Current conservation, screening and the magnetic moment of the $Δ$ resonance. -- 1. Formulation without quark degrees of freedom

The pion-nucleon bremsstrahlung $π+N\Longrightarrowγ'+π'+N'$ is studied in a new form of current conservation. According to this condition, the internal and external particle radiation parts of the $πN$ radiation amplitude have opposite signs, i.e., they contain terms which must cancel each other. Therefore, one has a screening of the internal and external particle radiation in the $πN$ bremsstrahlung. In particular, it is shown that the double $Δ$ exchange diagram with the $Δ-γ' Δ'$ vertex cancel against the appropriate longitudinal part of the external particle radiation diagrams. Consequently, a model independent relation between the magnetic dipole moments of the $Δ^+$ and $Δ^{++}$ resonances and the anomalous magnetic moment of the proton $μ_p$ is obtained, where $μ_Δ$ is expressed by $μ_p$ as $μ_{Δ^+}={{M_Δ}\over {m_p}} μ_p$ and $μ_{Δ^{++}}={3\over 2}μ_{Δ^+}$ in agreement with the values extracted from the fit for the experimental cross section of the $π^+ p\toγ'π^+ p$ reaction.

Current conservation, screening and the magnetic moment of the $Δ$ resonance: 2. Formulation with quark degrees of freedom 3. Magnetic moment of the $Δ^o$ and $Δ^-$ resonances

Our previous paper \cite{MFNEW} is generalized within the field theoretical formulation with the quark degrees of freedom \cite{HW,H,N,Z}, where pions and nucleons are treated as the bound systems of quarks. It is shown that relations generated by current conservation for the on shell $πN$ bremsstrahlung amplitude with composite nucleons and pions have the same form as in the usual quantum field theory \cite{IZ,BD} without quark degrees of freedom \cite{MFNEW}. Consequently, the model independent relations for the magnetic dipole moments of the $Δ^+$ and $Δ^{++}$ resonances in \cite{MFNEW} remain be the same in the quantum field theory with the quark degrees of freedom. These relations are extended for the magnetic dipole moments of the $Δ^o$ and $Δ^-$ resonances which are determined via the anomalous magnetic moment of the neutron $μ_n$ as $μ_{Δ^o}={{M_Δ}\over {m_p}} μ_n$ and $μ_{Δ^{-}}={3\over 2}μ_{Δ^o}$.

Dilepton production in heavy-ion collisions with in-medium spectral functions of vector mesons

The in-medium spectral functions of $ρ$ and $ω$ mesons and the broadening of the nucleon resonances at finite baryon density are calculated self-consistently by combining a resonance dominance model for the vector meson production with an extended vector meson dominance model. The influence of the in-medium modifications of the vector meson properties on the dilepton spectrum in heavy-ion collisions is investigated. The dilepton spectrum is generated for the C+C reaction at 2.0$A$ GeV and compared with recent HADES Collaboration data. The collision dynamics is then described by the Tübingen relativistic quantum molecular dynamics transport model. We find that an iterative calculation of the vector meson spectral functions that takes into account the broadening of the nucleon resonances due to their increased in-medium decay branchings is convergent and provides a reasonable description of the experimental data in the mass region $0.45\leq M \leq 0.75$ GeV. On the other side, the theoretical calculations slightly underestimate the region $m_π\leq M \leq 0.4$ GeV. Popular in-medium scenarios such as a schematic collisional broadening and dropping vector mesons masses are discussed as well.

Molecular structure of the Bs0*(5725) and Bs1(5778) bottom-strange mesons

We discuss a possible interpretation of the scalar Bs0*(5725) and axial Bs1(5778) bottom-strange mesons as hadronic molecules - bound states of B K and B* K mesons, respectively. Using a phenomenological Lagrangian approach we analyze the strong Bs0* to Bs pi0, Bs1 to Bs* pi0 and the radiative Bs0* to Bs* gamma, Bs1 to Bs gamma, Bs1 to Bs* gamma, Bs1 to Bs0* gamma decays. We give predictions for the decay properties: effective couplings and decay widths.

Chiral corrections to the vector and axial couplings of quarks and baryons

We calculate chiral corrections to the semileptonic vector and axial quark coupling constants using a manifestly Lorentz covariant chiral quark approach up to order O(p4) in the two- and tree-flavor picture. These couplings are then used in the evaluation of the corresponding couplings which govern the semileptonic transitions between octet baryon states. In the calculation of baryon matrix elements we use a general ansatz for the spatial form of the quark wave function, without referring to a specific realization of hadronization and confinement of quarks in baryons. Matching the physical amplitudes calculated within our approach to the model-independent predictions of baryon chiral perturbation theory (ChPT) allows one to deduce the connection between our parameters and those of baryon ChPT.

