Capacity of the range of random walk on $\mathbb{Z}^4$

We study the scaling limit of the capacity of the range of a simple random walk on the integer lattice in dimension four. We establish a strong law of large numbers and a central limit theorem with a non-gaussian limit. The asymptotic behaviour is analogous to that found by Le Gall in '86 for the volume of the range in dimension two.

Boundary of the Range of Transient Random Walk

We study the boundary of the range of simple random walk on $\mathbb{Z}^d$ in the transient regime $d\ge 3$. We show that volumes of the range and its boundary differ mainly by a martingale. As a consequence, we obtain a bound on the variance of order $n\log n$ in dimension three. We also establish a central limit theorem in dimension four and larger.

Capacity of the range of random walk on $\mathbb{Z}^d$

We study the capacity of the range of a transient simple random walk on $\mathbb{Z}^d$. Our main result is a central limit theorem for the capacity of the range for $d\ge 6$. We present a few open questions in lower dimensions.

Fluctuations for internal DLA on the Comb

We study internal diffusion limited aggregation (DLA) on the two dimensional comb lattice. The comb lattice is a spanning tree of the euclidean lattice, and internal DLA is a random growth model, where simple random walks, starting one at a time at the origin of the comb, stop when reaching the first unoccupied site. An asymptotic shape is suggested by a lower bound of Huss and Sava. We show that fluctuations with respect to this shape are gaussian as in the one-dimensional lattice.

From logarithmic to subdiffusive polynomial fluctuations for internal DLA and related growth models

We consider a cluster growth model on the d-dimensional lattice, called internal diffusion limited aggregation (internal DLA). In this model, random walks start at the origin, one at a time, and stop moving when reaching a site not occupied by previous walks. It is known that the asymptotic shape of the cluster is spherical. When dimension is 2 or more, we prove that fluctuations with respect to a sphere are at most a power of the logarithm of its radius in dimension d larger than or equal to 2. In so doing, we introduce a closely related cluster growth model, that we call the flashing process, whose fluctuations are controlled easily and accurately. This process is coupled to internal DLA to yield the desired bound. Part of our proof adapts the approach of Lawler, Bramson and Griffeath, on another space scale, and uses a sharp estimate (written by Blachère in our Appendix) on the expected time spent by a random walk inside an annulus.

Sublogarithmic fluctuations for internal DLA

We consider internal diffusion limited aggregation in dimension larger than or equal to two. This is a random cluster growth model, where random walks start at the origin of the d-dimensional lattice, one at a time, and stop moving when reaching a site that is not occupied by previous walks. It is known that the asymptotic shape of the cluster is a sphere. When the dimension is two or more, we have shown in a previous paper that the inner (resp., outer) fluctuations of its radius is at most of order $\log(\mathrm{radius})$ [resp., $\log^2(\mathrm{radius})$]. Using the same approach, we improve the upper bound on the inner fluctuation to $\sqrt{\log(\mathrm{radius})}$ when d is larger than or equal to three. The inner fluctuation is then used to obtain a similar upper bound on the outer fluctuation.

A note on the rightmost particle in a Fleming-Viot process

We consider N nearest neighbor random walks on the positive integers with a drift towards the origin. When one walk reaches the origin, it jumps to the position of one of the other N-1 walks, chosen uniformly at random. We show that this particle system is ergodic, and establish some exponential moments of the rightmost position, under the stationary measure.

Fleming-Viot selects the minimal quasi-stationary distribution: The Galton-Watson case

Consider N particles moving independently, each one according to a subcritical continuous-time Galton-Watson process unless it hits 0, at which time it jumps instantaneously to the position of one of the other particles chosen uniformly at random. The resulting dynamics is called Fleming-Viot process. We show that for each N there exists a unique invariant measure for the Fleming-Viot process, and that its stationary empirical distribution converges, as N goes to infinity, to the minimal quasi-stationary distribution of the Galton-Watson process conditioned on non-extinction.

Lower bounds on fluctuations for internal DLA

We consider internal diffusion limited aggregation in dimension larger than or equal to two. This is a random cluster growth model, where random walks start at the origin of the d-dimensional lattice, one at a time, and stop moving when reaching a site that is not occupied by previous walks. When n random walks are sent from the origin, we establish a lower bound for the inner and outer errors fluctuations of order square root of the logarithm of n. When dimension is larger or equal to three, this lower bound matches the upper bound recently obtained in independent works of \cite{AG2} and \cite{JLS2}. Also, we produce as a corollary of our proof of \cite{AG2}, an upper bound for the fluctuation of the inner error in a specified direction.

