On the Hilbert coefficients, depth of associated graded rings and reduction numbers

Let $(R,\mathfrak{m})$ be a $d$-dimensional Cohen-Macaulay local ring, $I$ an $\mathfrak{m}$-primary ideal of $R$ and $J=(x_1,...,x_d)$ a minimal reduction of $I$. We show that if $J_{d-1}=(x_1,...,x_{d-1})$ and $\sum\limits_{n=1}^\inftyλ{({I^{n+1}\cap J_{d-1}})/({J{I^n} \cap J_{d-1}})=i}$ where i=0,1, then depth $G(I)\geq{d-i-1}$. Moreover, we prove that if $e_2(I) = \sum_{n=2}^\infty (n-1) λ(I^n/JI^{n-1})-2;$ or if $I$ is integrally closed and $e_2(I) = \sum_{n=2}^\infty (n-1)λ({I^{n}}/JI^{n-1})-i$ where $i=3,4$, then $e_1(I) = \sum_{n=1}^\infty λ(I^n / JI^{n-1})-1.$ In addition, we show that $r(I)$ is independent. Furthermore, we study the independence of $r(I)$ with some other conditions.

The saturation number of powers of graded ideals

Let $S=K[x_1,\ldots,x_n]$ be the polynomial ring in $n$ variables over a field $K$ with maximal ideal $\frak{m}=(x_1,...,x_n)$, and let $I$ be a graded ideal of $S$. In this paper, we define the saturation number $\sat(I)$ of $I$ to be the smallest non-negative integer $k$ such that $I:\mm^{k+1}= I:\mm^k$. We show that $f(k)$ is linearly bounded, and that $f(k)$ is a quasi-linear function for $k\gg 0$, if $I$ is a monomial ideal. Furthermore, we show that $\sat(I^k)=k$ if $I$ is a principal Borel ideal and prove that $\sat(I_{d,n}^k) =\max\{l\:\; (kd-l)/(k-l) \leq n\},$ where $I_{d,n}$ is the squarefree Veronese ideal generated in degree $d$. \end{abstract}

Unmixedness and arithmetic properties of matroidal ideals

Let $R=k[x_1,...,x_n]$ be the polynomial ring in $n$ variables over a field $k$ and $I$ be a matroidal ideal of degree $d$. In this paper, we study the unmixedness properties and the arithmetical rank of $I$. Moreover, we show that $ara(I)=n-d+1$. This answer to the conjecture that made by H. J. Chiang-Hsieh \cite[Conjecture]{C}.

A note on linear resolution and polymatroidal ideals

Let $R=K[x_1,...,x_n]$ be the polynomial ring in $n$ variables over a field $K$ and $I$ be a monomial ideal generated in degree $d$. Bandari and Herzog conjectured that a monomial ideal $I$ is polymatroidal if and only if all its monomial localizations have a linear resolution. In this paper we give an affirmative answer to the conjecture in the following cases: $(i)$ ${\rm height}(I)=n-1$; $(ii)$ $I$ contains at least $n-3$ pure powers of the variables $x_1^d,...,x_{n-3}^d$; $(iii)$ $I$ is a monomial ideal in at most four variables.

Results on the Hilbert coefficients and reduction numbers

Let $(R,\frak{m})$ be a $d$-dimensional Cohen-Macaulay local ring, $I$ an $\frak{m}$-primary ideal and $J$ a minimal reduction of $I$. In this paper we study the independence of reduction ideals and the behavior of the higher Hilbert coefficients. In addition, we give some examples in this regards.

On stability properties of powers of polymatroidal ideals

Let $R=K[x_1,...,x_n]$ be the polynomial ring in $n$ variables over a field $K$ with the maximal ideal $\frak{m}=(x_1,...,x_n)$. Let $\astab(I)$ and $\dstab(I)$ be the smallest integer $n$ for which $\Ass(I^n)$ and $\depth(I^n)$ stabilize, respectively. In this paper we show that $\astab(I)=\dstab(I)$ in the following cases: \begin{itemize} \item[(i)] $I$ is a matroidal ideal and $n\leq 5$. \item[(ii)] $I$ is a polymatroidal ideal, $n=4$ and $\frak{m}\notin\Ass^{\infty}(I)$, where $\Ass^{\infty}(I)$ is the stable set of associated prime ideals of $I$. \item[(iii)] $I$ is a polymatroidal ideal of degree $2$. \end{itemize} Moreover, we give an example of a polymatroidal ideal for which $\astab(I)\neq\dstab(I)$. This is a counterexample to the conjecture of Herzog and Qureshi, according to which these two numbers are the same for polymatroidal ideals.