Description of double beta decay within continuum-QRPA

A method to calculate the nuclear double beta decay ($2νββ$- and $0νββ$-) amplitudes within the continuum random phase approximation (cQRPA) is formulated. Calculations of the $ββ$ transition amplitudes within the cQRPA are performed for ^{76}Ge, ^{100}Mo and ^{130}Te. A rather simple nuclear Hamiltonian consisting of phenomenological mean field and zero-range residual particle-hole and particle-particle interaction is used. The calculated M^{2ν} are almost not affected when the single-particle continuum is taken into account. At the same time, a regular suppression of the $0νββ$-amplitude is found that can be associated with additional ground state correlations due to collective states in the continuum. It is expected that future inclusion of the nucleon pairing in the single-particle continuum will somewhat compensate the suppression.

Overconstrained estimates of neutrinoless double beta decay within the QRPA

Estimates of nuclear matrix elements for neutrinoless double beta decay (0nu2beta) based on the quasiparticle random phase approximations (QRPA) are affected by theoretical uncertainties, which can be substantially reduced by fixing the unknown strength parameter g_pp of the residual particle-particle interaction through one experimental constraint - most notably through the two-neutrino double beta decay (2nu2beta) lifetime. However, it has been noted that the g_pp adjustment via 2\nu2βdata may bring QRPA models in disagreement with independent data on electron capture (EC) and single beta decay (beta^-) lifetimes. Actually, in two nuclei of interest for 0nu2beta decay (Mo-100 and Cd-116), for which all such data are available, we show that the disagreement vanishes, provided that the axial vector coupling g_A is treated as a free parameter, with allowance for g_A<1 (``strong quenching''). Three independent lifetime data (2nu2beta, EC, β^-) are then accurately reproduced by means of two free parameters (g_pp, g_A), resulting in an overconstrained parameter space. In addition, the sign of the 2nu2beta matrix element M^2nu is unambiguously selected (M^2nu>0) by the combination of all data. We discuss quantitatively, in each of the two nuclei, these phenomenological constraints and their consequences for QRPA estimates of the 0nu2beta matrix elements and of their uncertainties.

Estimate for the X(3872) to gamma J/psi decay width

The X(3872) resonance is considered as a hadronic molecule, a loosely-bound state of charmed D0 and D*0 mesons, since its mass is very close to the D*0 barD0 threshold. Assuming structure and quantum numbers of X(3872) as (D0 barD*0 - D*0 barD0)/sqrt(2) and J(PC) = 1(++), we calculate the X(3872) to gamma J/psi decay using a phenomenological Lagrangian approach. We also estimate the contribution of an additional c bar(c) component in the X(3872) to this decay width, which is shown to be suppressed relative to the one of the molecular configuration.

Exact relativistic tritium beta-decay endpoint spectrum in a hadron model

We present the relativistic calculation of the beta-decay of tritium in a hadron model. The elementary particle treatment of the transition 3H -> 3He + e^- + nu_e is performed in analogy with the description of the beta-decay of neutron. The effects of higher order terms of hadron current and nuclear recoil are taken into account in this formalism. The relativistic Kurie function is derived and presented in a simple form suitable for the determination of neutrino masses from the shape of the endpoint spectrum. A connection with the commonly used Kurie function is established.

Microscopic models and effective equation of state in nuclear collisions at FAIR energies

Two microscopic models, UrQMD and QGSM, were employed to study the formation of locally equilibrated hot and dense nuclear matter in heavy-ion collisions at energies from 11.6 AGeV to 160 AGeV. Analysis was performed for the fixed central cubic cell of volume V = 125 fm**3 and for the expanding cell which followed the growth of the central area with uniformly distributed energy. To decide whether or not the equilibrium was reached, results of the microscopic calculations were compared to that of the statistical thermal model. Both dynamical models indicate that the state of kinetic, thermal and chemical equilibrium is nearly approached at any bombarding energy after a certain relaxation period. The higher the energy, the shorter the relaxation time. Equation of state has a simple linear dependence P = a(sqrt{s})*e, where a = c_s**2 is the sound velocity squared. It varies from 0.12 \pm 0.01 at E_{lab} = 11.6 AGeV to 0.145 \pm 0.005 at E_{lab} = 160 AGeV. Change of the slope in a(sqrt{s}) behavior occurs at E_{lab} = 40 AGeV and can be assigned to the transition from baryon-rich to meson-dominated matter. The phase diagrams in the T - mu_B plane show the presence of kinks along the lines of constant entropy per baryon. These kinks are linked to the inelastic (i.e. chemical) freeze-out in the system.

Pion dominance in RPV SUSY induced neutrinoless double beta decay

At the quark level there are basically two types of contributions of R-parity violating SUSY (RPV SUSY) to neutrinoless double beta decay: the short-range contribution involving only heavy virtual superpartners and the long-range one with the virtual squark and neutrino. Hadronization of the effective operators, corresponding to these two types of contributions, may in general involve virtual pions in addition to the close on-mass-shell nucleons. It is known that the short-range contribution is dominated by the pion exchange. In the present paper we show that this is also true for the long-range RPV SUSY contribution and, therefore, the RPV SUSY contributes to the neutrinoless double beta decay dominantly via charged pion exchange between the decaying nucleons.

