Bright Source of High-Dimensional Temporal Entanglement

High-dimensional entanglement is considered to hold great potential for quantum key distribution (QKD) in high-loss and -noise scenarios. To harness its robustness, we construct a source for high-dimensional time-bin entangled photons optimized for high brightness, low complexity, and long-term stability. We certify the generated high-dimensional entanglement with a new witness employing nested Franson interferometry. Finally, we obtain key rates using a novel, noise-resilient QKD protocol. Our flexible evaluation method, centered around discretizations of the time stream, enables the same dataset to be processed while varying parameters such as state dimensionality and time bin length, allowing optimization of performance under given environmental conditions. Our results indicate regions within the accessible parameter space where high key rates per time are achievable for dimensionalities larger than two.

CyberAId: AI-Driven Cybersecurity for Financial Service Providers

European financial institutions face mounting regulatory pressure while their security operations centres remain constrained not by data or staffing but by reasoning capacity: enterprise SIEMs cover only a fraction of MITRE ATT&CK techniques, two thirds of SOC teams cannot keep pace with alert volumes, and the majority of breaches are preceded by alerts that are generated but never investigated. Frontier large language models now achieve state-of-the-art results on isolated cybersecurity tasks (one-day vulnerability exploitation, code-level patching, intrusion detection) yet no narrow win constitutes a platform that can compose across functions, persist multi-tenant state, map findings to regulatory regimes and survive an audit. This position paper argues that the right unit of construction is a hybrid multi-agent system in which specialised LLM subagents reason over classical SIEM/XDR telemetry rather than replacing it, share accumulated agent state across institutions through privacy-preserving federation, and can connect to complementary capability packs such as quantum-based authentication, digital twins for adversarial validation, and eBPF-based kernel telemetry. We present CyberAId, a model-agnostic, on-premise-deployable platform in which a Main Agent coordination layer, a Reporting capability, and specialist subagents operate within a shared runtime under bounded human-in-the-loop autonomy, organised around four falsifiable design principles, and aligned with relevant regulations. CyberAId will be validated at four representative financial use cases (client impersonation, anti-money-laundering for payment service providers, retail-banking incident response, and high-frequency-trading resilience) and propose skill-based agent adaptation as the most promising research direction for turning each deployment into a contribution to a continuously refined collective defence.

Ultra-long quantum walks via spin-orbit photonics

The possibility of fine-tuning the couplings between optical modes is a key requirement in photonic circuits for quantum simulations. In these architectures, emulating the long-time evolution of particles across large lattices requires sophisticated setups, that are often intrinsically lossy. Here we report ultra-long photonic quantum walks across several hundred optical modes, obtained by propagating a light beam through very few closely-stacked liquid-crystal metasurfaces. By exploiting spin-orbit effects, these implement space-dependent polarization transformations that mix circularly polarized optical modes carrying quantized transverse momentum. As each metasurface implements long-range couplings between distant modes, by using only a few of them we simulate quantum walks up to 320 discrete steps without any optical amplification, far beyond state-of-the-art experiments. To showcase the potential of this method, we experimentally demonstrate that in the long-time limit a quantum walk affected by dynamical disorder generates maximal entanglement between two system partitions. Our platform grants experimental access to large-scale unitary evolutions while keeping optical losses at a minimum, thereby paving the way to massive multi-photon multi-mode quantum simulations.

Ultra-sensitive measurement of transverse displacements with structured light

Accurately measuring mechanical displacements is essential for a vast portion of current technologies. Several optical techniques accomplish this task, allowing for non-contact sensing even below the diffraction limit. Here we introduce an optical encoding technique, dubbed "linear photonic gears", that enables ultra-sensitive measurements of transverse displacements by mapping these into polarization rotations of a laser beam. In ordinary ambient conditions, we measure the relative shift between two objects with a resolution of 400 pm. We argue that a resolution of 50 pm should be achievable with existing state-of-the-art technologies. Our single-optical-path scheme is intrinsically stable and it could be implemented as a compact sensor, using integrated optics. We anticipate it may have a strong impact on both research and industry.

Generation of the Complete Four-dimensional Bell Basis

The Bell basis is a distinctive set of maximally entangled two-particle quantum states that forms the foundation for many quantum protocols such as teleportation, dense coding and entanglement swapping. While the generation, manipulation, and measurement of two-level quantum states is well understood, the same is not true in higher dimensions. Here we present the experimental generation of a complete set of Bell states in a four-dimensional Hilbert space, comprising of 16 orthogonal entangled Bell-like states encoded in the orbital angular momentum of photons. The states are created by the application of generalized high-dimensional Pauli gates on an initial entangled state. Our results pave the way for the application of high-dimensional quantum states in complex quantum protocols such as quantum dense coding.

High-Dimensional Single-Photon Quantum Gates: Concepts and Experiments

Transformations on quantum states form a basic building block of every quantum information system. From photonic polarization to two-level atoms, complete sets of quantum gates for a variety of qubit systems are well known. For multi-level quantum systems beyond qubits, the situation is more challenging. The orbital angular momentum modes of photons comprise one such high-dimensional system for which generation and measurement techniques are well-studied. However, arbitrary transformations for such quantum states are not known. Here we experimentally demonstrate a four-dimensional generalization of the Pauli X-gate and all of its integer powers on single photons carrying orbital angular momentum. Together with the well-known Z-gate, this forms the first complete set of high-dimensional quantum gates implemented experimentally. The concept of the X-gate is based on independent access to quantum states with different parities and can thus be easily generalized to other photonic degrees-of-freedom, as well as to other quantum systems such as ions and superconducting circuits.

The Impact of Photon Entanglement on Local and Nonlocal Dispersion Cancellation

Recently the engineering of the entanglement for photon pairs generated during the spontaneous parametric down conversion process (SPDC) can be achieved via manipulation of pump wavelength behind a \c{hi}(2)-based type II SPDC process [1]. Such effect is used in this paper for demonstration of non-classical dispersion cancellation phenomenon in both local and nonlocal detections, theoretically. The following results are analytically achieved: I) For local detection, if narrow pump laser (highly entangled photons) are used, the dispersive broadening cancelation is directly depends on the degree of entanglement. The higher entanglement degree, the more compensation occurs. The results indicate that by increasing the FWHM of the pump the impact of the entanglement degree is decreased in such a way that for a pump with FWHM=4 nm the entanglement has no effect on the broadening. Therefore, the dispersive broadening is only depends on the temporal walk-off between generated photon pairs and the pump. II) For nonlocal detection, it is also shown that entanglement cancels the dispersive broadening if and only if each of the generated paired photons propagate through dispersive material with identical length with opposite group velocity sign.