Stability properties of powers of ideals over regular local rings of small dimension

Let $(R,\mathfrak{m})$ be a regular local ring or a polynomial ring over a field, and let $I$ be an ideal of $R$ which we assume to be graded if $R$ is a polynomial ring. Let astab$(I)$ resp. $\overline{\rm astab}(I)$ be the smallest integer $n$ for which Ass$(I^n)$ resp. Ass$(\overline{I^n})$ stabilize, and dstab$(I)$ be the smallest integer $n$ for which depth$(I^n)$ stabilizes. Here $\overline{I^n}$ denotes the integral closure of $I^n$. We show that astab$(I)=\overline{\rm astab}(I)={\rm dstab}(I)$ if dim$\,R\leq 2$, while already in dimension $3$, astab$(I)$ and $\overline{\rm astab}(I)$ may differ by any amount. Moreover, we show that if dim$\,R=4$, then there exist ideals $I$ and $J$ such that for any positive integer $c$ one has ${\rm astab}(I)-{\rm dstab}(I)\geq c$ and ${\rm dstab}(J)-{\rm astab}(J)\geq c$.

On the first generalized Hilbert coefficient and depth of associated graded rings

Let $(R,\mathfrak{m})$ be a $d$-dimensional Cohen-Macaulay local ring with infinite residue field. Let $I$ be an ideal of $R$ that has analytic spread $\ell(I)=d$, satisfies the $G_d$ condition, the weak Artin-Nagata property $AN_{d-2}^-$ and depth$(R/I)\geq\min\lbrace 1,\dim R/I \rbrace$. In this paper, we show that if $j_1(I) = λ(I/J) +λ[R/(J_{d-1} :_{R} I+(J_{d-2} :_{R}I+I) :_R, \mathfrak{m}^\infty)]+1$, then depth$(G(I))\geq d -1$ and $r_J(I)\leq 2$, where $J$ is a general minimal reduction of $I$. In addition, we extend the result by Sally who has studied the depth of associated graded rings and minimal reductions for an $,\mathfrak{m}$-primary ideals.

Ratliff-Rush ideal and reduction numbers

Let $(R,m)$ be a Cohen-Macaulay local ring of positive dimension $d$ and infinite residue field. Let $I$ be an m-primary ideal and $J$ a minimal reduction of $I$. In this paper, we show that $\widetilde{r_J(I)}\leq r_J(I)$. This answer to a question that made by M.E. Rossi and I. Swanson in [\ref{Rs}, Question 4.6].

On the computation of the Ratliff-Rush closure, associated graded ring and invariance of a length

Let $(R,\fm)$ be a Cohen-Macaulay local ring of positive dimension $d$ and infinite residue field. Let $I$ be an $\fm$-primary ideal of $R$ and $J$ be a minimal reduction of $I$. In this paper we show that if $\widetilde{I^k}=I^k$ and $J\cap I^n=JI^{n-1}$ for all $n\geq k+2$, then $\widetilde{I^n}=I^n$ for all $n\geq k$. As a consequence, we can deduce that if $r_J(I)=2$, then $\widetilde{I}=I$ if and only if $\widetilde{I^n}=I^n$ for all $n\geq 1$. Moreover, we recover some main results [\ref{Cpv}] and [\ref{G}]. Finally, we give a counter example for question 3 of [\ref{P1}].

On the $h$-vectors of the powers of graded ideals

Let $S=K[x_1,\ldots,x_n]$ be the polynomial ring over the field $K$, and let $I\subset S$ be a graded ideal. It is shown that for $k \gg0$ the postulation number of $I^k$ is bounded by a linear function of $k$, and it is a linear function of $k$, if $I$ is generated in a single degree. By using the relationship of the $h$-vector with the higher iterated Hilbert coefficients of $I^k$ it is shown that the Hilbert coefficients $e_i(I^k)$ of $I^k$ are polynomials for $k \gg 0$, whenever $I$ is generated in a single degree.

Relative Hilbert co-efficients

Let $(A,\m)$ be a \CM \ local ring of dimension $d$ and let $I \subseteq J$ be two $\m$-primary ideals with $I$ a reduction of $J$. For $i = 0,\ldots,d$ let $e_i^J(A)$ ($e_i^I(A)$) be the $i^{th}$ Hilbert coefficient of $J$ ($I$) respectively. We call the number $c_i(I,J) = e_i^J(A) - e_i^I(A)$ the $i^{th}$ relative Hilbert coefficient of $J$ \wrt \ $I$. If $G_I(A)$ is \CM \ then $c_i(I,J)$ satisfy various constraints. We also show that vanishing of some $c_i(I,J)$ has strong implications on $\depth G_{J^n}(A)$ for $n \gg 0$.