A note on fluctuations for internal diffusion limited aggregation

We consider a cluster growth model on Z^d, called internal diffusion limited aggregation (internal DLA). In this model, random walks start at the origin, one at a time, and stop moving when reaching a site not occupied by previous walks. It is known that the asymptotic shape of the cluster is spherical. Also, when dimension is 2 or more, and when the cluster has volume $n^d$, it is known that fluctuations of the radius are at most of order $n^{1/3}$. We improve this estimate to $n^{1/(d+1)}$, in dimension 3 or more. In so doing, we introduce a closely related cluster growth model, that we call the flashing process, whose fluctuations are controlled easily and accurately. This process is coupled to internal DLA to yield the desired bound. Part of our proof adapts the approach of Lawler, Bramson and Griffeath, on another space scale, and uses a sharp estimate (written by Blachere in our Appendix) on the expected time spent by a random walk inside an annulus.

Annealed upper tails for the energy of a polymer

We study the upper tails for the energy of a randomly charged symmetric and transient random walk. We assume that only charges on the same site interact pairwise. We consider annealed estimates, that is when we average over both randomness, in dimension three or more. We obtain a large deviation principle, and an explicit rate function for a large class of charge distributions.

Annealed lower tails for the energy of a polymer

We consider the energy of a randomly charged polymer. We assume that only charges on the same site interact pairwise. We study the lower tails of the energy, when averaged over both randomness, in dimension three or more. As a corollary, we obtain the correct temperature-scale for the Gibbs measure.

Quasi-stationary distributions and Fleming-Viot processes in finite spaces

Consider a continuous time Markov chain with rates Q in the state space Λ\cup\{0\} with 0 as an absorbing state. In the associated Fleming-Viot process N particles evolve independently in Λwith rates Q until one of them attempts to jump to the absorbing state 0. At this moment the particle comes back to Λinstantaneously, by jumping to one of the positions of the other particles, chosen uniformly at random. When Λis finite, we show that the empirical distribution of the particles at a fixed time converges as N\to\infty to the distribution of a single particle at the same time conditioned on non absorption. Furthermore, the empirical profile of the unique invariant measure for the Fleming-Viot process with N particles converges as N\to\infty to the unique quasi-stationary distribution of the one-particle motion. A key element of the approach is to show that the two-particle correlations is of order 1/N.

Shape transition under excess self-intersections for transient random walk

We reveal a shape transition for a transient simple random walk forced to realize an excess $q$-norm of the local times, as the parameter $q$ crosses the value $q_c(d)=\frac{d}{d-2}$. Also, as an application of our approach, we establish a central limit theorem for the $q$-norm of the local times in dimension 4 or more.

On large intersection and self-intersection local times in dimension five or more

We show a remarkable similarity between strategies to realize a large intersection or self-intersection local times in dimension five or more. This leads to the same rate functional for large deviation principles for the two objects obtained respectively by Chen and Morters, and by the present author. We also present a new estimate for the distribution of high level sets for a random walk, with application to the geometry of the intersection set of two high level sets of the local times of two independent random walks.

Hitting times for independent random walks on $\mathbb{Z}^d$

We consider a system of asymmetric independent random walks on $\mathbb{Z}^d$, denoted by $\{η_t,t\in{\mathbb{R}}\}$, stationary under the product Poisson measure $ν_ρ$ of marginal density $ρ>0$. We fix a pattern $\mathcal{A}$, an increasing local event, and denote by $τ$ the hitting time of $\mathcal{A}$. By using a loss network representation of our system, at small density, we obtain a coupling between the laws of $η_t$ conditioned on $\{τ>t\}$ for all times $t$. When $d\ge3$, this provides bounds on the rate of convergence of the law of $η_t$ conditioned on $\{τ>t\}$ toward its limiting probability measure as $t$ tends to infinity. We also treat the case where the initial measure is close to $ν_ρ$ without being product.

Large deviations estimates for self-intersection local times for simple random walk in $\Z^3$

We obtain large deviations estimates for the self-intersection local times for a symmetric random walk in dimension 3. Also, we show that the main contribution to making the self-intersection large, in a time period of length $n$, comes from sites visited less than some power of $\log(n)$. This is opposite to the situation in dimensions larger or equal to 5. Finally, we present two applications of our estimates: (i) to moderate deviations estimates for the range of a random walk, and (ii) to moderate deviations for random walk in random sceneries.