Decays, contact P-wave interactions and hyperfine structure in Omega- exotic atoms

Contact $P$-wave interactions connected to the Larmor interaction of a magnetic dipole and Thomas spin precession in the filed of an electric quadrupole are described and their implications for spectroscopy of exotic $Ω^{-}$-atoms are studied. In order to evaluate the magnitude of the contact $P$-wave interactions as compared to the conventional long-range interactions and the sensitivity of spectroscopic data to the $Ω^{-}$-hyperon quadrupole moment, we consider $2P$ states of $Ω^{-}$ atoms formed with light stable nuclei with spins $I \geq 1/2$ and atomic numbers $Z \leq 10$. The energy level splitting caused by the contact interactions is 2-5 orders of magnitude smaller than the conventional long-range interactions. Strong decay widths of $pΩ^{-}$ atoms due to reactions $pΩ^{-} \to ΛΞ^{0}$ and $pΩ^{-} \to ΣΞ$, induced by $t$-channel kaon exchanges, are calculated. $Ω^{-}$ atoms formed with the light nuclei have strong widths 5-6 orders of magnitude higher than splitting caused by the contact interactions. The low-$L$ pattern in the energy spectra of intermediate- and high-$Z$ $Ω^{-}$ atoms thus cannot be observed. The $Ω^{-}$ quadrupole moment can be measured by observing $X$-rays from circular transitions between high-$L$ levels in $Ω^{-}$ exotic atoms. The effect of strong interactions in $^{208}$Pb$Ω^{-}$ atoms is negligible starting from $L \sim 10$. The contact $P$-wave interactions exist in ordinary atoms and $μ$-meson atoms.

Anatomy of nuclear matrix elements for neutrinoless double-beta decay

We show that, within the Quasiparticle Random Phase Approximation (QRPA) and the renormalized QRPA (RQRPA) based on the Bonn CD nucleon-nucleon interaction, the competition between the pairing and the neutron-proton particle-particle and particle-hole interactions causes contributions to the neutrinoless double-beta decay matrix element to nearly vanish at internucleon distances of more than 2 or 3 fermis. As a result, the matrix element is more sensitive to short-range/high-momentum physics than one naively expects. We analyze various ways of treating that physics and quantify the uncertainty it produces in the matrix elements, with three different treatments of short-range correlations.

D* K molecular structure of the Ds1(2460) meson

We discuss a possible interpretation of the Ds1(2460) meson as a hadronic molecule - a bound state of D* and K mesons. Using a phenomenological Lagrangian approach we determine the strong Ds1 to Ds* pi0 and radiative Ds1 to Ds gamma decays. In order of magnitude our results for the partial strong and radiative decay widths are consistent with previous calculations.

Nuclear and particle physics aspects of the 2nbb-decay of 150Nd

A discussion is given on possible realization of the Single State Dominance (SSD) hypothesis in the case of the two-neutrino double beta decay(2nbb-decay) of 150Nd with 1^- ground state of the intermediate nucleus. We conclude that the SSD hypothesis is expected to be ruled out by precision measurement of differential characteristics of this process in running NEMO 3 or planed SuperNEMO experiments unlike some unknown low-lying 1^+ state of 150Pm does exist. This problem can be solved via (d,2He) charge-exchange experiment on 150Sm. Further, we address the question about possible violation of the Pauli exclusion principle for neutrinos and its consequences for the energy distributions of the 2nbb-decay of 150Nd. This phenomenon might be a subject of interest of NEMO 3 and SuperNEMO experiments as well.

Pseudorapidity shape of elliptic flow as signature for fast equilibration in relativistic heavy-ion collisions at energies up to sqrt(s) = 200 GeV

The implications of parton recombination processes on the dynamics of ultrarelativistic heavy-ion reactions are investigated. To do so, the quark-gluon string transport model has been extended for partonic recombination and fusion processes. Parton recombination leads to short equilibration times and improves significantly on the theoretical description of measured directed and elliptic flow, i.e., v_1 and v_2, distributions in Au+Au collisions at sqrt(s) = 200 GeV, in particular what concerns their pseudorapidity dependence. The shape of v_2(eta) is found to be closely related to fast thermalization.

Role of the rho meson in the description of pion electroproduction experiments at JLab

We study the p(e,e' pi+)n reaction in the framework of an effective Lagrangian approach including nucleon, pi and rho meson degrees of freedom and show the importance of the rho-meson t-pole contribution to sigmaT, the transverse part of cross section. We test two different field representations of the rho meson, vector and tensor, and find that the tensor representation of the rho meson is more reliable in the description of the existing data. In particular, we show that the rho-meson t-pole contribution, including the interference with an effective non-local contact term, sufficiently improves the description of the recent JLab data at invariant mass W less 2.2 GeV and Q2 less 2.5 GeV2/c2. A ``soft'' variant of the strong piNN and rhoNN form factors is also found to be compatible with these data. On the basis of the successful description of both the sigmaL and sigmaT parts of the cross section we discuss the importance of taking into account the sigmaT data when extracting the charge pion form factor Fpi from sigmaL.