Some results on local cohomology modules

Let $R$ be a commutative Noetherian ring, $\fa$ an ideal of $R$, and let $M$ be a finitely generated $R$-module. For a non-negative integer $t$, we prove that $H_{\fa}^t(M)$ is $\fa$-cofinite whenever $H_{\fa}^t(M)$ is Artinian and $H_{\fa}^i(M)$ is $\fa$-cofinite for all $i<t$. This result, in particular, characterizes the $\fa$-cofiniteness property of local cohomology modules of certain regular local rings. Also, we show that for a local ring $(R,\fm)$, $f-\depth(\fa,M)$ is the least integer $i$ such that $H_{\fa}^i(M)\ncong H_{\fm}^i(M)$. This result in conjunction with the first one, yields some interesting consequences. Finally, we extend the non- vanishing Grothendieck's Theorem to $\fa$-cofinite modules.

Some properties of generalized local cohomology modules

Let $R$ be a commutative Noetherian ring, $\fa$ an ideal of $R$, $M$ and $N$ be two finitely generated $R$-modules. Let $t$ be a positive integer. We prove that if $R$ is local with maximal ideal $\fm$ and $ M\otimes_R N$ is of finite length then $H_{\fm}^t(M,N)$ is of finite length for all $t\geq 0$ and $l_R(H_{\fm}^t (M,N))\leq \sum_{i=0}^t l_R(\Ext_R^i(M,H_{\fm}^{t-i}(N)))$. This yields, $l_R(H_{\fm}^t(M,N))=l_R(\Ext_R^t(M,N))$. Additionally, we show that $\Ext_R^i(R/{\fa},N)$ is Artinian for all $ i\leq t$ if and only if $H_{\fa}^i(M,N)$ is Artinian for all $i\leq t$. Moreover, we show that whenever $\dim (R/{\fa})=0$ then $H_{\fa}^t(M,N)$ is Artinian for all $t \geq 0$.

On the associated primes of generalized local cohomology modules

Let $\fa$ be an ideal of a commutative Noetherian ring $R$ with identity and let $M$ and $N$ be two finitely generated $R$-modules. Let $t$ be a positive integer. It is shown that $\Ass_R(H_{\fa}^t(M,N))$ is contained in the union of the sets $\Ass_R(\Ext_R^i(M,H_{\fa}^{t-i}(N)))$, where $0\leq i\leq t$. As an immediate consequence, it follows that if either $H_{\fa}^i(N)$ is finitely generated for all $i<t$ or $\Supp_R(H_{\fa}^i(N))$ is finite for all $i<t$, then $\Ass_R(H_{\fa}^t(M,N))$ is finite. Also, we prove that if $d=\pd(M)$ and $n=\dim(N)$ are finite, then $H_{\fa}^{d+n}(M,N)$ is Artinian. In particular, $\Ass_R(H_{\fa}^{d+n}(M,N))$ is a finite set consisting of maximal ideals.

Associated primes of local cohomology modules of weakly Laskerian modules

The notion of weakly Laskerian modules was introduced recently by the authors. Let $R$ be a commutative Noetherian ring with identity, $\fa$ an ideal of $R$, and $M$ a weakly Laskerian module. It is shown that if $\fa$ is principal, then the set of associated primes of the local cohomology module $H_{\fa}^i(M)$ is finite for all $i\geq 0$. We also prove that when $R$ is local, then $\Ass_R(H_{\fa}^i(M))$ is finite for all $i\geq 0$ in the following cases: (1) $\dim R\leq 3$, (2) $\dim R/\fa\leq 1$, (3) $M$ is Cohen-Macaulay and for any ideal $\fb$, with $l=\grade(\fb,M)$, $\Hom_R(R/\fb,H_{\fb}^{l+1}(M))$ is weakly Laskerian.

Associated primes of local cohomology module

Let $\fa$ be an ideal of a commutative Noetherian ring $R$ and $M$ a finitely generated $R$-module. Let $t$ be a natural integer. It is shown that there is a finite subset $X$ of $\Spec R$, such that $\Ass_R(H_{\fa}^t(M))$ is contained in $X$ union with the union of the sets $\Ass_R(\Ext_R^j(R/\fa,H_{\fa}^i(M)))$, where $0\leq i<t$ and $0\leq j\leq t^2+1$. As an immediate consequence, we deduce that the first non $\fa$-cofinite local cohomology module of $M$ with respect to $\fa$ has only finitely many associated prime ideals.

A new characterization of commutative Artinian rings

Let $R$ be a commutative Noetherian ring. It is shown that $R$ is Artinian if and only if every $R$-module is good, if and only if every $R$-module is representable. As a result, it follows that every nonzero submodule of any representable $R$-module is representable if and only if $R$ is Artinian. This provides an answer to a question which is investigated in [{\bf 1}].
