Linear strands of edge ideals of multipartite uniform clutters

We construct the first linear strand of the minimal free resolutions of edge ideals of $d$-partite $d$-uniform clutters. We show that the first linear strand is supported on a relative simplicial complex. In the case that the edge ideals of such clutters have linear resolutions, we give an explicit and surprisingly simple description of their minimal free resolutions, generalizing the known resolutions for edge ideals of Ferrers graphs and hypergraphs and co-letterplace ideals. As an application, we show that the Lyubeznik numbers that appear on the last column of the Lyubeznik table of the cover ideal of such clutters are Betti numbers of certain simplicial complexes. Furthermore, we restate a characterization for edge ideals of $d$-partite $d$-uniform clutters which have linear resolutions based on the recent characterization of arithmetically Cohen-Macaulay sets of points in a multiprojective space.

The ideal of maximal flags of a poset

We study algebraic and homological properties of facet ideals of order complexes of posets which we call ideals of maximal flags of posets or simply flag ideals. We characterize the unmixed and Cohen-Macaulay flag ideals of graded posets. We also give structural results for the multigraded Betti numbers of flag ideals of such posets. The structural results on multigraded Betti numbers of flag ideals are used to characterize the class of flag ideals with linear resolutions.

Resolutions of co-letterplace ideals and generalizations of Bier spheres

We give the resolutions of co-letterplace ideals of posets in a completely explicit, very simple form. This generalizes and simplifies a number of linear resolutions in the literature, among them the Eliahou-Kervaire resolutions of strongly stable ideals generated in a single degree. Our method is based on a general result of K. Yanagawa using the canonical module of a Cohen-Macaulay Stanley-Reisner ring. We discuss in detail how the canonical module may effectively be computed, and from this derive directly the resolutions. A surprising consequence is that we obtain a large class of simplicial spheres comprehensively generalizing Bier spheres.

Cotangent cohomology of quadratic monomial ideals

We study the deformation theory of quotients of polynomial rings by quadratic monomial ideals. More precisely we compute the first cotangent cohomology module of such rings. We also give a criterion for vanishing of second cotangent cohomology module.

Rigid ideals by deforming quadratic letterplace ideals

We compute the deformation space of quadratic letterplace ideals $L(2,P)$ of finite posets $P$ when its Hasse diagram is a rooted tree. These deformations are unobstructed. The deformed family has a polynomial ring as the base ring. The ideal $J(2,P)$ defining the full family of deformations is a rigid ideal and we compute it explicitly. In simple example cases $J(2,P)$ is the ideal of maximal minors of a generic matrix, the Pfaffians of a skew-symmetric matrix, and a ladder determinantal ideal.

Resolutions of letterplace ideals of posets

We investigate resolutions of letterplace ideals of posets. We develop topological results to compute their multigraded Betti numbers, and to give structural results on these Betti numbers. If the poset is a union of no more than $c$ chains, we show that the Betti numbers may be computed from simplicial complexes of no more than $c$ vertices. We also give a recursive procedure to compute the Betti diagrams when the Hasse diagram of $P$ has tree structure.

Homotopy category of N-complexes of projective modules

In this paper, we show that the homotopy category of N-complexes of projective R-modules is triangle equivalent to the homotopy category of projective T_{N-1}(R)- modules where T_{N-1}(R) is the ring of triangular matrices of order N-1 with entries in R. We also define the notions of N-singularity category and N-totally acyclic complexes. We show that the category of N-totally acyclic complexes of finitely generated projective R-modules embeds in the N-singularity category, which is a result analogous to the case of ordinary chain complexes.
