Multi-UAV Path Following using Vector-Field Guidance

This paper presents a decentralized, collision-free framework for path following guidance of multiple uncrewed aerial vehicles (UAVs), while maintaining uniform spacing along a reference path. A vector field-based guidance law is employed to drive each UAV toward the reference path. A rotational repulsion mechanism, utilizing relative distance and bearing between UAVs, is proposed to avoid collisions during convergence to the path, and an inter-UAV spacing error-based velocity control law is presented to achieve uniform separation along the path. Analytical guarantees are established for collision avoidance and convergence of the inter-UAV spacing errors to zero, ensuring uniform separation along the path. Numerical simulations demonstrate the efficacy of the proposed method.

Geometric Look-Angle Shaping Strategy for Enclosed Inspection

This paper introduces inspection through GLASS, a Geometric Look-Angle Shaping Strategy for enclosed regions using unmanned aerial vehicles. In doing so, the vehicles guidance command is constructed through a bounded, geometry-consistent shaping of the look angle relative to a desired standoff path. By embedding a smooth, hyperbolic-tangent-type shaping function within a polar geometric framework, GLASS ensures global existence of the guidance dynamics. It avoids the far-field limitations inherent to conventional formulations. Lyapunov stability analysis establishes asymptotic convergence to a prescribed inspection standoff under explicit curvature feasibility conditions, along with analytical settling-time characteristics. The proposed strategy incorporates maximum turn-rate constraints without inducing singularities throughout the workspace. High-fidelity six-degree-of-freedom quadrotor simulations demonstrate the effectiveness of GLASS in representative enclosed inspection scenarios, highlighting a practically viable guidance framework for autonomous enclosed inspection missions.

Prescribed-Performance-Aware Hybrid-Gain-Based Robust Controller

This paper proposes a prescribed performance function aware hybrid gain finite time sliding mode control framework for a class of nonlinear systems subject to matched disturbances. The hybrid gain structure ensures bounded control effort while retaining finite time convergence, and the incorporation of PPFs enables explicit enforcement of transient performance requirements. Theoretical guarantees are first established for first order systems, characterizing finite time convergence, disturbance rejection, and residual bounds. The approach is then extended to second order dynamics, where a sliding manifold is designed using PPF constraints to facilitate controlled shaping of position and velocity transients. Simulation studies illustrate the proposed design under matched peak control conditions. Comparative results for second-order systems demonstrate that, while a well tuned non-PPF hybrid gain controller achieves competitive tracking performance, the PPF-aware formulation strictly enforces prescribed transient constraints and yields consistent reductions of approximately 9 to 12 percent in integral error and control energy metrics without increasing peak actuation effort.

Variable L0 Guidance Strategy: Enlarged Operational Envelope and Path-Following

This paper presents a geometric and theoretical study of an exponentially varying look-ahead parameter for UAV path-following guidance. Conventional guidance laws with a fixed look-ahead distance often drive the vehicle into turn-rate saturation when the heading or cross-track error is large, leading to constrained maneuvers and higher control effort. The proposed variable L0 strategy reshapes the look-ahead profile so that the guidance command adapts to the evolving tracking error geometry. A detailed investigation shows that this adaptation significantly enlarges the region in which the commanded turn rate remains unsaturated, allowing the vehicle to operate smoothly over a broader range of error conditions. For representative settings, the unsaturated operational envelope increases by more than 70% relative to the constant L0 formulation. These geometric insights translate to smoother trajectories, earlier recovery from saturation, and reduced control demand. Simulation studies on straight-line and elliptical paths demonstrate the merits of the variable look-ahead strategy, highlighting its control-efficient and reliable path-following performance.

Bifurcation-Based Guidance Law for Powered Descent Landing

This paper develops a new guidance law for powered descent landing of a rocket-powered vehicle. The proposed law derives the acceleration command for a point mass model of the vehicle by expressing velocity as a dynamical system undergoing supercritical transcritical bifurcation with three bifurcation parameters. The parameters are designed such that the stable equilibrium points of the velocity dynamics correspond to the guided targeting state, that is, the landing point. Numerical simulations are performed to demonstrate the working of the proposed guidance law.

Robust Control Design Using a Hybrid-Gain Finite-Time Sliding-Mode Controller

This paper proposes a hybrid-gain finite-time sliding-mode control (HG-FTSMC) strategy for a class of perturbed nonlinear systems. The controller combines a finite-time reaching law that drives the sliding variable to a predefined boundary layer with an inner mixed-power or exponential law that guarantees rapid convergence within the layer while maintaining smooth and bounded control action. The resulting control design achieves finite-time convergence and robustness to matched disturbances, while explicitly limits the control effort. The control framework is first analyzed on a perturbed first-order integrator model, and then extended to Euler-Lagrange (EL) systems, representing a broad class of robotic and mechanical systems. Comparative simulations demonstrate that the proposed controller achieves settling times comparable to recent finite-time approaches [1], while substantially reducing the control effort. Finally, trajectory-tracking simulations on a two-link manipulator further validate the robustness and practical feasibility of the proposed HG-FTSMC approach.
