even powers of number Pi

In our previous publication we have shown a method for calculating series of even powers of $π$ based on the product representation of the $sinc$ function. We refer the readers to [1] for more details. In this work we apply the method to the product representation of the $cosine$ function and and thereby derive nice series formulas for even powers of the number $π$, such as \[ \frac{1}{2\,!} \left(\fracπ{2}\right)^2 = \sum_{\ell_1=1}^{\infty} \frac{1}{\left(2\,\ell_1-1\right)^2} \;;\quad \frac{1}{4\,!} \left(\fracπ{2}\right)^4 = \sum_{\ell_{2}=2}^{\infty} \left(\sum_{\ell_{1}=1}^{\ell_{2}-1} \frac{1}{ \left(2\,\ell_1-1\right)^2 \cdot \left(2\,\ell_2-1\right)^2} \right)\;; \] \[ \frac{1}{6\,!}\left(\fracπ{2}\right)^6 =\sum_{\ell_{3}=3}^{\infty} \left(\sum_{\ell_{2}=2}^{\ell_{3}-1} \left(\sum_{\ell_{1}=1}^{\ell_{2}-1} \frac{1}{ \left(2\,\ell_1-1\right)^2\cdot \left( 2\,\ell_2-1\right)^2 \cdot \left(2\,\ell_3-1\right)^2} \right)\right) \] Many of these formulas do not seem to be widely known.

Series for even powers of Pi by generalization Euler's method for solving the Basel Problem

The purpose of this paper is to present series expansions for even powers of the number $π$. This is accomplished by generalizing Euler's method for solving the Basel Problem, which was published in 1735. We employ elementary symmetric polynomials, transform them into nested sums, and thereby derive nice series formulas for even powers of the number $π$ such as \[ \frac{π^2}{3!}= \sum_{\ell_1=1}^\infty\frac{1}{\ell_1^2} \;;\quad\quad \frac{π^4}{5!} = \sum_{\ell_2=2}^\infty \sum_{\ell_1=1}^{\ell_2-1} \frac{1}{\ell_1^2\cdot\ell_2^2} \;;\quad\quad \frac{π^6}{7!}= \sum_{\ell_3=3}^\infty \sum_{\ell_2=2}^{\ell_3-1} \sum_{\ell_1=1}^{\ell_2-1}\frac{1}{\ell_1^2\cdot\ell_2^2\cdot\ell_3^2} \;;\quad\cdots \] Many of these formulas do not seem to be widely known.

Just another solution to the Basel Problem

The Basel problem consists in finding the sum of the reciprocals of the squares of the positive integers. It was finally solved in 1735 by Leonhard Euler. In this paper, we propose a simple proof based on the Weierstrass Sine product formula and L'Hôpital's rule.
